  • There are many reasons for this problem; relays, fuel pump, voltage, bad battery, alternatetor, etc. In my case the ECM did not send a code for me to pin point the issue. So we had to dig in and got lucky...for now.

Aloha Lobster, Mahalo, for your vid. My 2004 Ford Expedition 5.4l Eddie Bauer solution was so simple that I forgot about it. There is a "Fuel Reset button in the back where I just pressed it and the truck just started strong. Before that fuel button reset, I did the starting fluid in the throttle body, the truck started but shut off. I pressed the fuel rail pressure nipple, there wasn't any fuel spilling everywhere. I also did the turn the ignition to on position and heard no whine of the fuel pump. To my conclusion was that the fuel pump needed to be replaced even after I replaced it 3 years ago that cost $1,600.00. Hopefully the fuel reset is the problem, I had that corner bumper hit another vehicle and we kept slamming the liftgate shut all the time. So the sensor could be sensitive LOL. Mahalo and Aloha for your vid.

Great video and info. I have the same vehicle was wondering. Did your wife or you happen to notice the guages when the truck stalled? Mine is shutting off, conpletely with all dash lights coning on and then the speedometer and tach go from 0 to max, as if glitching. And if I put it in neutral or park, it starts back up again. Almost as if the battery was disconnected momentarily and then reconnected.

No the mention of the gauges was never brought up however there wasn't issue with the battery at a later time which I changed out with a doorman connector

@@Lobster619 Appreciate the reply. It's a great vehicle. I purchased it new and have replaced the fuel pump relay ($8.00 fix) when it burned up, the trans pan and intake manifold gaskets, oil filter mount gasket, waterpump, radiator. Mechanically inclined, however, I'm embarrassed to report that yesterday I discovered the nut under the + battery post terminal securing the fusable link had worked itself free, so it was bouncing, triggering that full reboot effect. Never overlook the simple things. Lol
