This is about a real psychology study where the psychologists set up a camp, wanting to study the them vs us mentality, by assigning the boys into two groups. This video approximates the results from the first two studies. During the third study the counselors did a better job of not getting caught, and successfully created a rivalry between the two groups; they hated each other. After that, the counselors created scenarios for those same kids to bond (bus fake broke down, kids work together to fix), and soon the kids were all friends. Dustin and I both read about this in “the opposite of hate”. The book also talks about how the study relates to today: how governments encourage people to fall into us v them mentality, and we fall right into it. Hopefully we can be like the kids in this video, identify that we are all one and stop the us v them mentality from spreading.

Seems like in your book, and in the video "the us vs them" didn't change at all. Instead it's more like no more "us versus them" at least for now, let's join together and become a bigger us and take on a different them. It's not much of a sermon if nothing changes fundamentally. Just my opinion. You could correct me if Im wrong but then that would just be devisive as well. Life is full of adversity, there's always an us if people agree, and not everyone can all agree which creates a them. I see no solution to the issue here....

I think in this case, it's powerful governments and institutions that have become so corrupt by power and greed, that they do more harm than good to society, and should be abolished or drastically changed to serve humanity's best interests. It's not the same 'us vs them' as whites and blacks, jews and muslims, republicans and democrats, etc. It's an entire population vs a small group of powerful individuals who have power to control them.

Love that. You can get a cassette aux btw. Its a casette tape but when you put it in there is a cord that comes out of it that plugs into just about any standard smartphone. I know that casette struggle so i feel that.

How the hell do I always end up tearing up and feeling like i'm running out of breath every time I hear a Thrice song?? Dustin and the guys pour so much emotion into every single song. It literally feels like piece by piece each of their songs repair a little broken part of the world. As one we achieve little to nothing, but together we can brighten the future enough to make a difference. Yet again these guys managed to inspire and spark something inside of me. A very familiar feeling after years of supporting and listening to Thrice. PLEASE never stop doing this guys... You will never be able to comprehend how much your work has and continues to touch people.

There was a social experiment done in the 50s called the Robbers Cave Experiment and it was done at a kids summer camp where they were split the children into two groups to see how they competed for the prizes in games. They became very competitive and it soon became a “them” vs “us” situation. I love when they do their research before their music videos.
CelestialCells I was wondering if this would be in the comments anywhere. If I recall correctly, even though the two sides were selected randomly, the boy of opposing sides would describe the entire other group in negative terms. In other words, the boys made up negative attributes about the other side simply because they weren’t in their group.
Also reminds me of the Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes experiment done in the 60s by Jane Elliott:

Thank you so much for still being a phenomenal experience to listen to Thrice. I grew up on you in highschool jamming paper tigers, silhouette and artist in the ambulance. Now I have a 8 month old son who can grow up with this great music.
It truly breaks my heart I could not make it to their concert in Dallas. I have to say Thrice is the only band that I listen to that every song on every album is amazing to listen to. I cant play an instrument to save my life but listening to their music over the years having such powerful cord progressions and meaningful lyrics is so inspiring and motivating while going through life! An amazing contribution to society and showing what it means not to live a dichotomous life. A balance of God, Family and Music.

5 months ago my grandpa died from cancer, he served in the military and gained command seartent major level. The night I went to his funeral service to give him my last kiss I heard and saw the video for this song and haven’t stopped listening to it since......this shit speaks louder than anything on tv you hear or what the media depicts as reality but it’s right here I front of US !

Bring me the Horizon should be opening for Thrice. Thrice is one of the most influential hardcore/punk/metal/post hardcore/heavy music in general. The fact that they have reinvented themselves beyond their punk years and continue to put out stellar music speaks to the talent of the band.

But, not that I diss them exactly, I like them too.
