Been building for 40 years, still love watching you figure stuff out on your own, some of your solutions are very creative and different, but you know enough to make stuff fairly safe and functional, that's all that really matters. If it was a residential home that you were building it would be one thing, but these are cabins in the woods, not the same standard. And I was already crazy so it's not your fault!!
Cool addition to cabin. Have you thought about making a small deck in front of the door or steps like in front of man door. May look awesome and help him jump into door.
You made it easy to get into the house if you lock yourself out cause the latches are outside and inside the dog house instead of in the house. Great build and vid
Long time subscriber...Wish I could hire you to fix all my house issues around here...I spend hours each day trying to keep my fur baby's warm while I work 12hrs a night...You are Not only funny' but very educated...
There are some really great dog pulling harnesses you can get, for LOAD PULLING. They don't DIG IN at the chest and shoulder areas. Your dog is super handsome!!
That's really cool! If I'll ever have another dog, I'll definitely do the same. My Malamute doesn't want to use the dog house and he only comes inside the cabin to ask for food :)) Everything is too warm for him.
Hey Ryan, a future project for the dog door into the cabin would be to have the hinge on the top of the door (instead of the side) and then have pneumatic struts like a hatchback on a car, then it opens with a remote control button. Besides being a really cool unique feature, the additional benefits are: Easy open from inside the cabin with a push of a button, and the door swinging up doesn’t really impede the interior of the dog house like the side open does. It’s way more complicated but so cool to customize like your other unique projects. Happy New Year and stay healthy! Love your channel!!
Your big adorable boy just makes me so happy. I lost my boy the end of November so seeing this happy pup with all your love fills my heart. TY for sharing his puppy joy with us 🐶🥰
Not sure if anyone has said this but if you build a sled use old cross country skies as your runners. They go forward and will not slid backwards. Work fantastic.
I just happen to see your video and how sweet the dog house is!! He is beautiful and deserves only the best. Can't wait to see it all decked out and cozy!! Wags and wet kisses from Texas!!🐾🤩🐾
Ryan, get yourself a small "Playmate" style cooler for your batteries while you are working outside. Pop them in the cooler while you aren't using them and swap them regularly. One of those small air activated handwarmers should keep things nice and toasty... and operable.
Maybe make a travois for him to pull, with an upgrade of wheels that can be taken off when not needed. Or maybe just a plain ‘cart’ he can pull, with skids for winter and wheels for summer.
Hey Ryan, first I love watching your videos. I was thinking, could you build stairs for the outside of the dog house so he is more inclined to go in that way?
An idea for future kitchen. Build a wooden ice box (fridge) insulated with all that saw dust and harvest ice during the winter and make it last all summer. Keep food from freezing to bad in the winter and keep food cool in summer.
He is absolutely amazing at pulling the sled, the way he instinctively knew when it felt light weight, like he knew to stop before you did or told him to stop, it is like he was born for this, absolutely amazing!
For a hedder, I put plywood between two 2X6s. Four years ago I was at home, sick with not much to do when I saw #9 or #10 and went back to watch all the earlier shows. I have watched every video for four years. what a long strange trip it's been 😂
I had Iguanas and they loved the sun so I made a custom screen of regular screen stapled on a 1/2" w rectangular frame made of Furing Strips in a "sandwiched layer" then used 1/4" Square Chicken Wire,( again stapled into place ) so claws wouldn't pennate the fine bug-screen. It kept the Mosquitoes out, and my Iguanas happy. It's should work for your pet Moose too. Also, if he's not sure footed about the entryway from the outside, to the inside, he's not going to use it both ways. I'd suggest tacking Astro Turf where his bear paws are slipping on entry... Nice work and another nice drop. Respectfully, Mr. T.C. Cross Detroit Michigan 48234
I live on a small private lake in mid Michigan. Our lake has frozen and thawed about 4 times this season.Last year it only froze for about 3 weeks and never enuff to walk on it.I pray it gets frozen this year.I like the new dog house I hope Kipper loves it also.
Long live the Worm! Man, really enjoy the whole channel. But these are the videos that I like the most. Your patience is on another level. To construct, take down, and put back up. I guess when you’re not in a time constraint it probably helps! Happy new year worm!
Thanks for the video Ryan ! It's a nice addition to the cabin. I was a carpenter in my 20's. I have built and rebuilt several houses & other buildings; enough to have become familiar with the constraints of building codes. It's interesting to follow your creative approach to building that is not inhibited by codes and engineering. Best wishes & good luck ! 90.8K
We wish you a the best of 2025. We have enjoyed all your videos so much. Lots of laughs. Your big boy needs a ramp to enter his home. Saves his joints in his legs and back. We had dogs who needed back surgery. Expensive, but we loved them. Thanks again for the videos. Idaho fans
I enjoy watching you figure stuff out. The dog room is looking great. Please be safe and don't re-injure your back doing the milling this week. Can't wait for next week's video.
If you create a ramp or a few stairs outside the dog house door, your dog could easily enter the dog house...and you wouldn't have to be concerned about the slipperiness of the floor. Just watching him, he seemed hesitant because he would need to jump up into the doghouse, and THAT would cause him to slide. If he could just walk in easily he probably wouldn't hesitate...well, that's my guess anyway!
Gonna be cool to see how you & Tito innovate on now, the 3rd worm cabin structure. Tito's area in comparison to where your cabin is, looks cleared, a bit wet, lack of tree density etc.. Early days of RW you mentioned ya couldn't get a well drilling rig onto the property (along w/cost), maybe try a sandpoint well at Tito's location. I like the idea of having "Kuiper" on the dog.house facia/bargeboard. The door between cabin&doghouse reminds me of a mini ole.school cooler door, very nice. And yes, he really does have a solid bark, keep in mind when the snow has that crust to it and he's trying to keep up w/the honda or pulling a sled, it can be rough on the paws. I hate to mention that this happened to our GSD. You might start to see blood in the snow if his paws start to bleed. We were able to get sled dog paw boots after he healed up.
Without interior latches on either dog house door, you have to go outside (think: rain, sleet, snow, dark of night, skunks, bears, crazy people, etc.) to close/secure your house. That also eliminates it as a possible emergency/secondary exit.
Hi buddy happy new year!! I really enjoy watching how ya build things. The interaction between you and Kyper is so heart warming. Thanks for sharing, stay warm and God bless you and yours.
New subscriber, been watching the doghouse build. Piper has come a long way. That's a lucky dog. Also like the chainsaw milling videos. Have a great day.
I'm curious as to why the interior door latch is inside the doghouse. You have to go outside and open the outer door to open the inner door. That's an invitation for someone to access your cabin if you're gone. Regardless, I absolutely love all that you build, and have seen each and every video so far. 😊
Great job, looks really great but I'm confused on why the door handle isn't inside the cabin? So you can never open the door from inside the cabin. Or why would you even need a door. 😊
Building steps might encourage him to use the doggy door. Also when he gets older, jumping might not be in his wheelhouse. Try LED lighting strip with a light switch by the gum machine. But I would have placed a small sliding bathroom type window with screen for ventilation during the Summer months. You have a window, why can't the dog house have one?
So if you put him in there and close both doors tight, and you've sealed and insulated everything really well, he's going to run through the air in there in a few hours. Dog crates, even big ones, normally have a lot of ventilation holes in them. You really, really need a way to ventilate it with both doors closed if you are ever going to lock him into it for any reason.
this might be a dumb question, but why would you have the latch for the dog door that goes INTO the cabin on the outside wall of the dog door? If you put the latch on the inside of the cabin, it allows you to access the doghouse without having to get dressed and go outside, crawl through the doghouse, unlatch the door and then go back into the cabin. That doesnt make any sense. It also makes your cabin less secure because then if you lock the cabin, anyone could crawl through the doghouse, unlatch the door and enter your cabin.
I pencile on my name and soberiety date on pices of wood, then router them into the wood. It can be fancey or plain letters. Did not take me long to do it. Maybe it was a roundover bit not sure. Then I paint that grove with black then the clear coat. Have fun. The doors are neat, they just took a while to manufacture. I like the insulation part. My house is not isolated at all. It is 37 degrees inside of here. It does feel like a refridgeator in here. I have a lap blanket on me in the wheel chair. Paul in Ohio
Love you stuff and I enjoy watching you figure things out. Question: why is the latch for the door from the cabin into the doghouse on the doghouse side and not on the cabin side? 1) it would be more secure and 2) it would allow you to open it from the inside and without climbing through the doghouse?
Sorry for making 2 comments, but id like see you make that tethered ball break away from the main line with about half khyper weight on it, for obvious reasons, please consider this!!
Hey bro I have a question. Why didn't you have the door open from the inside so u didn't have to walk outside to open the inner door? You could probably put a door knob on .
