I attended Loara High School 1989-1992. We always competed against Poway in the Open Class, but Poway was the force to be reconned with. Simply amazing shows. All these years later, I still think about them. 😊
@@bbarber1974 I am assuming a lot of it was due sheer large number of members and associated support from the boosters and admin. During those times, one of my favorite high school band was Colton, which impressed me despite not being from an affluent area.
@@bbarber1974 I certainly didn’t mean to discount the amount of practice and dedication to supports to keep such “Legendary “ high school Band, but the large number of members, props, and technical gadgets (I recall special speakers) was something to behold. It was like a college band competing against high schools.
As an Orange Glen drummer back in '78-'81 Poway was always the biggest rival. We did take 1st place for Field Percussion back in '79 at Mission Viejo and think it was with only 7 guys. Poway had like 9 guys in their snare-line alone. Go OGHS but God bless The Emerald Brigade.
I was in this show; Tom was never in band fyi. It was CRAZY being in this band. Super high attention to detail, if you sucked you knew real quick! If you look close we have alternates along the back. Something like 400 members at that point. So many life lessons during those years. LIterally 70 flutes, 45 trumpets. They're down to like 50 people or something these days :(. - Trumpet section leader '92-'93.
@@bruinsalum97 Current sax section leader here, yeah, its gotten pretty small. Total of 70 students, only 8 flutes, 12 trumpets. Gone are the glory days for Poway, but thankfully we have some new directors who are interested in expanding the band and getting us back on top. I'm looking forward to the following years, It'll get better eventually!
High camera view is best

@@radidoc4832I understand Poway practiced a LOT too. Nights and weekends in addition to zero period.

Too bad not every child nor school has such an opportunity like this for music education.

What happened to Poway now? Rancho Bernado is now the best band and Poway is not even in the same division?
