Hi Mary! The type I used is called Bottochino. I know there are several other types...as long as they are tumbled marble, you are good. You may have to go through the boxes a bit to pull out ones that aren't too "hole-y". HTH! Catherine
Thanks for the video! Got a question - have you ever tried stamping on a smooth, ceramic type tile? If so, would there be any special treatment to keep the image intact?
I LOVE this idea! I'm relatively new to stamping and I feel like a sponge...absorbing all the ideas and techniques I can. I can't wait to try this... I think I found some Christmas gift ideas! ;)
Love the coaster idea..The tiles I found at Lowe's had a lot holes and would not stamp well because of the imperfections...What brand of tile are you using?...Thanks Mary
I'm so glad you enjoyed the projects! This video is 9 years old, so I'm sure most of the stamps aren't available any longer. Any archival ink will work for this idea! Good luck!
Catherine! I just tried this (literally, like 3 minutes ago), and was wondering where you get your tiles, or if you know the particular brand name? The ones I found at Home Depot have holes in the top, and therefore don't pick up the ink/stamp at all. I was wondering if it was just the certain brand I picked up, or if you sand yours down. Thanks!
Can you use Travertine tile (like from Home Depot)? If so, does it have to be a smoothe finish, or can it be holey (I bought the holey kind, but not too holey)? Also, do you have to seal it? Thank you.
This is a great tutorial... and I enjoyed it very much... Can I give you a "Tip"? You're lighting from below... Filmmakers use this technique to show ominous feelings... People (feel) more comfortable when "Light" comes from Natural source... like the Sun or the Moon light hence, (from above ) more of an angelic feeling... Light coming from below, is usually unnatural... it IS used as a "key" light with 2 other lights, (usually from each side of the person.... Just a thought... "Thank YOU" for sharing this great tutorial... ;)
You are welcome! If you click the link below the video you can see more details on my blog. Basically, you need StazOn ink and any fun stamps will do! You need tumbled tiles. Hope that helps!
hi catherine!!!!! i was just searching for a clip of this show (the chew - tile stamping), and your video came up --- i'm diane -- the woman that was on with clinton!!!!!!!!!! so excited to see this! hmmm --- i wonder if i still have any connections ;) we could both go and show clinton some fun stamped stuff! just wanted to leave a comment and say hi ---
+Diane G GURL! I about had to peel myself off the ceiling when I saw this project! LOVE it and I've been making these for years. THANK YOU for stopping by...We NEED to get on The Chew and show Clinton some new crafty project ;)
Depends on the ink you use and the type of tile...make sure it's a permanent ink. If the tile is slick, you'll probably have to seal them. Hope that helps!

I know this video is kind of old but what stamps are you using? I love the monograming and doily...and the leaf filigree stamps too.
Super tutorial.....a question ..how do you clean your stamps after using stazon
I love that you left the imperfect stamp as is for us to see. I have had several turn out like that and just said hey were suppose to be like that.
I'm excited about trying these for the holidays!

Hi do you need to varnish or resin the tiles? And can this also be done on smooth ceramic tiles? Thanks so much!
Is there an alternative to Stazon? Maybe, Versafine?
Also, can you use the 4x4 shiny white tiles? Thank you 💕
Hi There! I wipe the tiles off with a damp cloth, then let them dry before stamping.
You are welcome!

What a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
Ok, our Lpwe's and Home Depot no longer carry tumbled tiles. :( Any ideas on where else you can get them? thx!
That's a good question that I don't know the answer to! sorry!

Thank you, Judi! This video is 5 years old and I'm not sure why I used lighting like that! I don't usually...interesting thoughts, thanks for sharing!
really like this idea. I am going to have to make a trip to Home Depot. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks you for this video. Could you share your stamp details & also will this technique work on all types of tiles?

I tried the link, but it didn't work.
Can you use this technique on gloss tiles?
Can you use the color markers to add some color? Would there be a need to fire them in an oven for any other technique?
Thanks for the video!!
If you use Sharpie markers, you can add color. Waterbased markers won't work. Thanks!
nice job, so easy
HI, Can you tell me where you got the doily stamp from? So pretty, am excited to try this. :)
+sass000 it's an old Stampin' Up set...pretty sure it's retired. SOrry! There are tons of stamps on the market, though, that would be great for this!
sooo super cute!!! thanks so much for the idea!!!! Cheers

:) i was so excited to run across your video! :) i love this project!
Does the ink smear or where off when a hot beverage is put on it? You are not sealing over the top of the stamp, correct?
Depends on the ink you use and the type of tile...make sure it's a permanent ink. If the tile is slick, you'll probably have to seal them. Hope that helps!
I would love to SEE you on the "Chew" ... "You Go Girl!!!"
Will the ink smear or smudge in use? I want tile coasters that are absorbent so I don't really want to seal them with anything.
In case anyone is wondering, I made these and have used several times with out smudging or smearing. Once the ink is set, it is good to go!
Love new things, thanks for the tip!
i love it its intresting thanks for this video
Once stamp is on can you add a cost or two of modge podge?
I'm pretty sure Mod Podge is water based, so when your coaster gets wet, it will ruin it.
You can try a clear acrylic sealer. Hope that helps!
Hi can you use the shiny ceramic tile also
If you do, you will need to seal them with a spray sealant.
Thank you for responding :)
I'll picking them up today I really want to try these
I'm sorry one more? how many coats of sealant should I do
NewlyNatural Tee I'm not exactly sure! It may say on the can.
