We played it for the first time my freshman year and we loved it so much that we picked it for our graduation performance my senior year. I was first chair flute so I got the solo towards the end. My band director was a huge James Swearingen fan, so we played a lot of his stuff, but this was our favorite.
This was my senior song in high school. This and Light Eternal where my to favorite pieces to play, as a trombonist the heavy low brass is just amazing, it send shivers and memories up my spine every time I listen. James Swearingen is one of my favorite composers and I've never disliked or turned down any of his scores. They are beautiful.
Played this back in 8th grade. It was fun to be the 1st chair clarinet. Back when 2 line C was a "high note". Now the crap I play now is only in altissimo.
Played Bass Clarinet for this as a senior in high school. Liked it so much, I used it as one of my conducting test pieces during my first year of college.
I am doing trombone 2 for this in lgpe this year in hs band That was my freshman year and I cried when the slow part came in because I remembered my ex that loved this peice and I just played on knowing the light was coming this peice right here was the peice that saved my freshman year I'm a graduate now and I still love this piece
One thing that I love about this song is when it gets to 3:04 and the audience thinks that its over but nope we're only getting started! =) Beautiful piece though ~ I love it when our band plays it. Sends shivers up my spine

heh we're lerning this piece with the towns orchestra this year.i must say it's easyer for me than the phantom of the opera was last year XD there are just a few parts i have to play a few times to learn them but the rest isn't that hard :) but it's still a beautiful piece.
Playing trumpet for this in our spring concert, 1st Trumpet, 1st Chair. I'll admit that it's not the most challenging piece I've ever played, but it has its moments.

Personally, I’ve never played this piece, and probably won’t for another two years. My high school symphonic band needed a tuba, so me, a trombone player in the wind ensemble (auditioned based) sacrificed an elective period to play tuba. I needed to practice, so I used this piece that the upper class men were using for their concert. (I was a freshman.)
This piece was commissioned to celebrate the life of my high school band director, Milton Shank. Its first performance was by my high school band in 1994.
Played this in band when I was in high school, now hearing it for the first time in nearly four years, just as magical as when I played it!
Yael Feder it was my senior song in high school and it is just pure beauty listening to it. My favorite piece of music I've ever played.
We played it for the first time my freshman year and we loved it so much that we picked it for our graduation performance my senior year. I was first chair flute so I got the solo towards the end.
