- Revolver is proud to present "Lyric Dissector," a new video series in which heavy-music artists break down the lyrics of standout songs, word for word. The premiere episode features Arch Enemy frontwoman Alissa White-Gluz, who tells the powerful personal story behind the group's Will to Power cut "First Day in Hell." The vocalist was inspired to write the song by her grandparents, both of whom survived the Holocaust. "I heard these stories from them," she explains, "and I thought it was about time to just take this personal weight that I had in this historic event and translate it into a song."

My respect for Alissa and AE increases the more I hear both. Great person and band!
Not only is she beautiful but she is brilliant as well. Very well spoken and articulate. I really enjoy these because they give us a peak behind the curtain so to speak. I would love the series to continue with not only new metal songs but classic ones as well. Geezer Butler would make an incredible episode on any number of Black Sabbath songs

Sobering. There is too much too comment on effectively in the video and in the comment section. I'm glad that heavy rock bands have lyrics that discuss such meaningful topics. Many people are reluctant to go to these kind of subjects. Her points are relevant to our day to day lives.
These lyrics, so powerful, so meaningful...that's why I love Metal.

This is one awesome tune, and Alissa's is indeed my favorite death metal vocalist! The band is amazing on stage as well...saw them live in Orlando the end of 2017 and will see them again when they're back in this area!

I worked for The Agonist, several times as security, I was hired by them personally and later for Arch Enemy too, Glenn Danzing introduced me to Alissa, she was the manger for the band I know, she also created the art, many of their old songs. These musicians are independent, today Arch Enemy's manager is Angela that's one reason she quit, to manage the band, Alissa is real, real metal not a fake bone in her so is the band Arch Enemy, they delivered 11 albums in 20 years and every Album is great metal created by the band and that is rear. I hate mainstream cult and if you're not a part of that cult and you can survive in this entertainment you deserved it, and you are a very special person. I met Alissa over 13 years ago in New York when I was security for her, and later I met Arch Enemy band and many other metal bands when they toured the North!. Good people and original as you saw in the video.

Alissa is incredibly beautiful. My goodness. I could stare into those eyes for eternity.
Fortunately for me I’ve aged enough to ignore artists political and social views. If this was 1990 and not 2019 I would never listen to Arch Enemy because of this song. I’ve aged and matured and First Day In Hell is my favorite song by them. It’s amazing how people change. I listen to music because I love it, not for politics. Too much politics everywhere else. And while I don’t agree with a lot of what Alissa says, I love her, her voice and the band.
It's always astounding when people think saying "the holocaust was bad" is too political
You do realize First Day in Hell isn't about politics, right...? The Holocaust is a historical event that happened, despite what all the naysayers say(that would be political indeed, being a naysayer that is), with plenty of evidence to support it. Whether it's testimonial, observable, empirical, etc, you simply can't deny the Holocaust happened in good faith. Why am I bringing this up? Because this is the only possible angle to view the Holocaust as something political and it's as asinine as being a flat earther.

Being Christian, I don't agree with her being an atheist but her music is great! My favorite song is "you will know my name". She is very pretty, too and a true artist!
At least she's given it some thought and determined her position on many matters. She doesn't just accept group A and book B, and ignore the conflicting issues like radicalism, animal rights, critical thinking etc. I find that admirable. Let her make up her own mind, as long as it doesn't conflict with the freedom of others. She's already mentioned she believes in "show, don't tell". Be a good rolemodel by acting like one. Don't talk about how people should behave. Another admirable quality, that's quite lacking in today's society.
Another cool thing I hear is when she explains lyrics she says sometimes, I don't want to explain too much. I want to let people find their own meaning in the words.
