I know that single transition with the switch that expanded the room is more creative then anything thats in the final game. What a waste that they scraped that.
This preview is the whole reason I got a 3DS. I saw this and avoided all spoilers and announcements until its release. You can imagine how confused and disappointed I was when I'm an hour into sticker star after dropping hundreds to play it.
Wow, footage once thought to be lost is real? Ok this is a surreal moment. The footage looks good, makes me wonder if this was the game we ended up getting Sticker Star probably isn't hated as much as it is
Nah. It will definitely still get hated (to a slightly lesser extent) because the battle system and the gameplay, and the battle system are still similar to the final version.
I think the Chain Chomp partner really clues us in on the design of this prototype: In the first three games a partner's primary purpose is to serve an overworld function, like hitting switches from a far or destroying walls. They're designed with this in mind being function over form (How they act determines how they look). From the gameplay it seems like the Chain Chomp is meant to be a sort of replacement to Kooper/Koops/Thoreau However in Sticker Star and Color Splash much of the early puzzle solving would be replaced by action sequences and the Paperize/Cutout abilities making partners overall useless The second thing to note is that the Chain Chomp never follows Mario around on the overworld from behind like a traditional partner. We only see it once in the overworld when it's using it's ability, paired with the fact that we can see the sticker based gameplay this early on it's likely possible that the partners were their own Stickers/Paperize (similar to enemy cards in Color Splash) in this early gameplay concept before being cut entirely as they got replaced by those two things.
We can't really speak on the gameplay because we can't play it, but on a visual level this is definitely better than the final release. I'm baffled that they would scrap the card castle and colorful cave areas, as well as dropping the unique mole king in favor of the same enemy you fought twenty times but scaled up.
Yeah, the worlds have a lot more identity to them. I am fine with the developers making the game look more like paper, but the whole NSMB-ifying of the worlds was a travesty.
They didn't have the budget for unique NPCs. Maybe someday someone will release a video about it but the advice Miyamoto gave was save costs. Obviously they won't bring that up in a Nintendo interview but IS was nearly bankrupt with all the remaining budget going to Awaking.
@@MegabombGamer-rb5kh Consistency. As neat as that Mole boss is, they went with pre-existing designs to save cost and at that point anything unique would stick out. I'm not defending it but a lot of people don't know this was a budget game with a lot of pressure to get it out the door. I'd also wager these assists where made for the sake of this trailer.
@@Oh-Ben A bankruptcy is quite serious. We could have faced the AlphaDream effect, resulting in no new Paper Mario for almost a decade. It's surprising that Intelligent Systems has managed to survive for so long. 😅
Which doesn't sound right, because this build still uses the final game's sticker battle system, its art style is based on the original Paper Mario on N64 and the only partner is a regular Chain Chomp.
I really enjoy the vibe this version of the game gives off. In fact, it reminds me a lot of the first game on the N64, albeit with modern elements here and there, like the question mark blocks being clearly NSMB-styled. Would've been cool to experience the full version of whatever this game was.
Seeing still screenshots of this trailer is one thing, but I never thought I see this trailer in all of its glory. Glad that this trailer was actually found :)
Paper Mario was one of my very first video games ever. I was 5... Now just yesterday was my 18th birthday... This might be the best birthday gift ever... Thank you thank you THANK YOU !!
Kinda crazy the original footage of the beta of the game's gone lost & unpreserved until now. And it's the highest quality it could be. Godspeed reviving this piece of Paper Mario history, man. Even if the bulk of the game would've remained the same, this version of Sticker Star looks loads better.
What's interesting here is that they had the sticker mechanic this early. You can clearly see a hammer sticker being used at 0:36 meaning Mario had probably no standard attacks at that point too.
I mean. there are currently some modders that are trying for idk how many months doing big and small tweaks to the game based on feedback and actually reimagining it like a proper good installment... so i guess there is this to be hyped for. cause i definetly am !

Look, I still think the game today is a mixed bag, some good and bad things. But I’m so disappointed we didn’t get this. At least the music in the game is enjoyable.
I don’t think a single person in this comment section seems to grasp that the chain chomp being generic could’ve very well been a placeholder before they scrapped partners entirely
What do you mean? Why would they need a “placeholder” before they scrapped partners? They could just not show them off during the preview to get the message across that the game won’t have them anymore. The chain chomp partner being generic doesn’t imply that they were gonna not have partners at all in the final game
The chain chomp literally behaves like a regular chain chomp, though? I doubt they'd actually decorate it, especially since it's the one partner shown in the trailer. They probably thought that Mario carrying a pet dog around wouldn't make sense, especially when the next few entries come out, and partners would clash with rhe sticker theme and they didn't yet have a solution (TOK's solution was pretty bad) therefore they got rid of the idea of having partners.
@@ProjectionProjects2.7182 it probably would've felt more Alive plus the more charming look of the game could've drawn more fans into it since the environments are similar to PM64 I know it isn't likely that this could've saved or even fixed paper mario sticker star but it definitely makes it more memorable, the idea of filling your chain chomp dog around is funny
It looks like a pre-alpha Sticker Star to me. The stickers are still prominent in this trailer, and the “partner” doesn’t behave like they did in 64 or TTYD. Sorry, but this trailer doesn’t look any different from Sticker Star to me
@@CosmicTornado1 It actually looks quite different... at least ascetically speaking. The game seemed like it was going to at least have more interesting areas to see like that one card room or that weird pink cave, then just the generic areas seen in NSMB like we have in the final game.

Oh god, i remember downloading an mp3 of this trailers audio to my 3ds so could listen to it over and over, sfx and all. Any official recording was too blurry or cut off. Thank you so much for this! I can finally visualize what i listened to so much as a kid haha
Holy cow I can't believe this is real, this is awesome! How was this found my god! The most notable thing about it to me is just how similar it is to Sticker Star. Yeah you have the partner, but other then that it's using stickers for attacks, placing stickers in overworld, similar aesthetic to final product, typical Mario enemies. Has me wonder if Miyamoto really changed that much about Sticker Star, or if this video is from after his involvement or something. Very interesting all the same!
His involvement probably was more around stuff like the overworld design and visual style, because tbh, those did get improved in the final build believe it or not, the levels are no longer hallways like in TTYD, which is a genuine complain that game had, and still does, and the visuals of the final build while I'm personally more fond of this more classic style, I gotta admit they give the game a far stronger identity than this more classic one does, something I can say was the right call, because a hecking lot of people outside the community do love that modern Paper Mario looks papery as heck like that. So that was probably the goal behind those suggested changes, to make this game its own thing like Intelligent System wanted, rather than trying to copy what was already there at surface level, for the better (and worse) And from this early showcase I can see more clearly why Miyamoto found the final build boring, outside things like the visuals and more verticality and depth to the overworld, the game at its core is still the same thing he was presented before, the same flawed thing, so of course he was not gonna be amused, they didn't add much else! x,d Soooo, from those "mandates", it now seems waaay more likely he just embraced the fact Intelligent System wanted to do a different take to the Paper Mario series from the beginning, and his suggestions were so they could accomplish that goal they set themselves to do from the start, which falls very in line with how they handled the development of later modern Paper Mario games, and also how Miyamoto handled stuff like DK64's development, like how rather than telling Rare to axe the concept of Kongs shooting with guns cuz "mandates", he just told them to adapt them to something more in line with DK's world, and even suggested them a redesign because he was on board with the idea, which lead to the birth to the coconut gun and the peanut popguns, which are waaay more iconic and fun than the generic guns Rare wanted DK and Diddy to use
Little did anyone know that this game would begin a division of the Paper mario fans. When it comes to the actual trailer, the original game looks more creative, the enemies, and the environment are more creative compared to the final game. There's also a chain comp partner that exists, which is neat. But besides the creativity and the chain comp partner, it's still Sticker Star. It's a more creative and better Sticker Star, but it's still Sticker Star.
This is exactly how I feel. Even if we got this version, just about every complaint we have now would've been present, minus the creativity issue (maybe).
i mean, the sanitization IS the main reason i dislike Sticker Star, if it wasn't sanitized and felt like a story in the same continuity as the first 3 games I would not mind the experimental mechanics. A good story is motivation enough to move through a game like this to me.
How full of hope we all had for this frickin' game. I was excited for the game Because Super Paper Mario was my first ever videogame with storytelling in it with memorable characters. And seeing promo stuff for Sticker Star made me generally excited for the game... And the disaster that the final product was is a can of worms I can't describe without beating a dead horse.
I remember watching this several times in 2010 - but could only specifically remember the chain chomp ally and the room of giant playing cards. It's wild that without much attention, the sticker mechanic was shown (albeit without any explanation) in the initial trailer, which then became one of the defining characteristics of the series for the next decade.
God, i love the environments here. They look so vibrant and colorful. The Card Castle level in particular I'm very sad we never got to see in the final.
As someone who actually saw this trailer when it came out, my disappointment with the final product is bigger than Kirby"s stomach. I know, wrong franchise, but still.
The most we ever got from this were screenshots in magazines like Nintendo Power. I've been waiting for someone to maybe dump a ROM one day (if that exists), but the original trailer is just as good. Great find!
Wow.. just wow... i didn't think it would ever be found... this was such a treat to watch, and it really shows just how early in development the game was at the time! Thank you for preserving this wonderful game!
Aside from the visuals looking cool, I don't think that there is much of a difference between what this was going for in the gameplay and what Sticker Star went for with the gameplay. The Chain Chomp or any other partners might have been there to make battles less of a pain in the arse and maybe there might have been a Level Up system with the audience at the bottom of the screen, but aside from that, the problems with selecting the enemies on the field look like that they were still there, and the stickers were still consumable one-use weapons from the looks of things.
I won't lie: some of this stuff like the extra detail in level design and other things like the partners were cool. I get why we didn't get most of this as well. Either way, this game was a part of my childhood, and I'll defend it's worth in that regard to the end.
The people who say this still looks lifeless don't get it. Its not going for TTYD or Supers style, its basing off Paper Mario 64 art style for enviroments with a few TTYD assests. Its nowhere more clear than the Battle stage haveing that 64 style pop up stage as opposed to TTYDs stageplay version.
I never thought I'd live to see this be posted online. For years we've only seen pictures of this trailer and now that clear footage is publicly available, while yes the gameplay is relatively similar to what we got in the end product, looks LEAGUES BETTER in comparison imo.
I didn't even know this existsed but The fact that I'm kinda nostalgic for Sticker Stars even though I never liked it that much makes me hope this was the version that we got, I would've had a great time with it
I’ve been hoping this trailer would pop up! I remember being so hyped for this game and always talking about the card house level in this trailer and the chain chomp party member. The only video of it I remember seeing was some shakey camera footage of this years ago. I can say I’m not a fan of how Sticker Star turned out when it was first released but I do kind of look back on that time more fondly now. Simpler time. Thanks for posting this ❤
Looks like the sticker mechanics was planned from the very start...but they ditched everything else including the CHAIN CHOMP PARTNER! I will forever be MAD!
And it looks like the old combat doesn't exist in even the early version of Sticker Star. (The gameplay and the battle system are similar to the final game.)
“and then mario came out of my 3ds and stole all of the spaghetti in my house and i got very sad but mario said the fuck word and jumped out of the window”
I can’t believe we have it after all this time, granted getting a playable version would be legitimately amazing. The public never got that, this was all we got, so this might genuinely be all we’ll ever get unless it’s officially released. And seeing as this trailer was never officially released by Nintendo, and it’s a trailer, the likely hood of us getting a playable demo is tiny. To everyone who managed to recover this, you lot are legends!
I remember seeing stills from this trailer in Nintendo Power and wondering why we never got the full thing. Holy shit I feel old now. Thank you so much for posting this
Thank you SO MUCH for archiving this. 2010, huh? They threw out EVERYTHING just 2 years before release... I feel like explains a lot... I'm guessing they had to... they lost a bunch of employees, even the series director in the middle of development... they might not have been able to continue with what they had... Trying to read other people's computer code is like learning how to speak another language.
This trailer was just a proof of concept. IS was near bankruptcy due to the past 3 Fire Emblem games failing to meet sales. This is why Sticker Star turned out the way it was. The Paper Mario team was working on an original IP and had to scrap it and make a quick and dirty Paper Mario because IS needed money.
There's an alternate universe out there where Sticker Star continued down this direction and became a quality, beloved game that inspired a continuing legacy of amazing Paper Mario games. God, I wish I lived in that universe
This looks so much better than the final product. It looks like stickers would have been special moves mainly and regular attacks didnt need it. The partner looked fun and like it could have been used really well for puzzles or battle and really it seems all around like we would have actually had a potential to have fun with this one.
This is the game that I honestly would've wanted from the paper Mario series instead of the final product. However you found it, Thank you. Nintendo cannot afford to hide this concept game of Paper Mario BESIDES sticker forever.
Funny enough, we end up fighting a Chain Chomp alongside Bowser during the first phase of the Final Boss. Could it be that same one getting revenge for not being a partner? It even frowns at you while attacking… 🤔💀
That could probably be him. I guess. (Though I feel like they re-worked the chain chomp partner that never saw the light of day in (early) sticker star into the professor’s chain chomp. Princess seen in color splash)
I think people are stretching a tiny bit when they say this looks so much better than the final game when it's just a few snippets of gameplay and mostly walking, but I think visually it looks much better than sticker star, and having the partners in battle plus overworld abilities would've been great, though it's hard to say whether this would've actually been better or still just meh like Sticker Star is.
the battle system for one id say is much better, atleast assuming the blue backgriund stickers that are very basic attacks (like the hammer) were infinitely reusable stickers (which would mean you dont need the consumable stickers to fight) so thats already way better becaude youd have something to do other than running while in a battle with no special stickers, the overworld ambients kinda remind me of 64, which outside of tok is the paper mario with best overworld imo, and i really like the color choices they made (seriously, the colors for the overworld environments are SO GOOD!!!) and it seems that to complement the fact you have basic reusable attacks now, stickers were a more scarce resource unlike now whwre you blink once in the game and wuh oh! your book is filled with a trillion useless stickers and koopas are back to their old designs. now, i dont mind any of the new redesigns for the enemies (except for pokeys they look so weirdly soulless in modern pm) but modern pm koopas look like theyre constantly trying to hold in laughter. but this is way more of a nitpick if anything
I literally saved the old screenshots of this trailer on my phone several months ago. It's very surreal to not only see them in motion, but in *HIGH QUALITY* as well. Also, this version of "Warm, Fuzzy Plains" sounds amazing.

This preview is the whole reason I got a 3DS. I saw this and avoided all spoilers and announcements until its release. You can imagine how confused and disappointed I was when I'm an hour into sticker star after dropping hundreds to play it.
F
That’s sad
Wow, footage once thought to be lost is real? Ok this is a surreal moment. The footage looks good, makes me wonder if this was the game we ended up getting Sticker Star probably isn't hated as much as it is
Nah. It will definitely still get hated (to a slightly lesser extent) because the battle system and the gameplay, and the battle system are still similar to the final version.
@ahmedhasan4966Exactly. People only praise this beta because it looks like it has concepts of TTYD.
I think the Chain Chomp partner really clues us in on the design of this prototype:
In the first three games a partner's primary purpose is to serve an overworld function, like hitting switches from a far or destroying walls. They're designed with this in mind being function over form (How they act determines how they look).
From the gameplay it seems like the Chain Chomp is meant to be a sort of replacement to Kooper/Koops/Thoreau
However in Sticker Star and Color Splash much of the early puzzle solving would be replaced by action sequences and the Paperize/Cutout abilities making partners overall useless
The second thing to note is that the Chain Chomp never follows Mario around on the overworld from behind like a traditional partner.
@@Oh-Ben if that's the case then why scrap perfectly good assets?
@@MegabombGamer-rb5kh Consistency. As neat as that Mole boss is, they went with pre-existing designs to save cost and at that point anything unique would stick out. I'm not defending it but a lot of people don't know this was a budget game with a lot of pressure to get it out the door. I'd also wager these assists where made for the sake of this trailer.
@@Oh-Ben A bankruptcy is quite serious. We could have faced the AlphaDream effect, resulting in no new Paper Mario for almost a decade. It's surprising that Intelligent Systems has managed to survive for so long. 😅
Oh boy what a nice trailer, I'm sure this game will be perfectly well-received :)
And then Miyamoto said: It’S tOo MuCh LiKe TtYd
ITWASN"TANYTHINGLIKETTYDINTHEFIRSTPLACE!
@Tail_Beagle then he jumped over the table and threw a fit at the sight of a purple Monty Mole with a crown and beard
And surely this game wouldn't start the division of the Paper mario fans.
It's like the Al Bundy of paper Mario, you either love it or hate it
"It is Just a Copy of TTYD" the sentence which Changed everything.
Which doesn't sound right, because this build still uses the final game's sticker battle system, its art style is based on the original Paper Mario on N64 and the only partner is a regular Chain Chomp.
@@lol-ih1tl Other partners were in the works, plus the Chain Chomp got a collar slightly later in development.
More like "our last 3 Fire Emblem games have almost bankrupted us" which changed everything.
@Oh-Ben true, Paper Mario fans forget that the franchise is developed by Intelligent Systems.
a relic of a more hopeful time
Man,i miss 2000 and i didn't even exist back then.
@gan0nz0ra Yes, indeed. But we're in good times now at least, with ttyd's remake we have hope for new paper mario games that we'll love.
>2010
Man I miss that year so much, before the rise of smartphones and mobile gaming…
Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be 15 years old in 2025 btw
@@DeltaBlazinmhm!!! ❤
@@gan0nz0ralet's hope that when that new paper mario game comes around, that chain chomp party member and other ideas will return, lol
0:27 looks like Spinies could go on the ceiling, like how Buzzy Beetles could in 64/TTYD.
Good catch.
1:02 I knew I wasn't misremembering this Whomp scene over a decade ago
RIP Chain Chomp, we never got the chance to know you.
Paper Mario was one of my very first video games ever. I was 5...
Now just yesterday was my 18th birthday... This might be the best birthday gift ever... Thank you thank you THANK YOU !!
Happy birthday
this is bittersweet
finally we can see what could have been, but unfortunately we can also see what could have been
ITS NO LONGER A IMAGINATION OF WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IN MY MIND YAY
What a wonderful present just before semester break! Thank you so much Nova!
Kinda crazy the original footage of the beta of the game's gone lost & unpreserved until now. And it's the highest quality it could be. Godspeed reviving this piece of Paper Mario history, man. Even if the bulk of the game would've remained the same, this version of Sticker Star looks loads better.
Whoa! This is an incredible find! I'm guessing this was found alongside some other 3DS tech demo units
we were robbed
What's interesting here is that they had the sticker mechanic this early.
You can clearly see a hammer sticker being used at 0:36 meaning Mario had probably no standard attacks at that point too.
Orrr the Hammer would've been reusable. Look at the difference between it and the Badge sticker.
@asra-5180 You know, I kinda wish they made it so standard attacks are reusable while only special attacks are onetime use
Looking at this trailer actually makes me hyped for the game... if only there was something to be hyped for
That's such a raw line
I mean. there are currently some modders that are trying for idk how many months doing big and small tweaks to the game based on feedback and actually reimagining it like a proper good installment... so i guess there is this to be hyped for. cause i definetly am !
I'm praying for a 3DS Nintendo data server leak so we all can play this lost beta build.
@@WantBadtimeWhen I look at this trailer, It's just a more creative Sticker Star. However It's still Sticker Star. (The gameplay and the battle system are similar to the final game.)
True
It's really real I can't believe it!!!
When you realize the problem with battling was there right from the beginning.
Sticker what...?
This is the Real Paper Mario 4.
Nah. Besides the creativity and the chain comp partner, it's still Sticker Star. It's a more creative and better Sticker Star, but it's still Sticker Star. (The gameplay and the battle system are similar to the final game.)
How? What? This year seriously is SO surreal, getting a new M&L, a TTYD remake AND THIS is crazy. What in the world.
Same with all these maps they showed (which by this point, still were much more interesting than what we got in the final game)
Yep
Having a generic partner would have been better then the non existent partners we got in the final product.
It hurts..
Hey Scott
Indeed. Looks like it would have been a better game (Even if slightly).
@@ProjectionProjects2.7182 it probably would've felt more Alive plus the more charming look of the game could've drawn more fans into it since the environments are similar to PM64
I know it isn't likely that this could've saved or even fixed paper mario sticker star but it definitely makes it more memorable, the idea of filling your chain chomp dog around is funny
@Seedy2 Yeah I agree with you on that one. Such a shame that the devs did not continue down this route but instead scraped all of this.
this is the best christmas gift I could've imagined
thank you everyone who managed to find this.
I can’t believe they scrapped this for the sticker star we got, this looks amazing.
It looks like a pre-alpha Sticker Star to me. The stickers are still prominent in this trailer, and the “partner” doesn’t behave like they did in 64 or TTYD. Sorry, but this trailer doesn’t look any different from Sticker Star to me
@@CosmicTornado1 Settle down.
It certainly looks better, not peak but better. Then again PSS is not a high bar to clear lol.
@@CosmicTornado1 It actually looks quite different... at least ascetically speaking. The game seemed like it was going to at least have more interesting areas to see like that one card room or that weird pink cave, then just the generic areas seen in NSMB like we have in the final game.
@@CosmicTornado1 mario never defended take a guess on why. It wasn't coded in. So... Guess what else they must've NOT coded in? Exactly! Following Partners! You can see everything looks very unfinished. Even Mario's animations look bad.

Liteterly this is the same thing as the final desgin but with No chain chomp partner and Monty mole stop it

"This looks kinda bad. Make it worse."
So that was probably the goal behind those suggested changes, to make this game its own thing like Intelligent System wanted, rather than trying to copy what was already there at surface level, for the better (and worse)
And from this early showcase I can see more clearly why Miyamoto found the final build boring, outside things like the visuals and more verticality and depth to the overworld, the game at its core is still the same thing he was presented before, the same flawed thing, so of course he was not gonna be amused, they didn't add much else! x,d
Soooo, from those "mandates", it now seems waaay more likely he just embraced the fact Intelligent System wanted to do a different take to the Paper Mario series from the beginning, and his suggestions were so they could accomplish that goal they set themselves to do from the start, which falls very in line with how they handled the development of later modern Paper Mario games, and also how Miyamoto handled stuff like DK64's development, like how rather than telling Rare to axe the concept of Kongs shooting with guns cuz "mandates", he just told them to adapt them to something more in line with DK's world, and even suggested them a redesign because he was on board with the idea, which lead to the birth to the coconut gun and the peanut popguns, which are waaay more iconic and fun than the generic guns Rare wanted DK and Diddy to use
Oh most definitely but it probably wouldn't be as intense, at least we know now that the original Sticker Star wasn't just TTYD on 3DS.
Absolute peak of Paper Mario: Sticker Star history
Makes sense. It was ALL downhill from there.
People don't even know the half of it and blame the wrong things.
This magnitude of wasted potential is on par with a capsized oil tanker.
I'd say it's more on par with a demolished nuclear power plant.
Bro is not leaving 2024 behind without finding post media
My joy is immense and my day is saved, Thank you for posting this coming from a Ttyd fan
More exciting than anything to come out of the Game Awards tonight, ngl.
Sticker Star might have still failed, maybe not, but we were absolutely robbed of what COULD have been with Chompy and the unique characters
I'd rather have this over the Sticker Star we got 😢
Cannot BELIEVE this is real, it feels like a dream
I only WISH we got this version D:
Same!😭
Same here too
Yeah i have a feeling that if we would have gotten this version then the hate for PMSS may have been a bit less, maybe not much but a bit less.
God, i love the environments here. They look so vibrant and colorful. The Card Castle level in particular I'm very sad we never got to see in the final.
I love the look of that pink cave, too.
This is one the pieces of lost media I was hoping was found the most. I really want Slamfest ‘99 to found next.
I’m so glad we found this! Good to see this piece of Paper Mario history finally recovered
I can't believe this was finally found, it looked so good! I am in awe that this is what we could've gotten instead of Sticker Star.
Unreal to have this finally properly archived. Thank you so much for achieving this!
I got CHILLS while watching this, It's crazy this actually finally got found and we got to see what Sticker Star was originally supposed to be.
It's awesome to finally see actual gameplay footage for those beta screenshots from all those years ago!
14 years later and we finally found it. 🔥
Oh, EMILE!
I think there’s something you should see!!!
But it’s so cool this footage was found!
I didn't even know this existsed but
The fact that I'm kinda nostalgic for Sticker Stars even though I never liked it that much makes me hope this was the version that we got, I would've had a great time with it
In an alternate universe this released and it was an underrated classic.
Funny how despite it being more like TTYD in some areas, it mostly feels like its own thing
Dude your mods are so good I thought this was one of them, no joke. Congrats on finding that DS and uploading the clean rip! :DD
Emile,Brent and many more paper mario fans (me) wanted a sticker star like this but with the old combat
And it looks like the old combat doesn't exist in even the early version of Sticker Star. (The gameplay and the battle system are similar to the final game.)
finally getting to see the chain chomp partner attack in battle was so cathartic
That bit where Mario had bloody hyper realistic eyes didn’t quite fit the tone they were going for I think but everything else was very cool!!
“and then mario came out of my 3ds and stole all of the spaghetti in my house and i got very sad but mario said the fuck word and jumped out of the window”
Where does he have bloody hyper realistic eyes? I’m very confused
@@Mario-dx3tkIt's making fun of a Creepypasta trope from the early 2010's

So much potential… 😢
This looks so much better than the final product. It looks like stickers would have been special moves mainly and regular attacks didnt need it. The partner looked fun and like it could have been used really well for puzzles or battle and really it seems all around like we would have actually had a potential to have fun with this one.
1:04 it’s like an early version of the cappy throw from Odyssey
This is the game that I honestly would've wanted from the paper Mario series instead of the final product. However you found it, Thank you. Nintendo cannot afford to hide this concept game of Paper Mario BESIDES sticker forever.
I'm somewhat surprised they were even willing to show this to the public, as so much of it looks so unfinished.
I really hope someone finds and posts this games rom, cuz we really need to preserve it...
Funny enough, we end up fighting a Chain Chomp alongside Bowser during the first phase of the Final Boss.
Could it be that same one getting revenge for not being a partner? It even frowns at you while attacking… 🤔💀
😢 damn….
That could probably be him. I guess. (Though I feel like they re-worked the chain chomp partner that never saw the light of day in (early) sticker star into the professor’s chain chomp. Princess seen in color splash)
I remember hearing about this lost Media a while back, 2024 has not been my year , but it certainly was a good year for lost media
I think people are stretching a tiny bit when they say this looks so much better than the final game when it's just a few snippets of gameplay and mostly walking, but I think visually it looks much better than sticker star, and having the partners in battle plus overworld abilities would've been great, though it's hard to say whether this would've actually been better or still just meh like Sticker Star is.
the battle system for one id say is much better, atleast assuming the blue backgriund stickers that are very basic attacks (like the hammer) were infinitely reusable stickers (which would mean you dont need the consumable stickers to fight) so thats already way better becaude youd have something to do other than running while in a battle with no special stickers, the overworld ambients kinda remind me of 64, which outside of tok is the paper mario with best overworld imo, and i really like the color choices they made (seriously, the colors for the overworld environments are SO GOOD!!!) and it seems that to complement the fact you have basic reusable attacks now, stickers were a more scarce resource unlike now whwre you blink once in the game and wuh oh! your book is filled with a trillion useless stickers
and koopas are back to their old designs. now, i dont mind any of the new redesigns for the enemies (except for pokeys they look so weirdly soulless in modern pm) but modern pm koopas look like theyre constantly trying to hold in laughter. but this is way more of a nitpick if anything
I say that we can't know too much but I personally think that if they kept down this patch, the game would not have been seen as bad
I literally saved the old screenshots of this trailer on my phone several months ago. It's very surreal to not only see them in motion, but in *HIGH QUALITY* as well.
Also, this version of "Warm, Fuzzy Plains" sounds amazing.
