Fun fact: One naming theme for US brothels from the Old Est days until they were banned was the use of the word "horse." Crazy Horse, Wild Horse, Dark Horse, et cetera. "Horse," of course, was a polite stand-in for another word.
He didn't actually fire Tom Hagen or kick him out of the family. He confronted Tom about a job offer, and Tom said he didn't say anything about it because he turned it down. Michael then asked Tom if Tom would go along with what needed to be done, and Tom agreed. Tom then went and talked Frankie into slitting his wrists, promising indirectly that Frankie's family would be taken care of. That was actually the way Tom finally made his bones. Tom may have moved out of the compound, that didn't really seem clear, but there was never a scene in which Michael actually fired Tom or kicked him out or anything like that. Tom Hagen was supposed to be in Part III, but Duval wanted more money that they were willing to pay, so he was written out by saying he had passed away. His wife and son were in the movie though, with the son being a priest who ends up at the Vatican. If Tom had been fired or removed from the family they would've had to do a major retcon to make it work.
34:11 I think that it may be what you said, he not used to the Mafia behavior or it could be this that I just thought of when you said that: He didn’t drop his gun right away because of his training and then years fighting in WW2 where you don’t drop your gun and especially don’t after shooting the enemy. Just another theory. Maybe it says why in the novel.
I've always interpreted the handshake between Hagan and Frankie at the prison to be where Frankie gets the razor he uses... I could be wrong, but the prolonged handshake always seemed to have more subtext and a deeper meaning, than just "good bye old friend" or "You know what you have to do"
Also at the time Pacino still hadn't won a academy award like Duvall had. I'm kind of glad though cause he went on to do one of my favorite underated movies Days of Thunder
I think showing Michael die is better because for me the end of coda is the same ending as 2. Also I liked the flashback of him dancing with Kay, Apollonia & Mary. The other subtle part I miss is Michael's full baring of his soul to don tomissinos dead body. Coda cuts parts of that out. I prefer theatrical slightly more but I did like coda cutting Sophia's parts & I love the glasses kill being shown the way it was meant to be.
I find myself constantly debating which film I like better part 1 or 2. As a Long Islander the first is so nostalgic to me granted I only been to Long Beach once and it was back in high school; my friend used to play hockey out there and wanted to show me his locker room because it was sick. Part 2 tho I think is a better story overall.
I think Michael's inevitable acceptance into the family was a bit more than him simply not wanting to be the one to be the godfather. I think he knew that if he had taken over, he'd be too good at it and that he was. He had already willingly fought in WW2, The thought of killing isn't what had distressed him from accepting his father's legacy but rather being too good at being in power. He had already seen what men in power could do when he was at war. I believe the reason he went to war was to show his family that being in the mafia wasn't the only way to live and that life could be different for all of them. They'd have the freedom to be whatever their hearts desired rather than puppets of power and influence. However they were too lost in tradition and drunk with the results of power themselves. I also believe Michael's actions in the 2nd film were a means to finding a legitimate way out of the mafia life without consequences but he had underestimated how much people weren't willing to let this life go and at what cost it would take to actually get out. It wasn't until after he lost what was really important to him which was his desire to be a family man that we truly saw him defeated. That's the significance of how the first two films end. The biggest tragedy of all wasn't that he had become the godfather or destroyed the family but that he would have never truly been in love.
I saw the godfather not as referring to Vito or Michael but the position. Vito earned it Michael inherited it. Respect for michael was given only after he earned it, respect was given to the position/ occupation. Being god father changed both men. For vito it gave him the ability to take care of his family, for michael it destroyed his family.

Mispronounced every name
Frank wanted the band to play Mezzo Mare to which the band interpreted as Pop Goes the Weasel.
the first one is soooooo good. one of my all-time faves. oddly enough i didn't like the second and beyond at all.
Finally someone that says they don't like part 2
@@yawn1171 i truly feel like i’m the only person who has this opinions haha. and it makes me feel like i’m a crazy person cause i’m like “what is everyone seeing that i’m not?”
and i WANT to like it! so much so that (i think) i’ve pushed through and watched it at least 3x in its entirety (over the years) to see if my opinion would change, and it did- i hated it more and more on each viewing.
the first GF is about as perfect as you can get, but the second is ROUGH. i’m pretty sure i watched the 3rd one but it was bad in the way that it was so bad that it was at least somewhat enjoyable for the comedic relief, but the GF2 is just…..tiring and i don’t get it, man.
@@wifeunderthesea you know how people joke about a movie and says wow nothing in that movie. That's godfather 2 for me well stuff does happen nothing I cared about
OMG 2 hour 20 minute video 😅😅
Super fan of commentators moving from marvel garbage to real cinema. Keep it up.
Paul walked so we could run.
Is this just a mash up?
Factoid ... Nicholas Cage is Sophia Coppola's first cousin so he's Francis' nephew. He changed his last name to Cage for professional purposes so he wouldn't be gifted roles simply because of his uncle.
Also, My first 2 hubby's were from Brucato and Palermo SICILY. The towns are EXTREMELY close to each other and the island is only so large. As a younger woman I had strawberry blonde hair (since darkened to auburn and albino) with green eyes ... I also spent some time living in NJ where I underwrote mortgages on Staten Island ... the current home of many Family members. Yes ... At one point I married into the mob and had no fears ... they're just people.
This mf Paul been my favorite youchewber for years now. Shout out heavy spoilys for
