Yeah, I hate it when "tuners" take a great car and ruin it - low riders, stupid huge wheels etc. A young turk in my neighborhood found a perfectly clean, low milage 300 ZX, 2 years ago. I congratulated him for his find. "Well thanks sir !" Then he proudly "tuned it". Oh man... pure disaster. Shame.
Well it's a Spirit R. It would be like modifying an e30 M3 at this point. Unfortunately, in stock form, they will have failures and parts have been getting phased out for a while and the existing stock has climbed in price substantially. It's actually the main reason I sold mine last year and oddly wound up buying a Volvo. Happy to see one in Canada protected from the elements. Hopefully, it has a long life with what seems like a great owner.
Whoa, that's one of the cleanest FD's I've ever seen. It looks like it just left the dealership! It's great to see so many people still love rotaries and hold them in high regard, they're definitely something uniquely special and can instantly bring a smile to any enthusiast. Awesome car, congrats on finding such a treasure. And seeing you know what you're doing I'm sure it'll live a good and long life with you.
I drove home to spend Christmas with my folks in 1985 and my Dad and I went out to look at cars, as we both wanted to drive an RX-7. I bought a Dover White with dark chocolate interior '85 GSL-SE after having driven it for just a few minutes. My Dad bought a silver '86 the same day. Other than my '11 Audi S4, that RX-7 was my favorite all-time car. I paid around $16k for her, and she was worth every penny. My dad sold his to my nephew ten years later. Sure wish I still had mine!
My older brother would always let me borrow his DVD's of Initial D, and i remember this being one of my favorite cars from the series. The RX-7 is what you call a recent classic.
Gorgeous car. In the last apartment complex I lived in before buying a home, someone else there owned a brand new RX-7 of this generation and since they were forced to park it outside nearby I had plenty of opportunities to admire it. I'm not a Mazda fan so this is the first I've heard of the Spirit R. I can see why it would be a very desirable car. So cool to see any car of this era still completely stock. Thanks for sharing!
I get the thrill of making loads of mods on FDs, but to me this RX-7 being fully stock makes it far more desirable. Awesome job man. I wish I could get my hands on such a clean RX-7 one day.
Absolutely gorgeous car, and easily on its way to becoming one of the most timeless sports cars of the 90's. And this is easily the pinnacle version of it.
Owned and drove five of the mid 80's model, really enjoyed them. Test drove and almost bought a 2001 but it wasn't the right car for me at the time. These are beautiful cars and a lot of fun to drive. The sequential turbo is really fun when the second turbo kicks in. By the way, for all you craving exhaust notes, they really isn't much of one particularly with the turbo. I didn't find the lack of exhaust noise a detriment to the driving experience. Thanks for sharing.
I love these very personal accounts of how ownership came to be. This wouldn’t be my typical taste in car but the passion is clear here and now I’m intrigued to check them out. Nice one!
Nothing In comparison but I just bought a Mazda 3 hatch because the engine of the Ford Probe(had 2 ) 😂 ❤️ I realize how it sounds. The FD Rx-7 is one of those cars that looks perfect from the factory, a timeless design that aged beautifully!
LOL it was aged when it left the factory!!!!
Except the bump on the nose for the license plate. It's criminal that it was acceptable to do that on a car this pretty.

I have to agree...the rotary makes such a unique sound, it should be against a the law to make a video without showing it revving out...
the sound would make the video R rated :)
Haha... RUclips would demonetize it for “violence”

Good lord, that car is absolutely *mint.* Another great film as always. The RX7 (of any generation) has always been one of my top vehicles from Japan.
Got to keep these things as stock as possible. Mod the other RX-7 and leave these 1500 beauty Spirit R alone.
I love that he is keeping it stock more people should do this more often just enjoying the car for what it truly is
