      This is a travesty. I want EVERY game to have either a superboss or challenging extra area. ESPECIALLY FF Games because FF6 and FF7 introduced me to superbosses. It gives me something to feel like I am preparing for. Most games offer too little challenge, so difficult optional content can at least balance things a bit.

    I agree with you completely. I died once outside of hunts in the main game. And that’s because I thought I could tank the Akashik dragons fire breath sweep with half health and I ended up dying from it. And then I died like 5 times to svarog when I was level 38 because I got one shot multiple times. That being said, my friend saw the game and thought it looked amazing so he wanted to try it. He basically only plays online shooters so he has little experience with action games like this. He died over 10 times before even beating Garuda. Mostly due to running out of potions before a boss fight. So yeah, he was actually complaining about it being too hard sometimes and had too much pride to use the rings to help. This game has boss fights that last long enough to still be satisfying for me, even if I was never in danger of dying. And that’s why I still had so much fun with this game. I don’t need to die constantly to have fun. I just need to feel satisfied. I have the souls games to go play if I want to die.

    The lack of difficulty is because of how strong Clive is defensively. Compare it to something like SoP, you can't mash dodge in that game, if you do, the second dodge is a significantly worse dodge than the first. Soul shielding is the best option, but it consumes a resource that you have to constantly manage.
    Meanwhile, Clive can mash dodge, use one of his immensely strong counter abilities like raging fists and rook's gambit, use will o the wykes to negate hits entirely, use the Shiva eikon to freeze enemies after dodging, or use titan to block everything. All of these being incredibly easy to time. Also, items can be used regardless of what state Clive is in. If you get caught in a multi-hit attack, you can easily use a potion during that to prevent yourself from dying. Limit break also prevents you from dying and can be activated at any point. It's just incredibly easy to not die. Add in pretty low damage in normal mode, and you really don't even have to bother to dodge most attacks.
    I really would've liked some kind of harder mode available from the start. Maybe precision dodging has tighter timing, maybe you can't mash dodge, you can only use items when there's no other animation happening, damage is a little higher, enemies a little more aggressive. I think things would've been fine then. Being overpowered can be fun, but there's a point for me where it makes things uninteresting and I think FFXVI teetered pretty close to that in normal mode.

      A ring that changes your defense to zero would also be good. Honestly I feel like they should patch in an "Ultimaniac Ring" that turns the base game into Ultimaniac mode when you put it on, since while in Ultimaniac you can only hold one of each type of potion, take double damage and enemies are way more aggressive.

    Poison: drains health over time
    Time out: Unable to command Torgal or Torgal unable to act for a set time
    Aether shackle: drains limit break gauge
    Amnesia: unable to use eikonic abilities for a set time
    Despair: unable to do will damage for a set time
    One other thing would be to more of an emphasis around eikonic vulnerability so that way for certain hunts and bosses you could build a set around that vulnerability for a little more engagement.

    The base difficulty in FF feels equivalent to Devil Hunter difficulty in DMC games for me. Enough that trash never poses an issue, but certain elites and bosses can take you out if you're not paying attention (though it is more generous with healing than DMC). FF mode is not much more difficult though considering you've got the whole toolkit from ng+ and knowledge of enemy movesets.
    I think its really fun to play around with the tools available, but yeah, it could do with something similar to Dante Must Die mode unlocked for new playthroughs and I hope they do continue support for the game and add that at some point.

    My main problem is how incredibly forgiving dodging is. Only a few skills animation lock you, and most of those are ults which animation lock enemies too. You can dodge always even mid air or mid combo. You don't need to dodge OUT of an aoe to dodge it, you just need to be dodging when damage applies. I could see that being fine for a story mode playthrough or maybe tie that effect into the dodge accessory as an additional bonus, and then making us actually need to care about aoes and such without that accessory.

    • @darkguardian50
      @darkguardian50 Год назад +1

      I'm ok with this on the normal difficulty. But I think Ghost of Tsushima is a good example of how you adapt this in difficulty modes. As you go up in difficulty in ghost your perfect dodge and especially perfect parry windows become smaller and smaller. This allows people not good at such games to ramp up their skill in a more natural way.

    • @OnyxFlameGod
      @OnyxFlameGod Год назад

      @@darkguardian50 yeah, thats why i feel like it would be a good thing to have on the automatic dodge accessory, but not be the default way dodges work. So you could at least opt out of the ez mode dodges if you want by just not using that accessory.

  • @Annaynay
    @Annaynay Год назад +5

    As an action game enjoyer I definitely found it too easy, I didn’t even use potions manually until well into the latter half of the game. I just don’t know how you go about making the game harder without making it less fun. If you let enemies also semi prime, they just become sponges, if you give them similar tools to Clive, like allowing them to parry, block or dodge, they just become irritating to fight. The only real way to make the game more challenging is through arcade mode and style gameplay, but the scoring system is flawed like you pointed out in your previous video. And honestly, whilst there are some neat eikonic abilities with combo potential, the high damage abilities like Zantetsuken, Diamond Dust, Gigaflare and Judgement bolt are just way too powerful to give up in exchange for utility to actually make the gameplay interesting.

    • @snowsoldier413
      @snowsoldier413 Год назад

      Honestly, if that's what you're worried about it's actually fairly easy to make it more difficult. For one thing, Zantetsuken simply makes it so you don't have to interact with some of the more difficult sections. Just make it have a damage fall off like some of the AOE skills in XIV for example. It would keep high stagger damage combos on bosses, but reduce damage done on enemy packs. Secondly, make it so you can only use at most 1 or 2 of the captsone eikon abilities. It seems redundant to me that you can have multiple of these, but if you had to pick one or two suddenly it becomes a picking game of which one synergizes the best with the playstyle you're going for.
      As for the base game, that is a bit more complicated, but for me it comes down to how many potions they give you. Ideally, in general the dungeons probably shouldn't be restocking you on potions at all, and it would make the longer stretch ones a game of keeping damage low and managing your HP. I would also probably turn on the more aggressive AI from the get go, because even if they don't do as much damage as they would in ultimaniacs, they still would be constantly hitting you and be a concern at all times.

    Simple answer... Yes it's way too easy considering you can't choose anything harder until after beating the game.... We should have a choice to have it difficult right away. Many people hate easy games and when you're forced to play it on "easy" it ruins half of the enjoyment. Like we already have all these ridiculous accessories that make it EVEN easier so why do the people that like hard games not have a choice to make it harder right away

    If anything, the game certainly is made to be accessible. But I think the skill ceiling is high enough for the players that want it. The game gives you basic win/lose conditions but it is sort of up to the player to decide what it means to win or lose. For the people who say the game is too easy, they are absolutely right. If your goal is to simply defeat the enemies and not die, then you will have an easy game. But for me, I can't just defeat the enemies. I need to style on them. I need to be able to land badass and creative combos, while also doing a ton of DPS. I need to be able to weave in dodges, parries and counters in between the onslaught. If a combo does not play out the way I had it in my head, or I miss precision dodges or parries, or if I simply take too much time on a fight, I would consider that a loss. I am always pushing myself to improve even though the game does not require it, and that lets me enjoy the game so much more.

    • @Eversoul12
      @Eversoul12 Год назад

      The best DPS in the game has no style. The moves it uses literally stop the stagger bar and slow the enemies surrounding it down to basically nothing. The game doesnt even pressure you into running out of healing at any point. even on the hard difficulty. Elden Ring sold like 20 million units and it doesnt hold your dick for you while you piss like this game does. There is a huge difference between accessible and insulting peoples intelligence.

    • @zsl121
      @zsl121 Год назад

      @@Eversoul12 I prefer Style > DPS. That is why I generally avoid using the "Ultimate" abilities that freeze time. I generally prefer the abilities that can be used creatively and combo well. The difficulty is what ever you make of it, you do not need to let the game decide it for you. If you feel there are certain abilities that are too strong, don't use them. If you feel like healing is too generous, don't use any heals. Some people even find Elden Ring too easy, and so they do different types of challenge runs. Like I said before, if a fight doesn't go the way I planned, like if I get hit, I would consider that a loss, even though technically the game still says that I won that battle.

    I came into this game expecting more DMC with extra flavor, I ended up getting something more like Xenoblade where you attack to wait for abilities and just do those...Comboing is incredibly inefficient in this game as 1 or 2 abilities can just clear most fodder and some moves are over-tuned. Like I can combo a single enemy using Garuda while I can just use Ignition, FoR, DD, Gungnir/HC into Zantetsuken etc and clear shit in less time. Not to mention Garuda, ONE ability of Shiva and ONE of Titan can be used in the air, so much for Air combos then. Impulse for some reason is broken in damage AND stagger so GG if you get that on an elite on top of Lightning Rod, Ults etc.
    Why do people also bring up not equipping accessories or upgrading weapons etc? I want difficulty, not to do a challenge run; very different things mate.

    I think that the focus on difficulty is a product of the new action combat system. I think it's definitely too easy (especially since they give you a wealth of tools to make it easier) on first pass. But I'd counter with another question:
    Setting aside the MMOs -- Has any Final Fantasy game ever really been difficult? Outside of the first time you blundered into a Tonberry unawares 30+ years ago, on a scale of 1 to 10, what would you rate the average difficulty of any given random encounter in a random Final Fantasy game? How many points up the scale would you move if you didn't optimize or overlevel? Even when I actively refuse to get ultimate weapons or grind or et cetera, that number is maybe...a 3 out of 10?
    I think FFXVI is a result of that lineage. They wanted so badly to tell this Final Fantasy story that they wanted to make sure that the new gameplay system didn't interfere with that objective.
    For me, the galling omission (which you've covered in another video) -- is that Ultimaniac score attacks have no component of move variety or time -- You can actually S rank EASIER if take longer and use weaker attacks, which inherently removes a TON of challenge from the difficulty.

    you get new gear: gear in general in this game was boring af but it was literally the same stuff just with new names
    you get more stronger enemies: that are just as easy as they were before but not feel like damage sponges
    Like difficulty missing in a game is one thing that I was somewhat let down by BUT you lock the "hard mode" behind a 2nd playthrough, which is something I already hate doing because why force me to play the game twice to get the challenge i want, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME PROMISING SO MUCH and then delivering it really half-assed (imo)

I mean there is easy and there is "I am a massive cool boss, that will barely hit you throughout the fight if you stand close to my feet and you just have to spam me with attacks to kill me, maybe dodge once".
    To be fair there was one boss like that ;p But still, I feel that hunts provide the cool challenge especially if you do them before reaching their level, but main story fights did not cause a difficulty once. I would love for the game to have an option to be a little more difficult. And I dont mean "make boss HP larger" because sometimes its just it. I would enjoy it if regular bosses would have some more attack variety, some more cool mechanics and if they would deal a little mor damage. I am not saying none of them have, but if a noob player like me was not bested in the main story unless I was meant to, something is wrong ;p

    - Playing through all the arcade mode stages, but only being able to equip abilities a limited amount of time (so I have to use every Eikon/ability equaly.
    - While the arcade mode point system has some issues I think it is still possible to have fun with it. for example trying to get an A rank in Ultimaniac in the lowest time possible. (Or wherever it falls where it would be the most fun having to balance speed and not killing everything super quickly)
    - playing a random stage where half the abilities get chosen for me and I have to fill the rest out myself. (with some restrictions on overpowered abilities)
    While I personally think they game could have done a better job balancing things out (including the difficulty), I think it offers an interesting playground for self opposed challenges.

    Great video. i treated this as more of a god of war type of game in terms of difficulty and told others the same vs an arcade fighting rpg like dmc and bayonetta. I say that because the arcade games are more about player skill where as the god of war style games are more about stats
    ,compared to the arcade games where the difficult levels really start pushing you the higher up you go in terms of system mastery. This game & god of war might be hard at the start, but its more of a numbers game. the system itself is not that complex, and once you start getting some equipment upgrades your power level relative to the enemy will start to even out.
    My only complaint was i wish the bosses were harder on the highest difficulty to really push you or at least had some super bosses you could fight post game, like valkyrie level of hard from god- see if you really mastered the system and its a fun challenge- . which im kinda surprised they don't have much to do in new game+. this might be the 1st ff game i played that doesnt have super bosses which is sad since i love the combat system and wanted an actual hard challenge at the very end to flex on.

    On a recent Easy Allies interview Ryota Suzuki said that at one point during development they were planning on letting Clive use all Eikons and all eikonic abilities in combat without having to be limited, but then decided to limit to only 3 Eikons and 6 abilities. He never elaborated on the reason why, and this is a bit disappointing in today's gaming "journalism" that people asking developers these questions (Damiani) never actually ask a follow-up question "why". Questions from interviewers are so concerned about being absolutely polite and non confrontational or even inquisitive or anything even remotely showing disagreement or giving opinion, that it is hard to get an answer about certain decisions developers made. I feel we SHOULD have been allowed to use all abilities in combat to have more fun, and that the developers should have mitigated the assumed "overpowerdness" of the main character (that would probably be perceived as such if he was allowed to use all abilities at once) by actually making the mobs do more actions and do them more frequently. Honestly, the mobs just stand there for so long without doing anything, and then even when they do SOMETHING, it's so easy to predict and avoid.
    The game's difficulty shouldn't come from mobs' HP bloat or them doing more damage to you, but by them having CHALLENGING AI and multiple mechanics to keep you on your toes. Imagine the usual RPG standards where you learn multiple abilities by the endgame, but then just arbitrarily having to not be able to use everything you know. This is just a developer's crutch and a show of failure on their part in making a game with challenging combat. No matter how much HP or damage anything in FFXVI will ever do, the game will forever be brain dead easy because the mobs just don't do anything most of the time. All small mobs almost never have block or evade mechanics in their kit, they can be perma stunlocked by simply mashing one button, without any diminishing returns on you as a player button mashing, and the large mobs can just be abused by ultimate skills having time freeze properties. I also never really noticed mobs being more aggressive in Final Fantasy difficulty either. How they ever thought all this would make a good combat system I will never understand. But despite all this criticism, I DID have fun with the game, it's just a huge wasted opportunity.

      I wouldnt need all of the eikons powers all at once, however I feel there was definitely space for the player to use at lest 8. But there are two sides to this. I only want more attacks because what is the point of unlocking all of this great power and then you can only use 6 attacks wtf. However if we had more eikon powers than we have now we would never have to use the sword we would ust be spamming eikon attacks. I rarely use the sword with only what we have now, the fight would be all attack cutscenes and nothing else with 8 ;p
      But it is annoying.
      Also I feel they didnt have a lot of good ideas while creating the attacks/the balance. At least while watching this I cant figure out (yet) the good combo to use like all the attacks were created separately without a thought about connecting them in combat. I wish the attacks could be somehow comboe'd together.
      Or maybe I havent figured this one out just yet. (I mean probably I havent because the game doesnt tell you what to combine, and that is cool, but... because the game is not that difficult I dont have incentive to really look for it ;p)

    I am still early in the game and as a turn based player I do not find it easy at all. yet, spamming lunge with magic burst and torgal ravage seems to be the easiest way to play... because the limitation on potions carried is annoying.... in the limit break fight all I did was dodge from afar and charge magic till stagger... and I won...
    on the other hand, I would prefer to have elemental weaknesses to will damage, i.e. garuda weak to fire for stagger (a small multiplier), or titan weak to shiva, etc. and then increase the HP of the enemies... and zenketsuken to have a really long cooldown

    I enjoyed the game a lot, but I would say the lack of a challenge was a criticism I have. I died three times my entire playthrough, all to Hunts. Once to the very first hunt because I just stood in the doom like an idiot, and the other two on Atlas and Svarog respectively. CBU3 could have cranked it up a quite a bit, and they should have had more faith in the community to get passed it. People who needed to could have actually used those rings because as it is they're pretty much unnecessary outside of accessibility. I don't need a big challenge, but I do want the threat of failure and that rarely existed in my playthrough. Thinking about it, even if FF or Ultimaniac mode was unlocked from the start the upgraded dodge is probably just too OP.

    The problem is the restocking potions when you get into certain chunks of bosses HP. If you died and the potions didn't return to full it would've been better.

      It’s not a good idea because u’ll need to buy every time new potions to retry boss fight. I believe the best way is to return player on checkpoint right before battle with the same count of potions that player had before.

      This could result in less skilled players becoming soft-locked on bosses and having to reload a save some distance back. Maybe for the NG+ difficulties it would make sense, but for the regular first playthrough on arcade, restocking is a safety net against having to reload an hours old save, which is no fun for anyone.

    FFXVI is my intro to the series and I really love it for it's story, I know people have compared the game to DMC 5 but to me DMC is all about the combat (I mean DMC 5 is a masterclass of an action game and as far as I know is pretty much unparalleled in this era of video games). Like I never thought FF was about gameplay, more so about the world and story. Mind you I'm not saying it shouldn't be fun and obviously gameplay matters but I don't get why people were expecting it to be super challenging. As far as I can tell the people finding it super easy are people who have a lot of experience with action games so like what were you expecting? It would be nice it more challenging stuff was added for the sake of longevity and endgame content but like as for just playing through the game I feel like a majority of the players are going to find the game adequately challenging already. Maybe I'm wrong and to be honest I don't really know what the demographic is but this is only the second game or something to lean heavily into the action genre and I feel like maybe most existing FF fans play these games for the story, I mean it is a JRPG. I would say having more options for making the game harder is obviously only beneficial because it gives players the incentive to put more hours into mastering the combat among other perks, and it's definitely something to work on for the devs in the future but as of right now I feel like this is just a really positive step in the right direction for the franchise. I mean as someone who knew very little about FF before this game it definitely got me interested in the future of the franchise.

    I think my main problem is that for all the DMC comparisons square invited and acknowledged. This game is just a kiddy pool in depth in comparison. There's not much to learn and the game never encourages you to be stylish or change things up.
    I would understand this if they had to make it simpler to compensate for the rpg/open elements. But like those aren't good either. The rpg elements are basically non existent and don't matter. And I don't understand why areas are open if there's nothing really to find.
    I just wish they made it level based or something to go deeper on the combat

    you would think that a guy with so much self cited history with the franchise would know, there are few FF games that have a legitimate challenge. all final fantasy games, the hard part is simply learning and adapting to the systems for the current installment. once that is done, the games end up being pretty easy. the goal of the game is to tell an interesting and compelling story with fun and engaging game mechanics, not give you _Game Over_ screen PTSD.
