    Think about this engineering issue- To increase the capacity of a single rotor design beyond the current capacity of single rotor machines, it most likely would be necessary to increase the "diameter" of the rotor, which also would increase the "height" of the rotor assembly.
    That also would increase the height of the bottom of the grain tank (since the grain tank is directly above the rotor), which would then raise the center of gravity of the machine and increase the overall machine height (making it more unstable on hillsides).
    Once a single rotor design reaches a certain capacity limit, due to diameter and machine height restrictions, there are two options. Either add another rotor or be satisfied with existing capacity.
    Making the base machine wider with two rotors keeps the overall machine height within reasonable limits for transporting, for operation, and for storage.
    Someone else commented something to this effect- John Deere reached a point where desired machine capacity exceeded a single rotor capacity.
    For those of you who argue that New Holland was first to do that, you can be very proud of your machines. But other companies also have very good machines with their own unique qualities, and most likely, they engineered and tested their machines for much longer than we know. As time goes by and more capacity is desired, other companies will also take engineering steps necessary to compete.
    A ridiculous question might be- when do combine manufacturers reach another point where they want even more than two rotors, and just how complicated would that be? Something to think about!

    On paper, the X9 is behind the Claas Lexion 8900 and Fendt Ideal 10 in every aspect. And apperently it is no cheaper.
    Of course, they could have engineered it in such a way that it outperforms the others with less HP and slightly less cleaning area, but seeing as they are not willing to pit it against its main competitors, they havent.

      ruclips.net/video/lHAeZbdzdng/видео.html - This video shows a John Deere prototype "rotary" combine built in 1957, (New Holland introduced their first rotary in 1975. IH introduced their first rotary in 1977). Pause the video to read each paragraph shown on the screen. It's a fascinating history about the development of that very early John Deere rotary combine.
      Different people will have different views about which company had the best engineering. But the fact is - John Deere built their rotary prototype combine many years before most people think they did.

    Didn't New Holland invent the twin rotor combine back in 1975 with the TR70? and didn't New Holland also come out with a class 10 combine in 2014? Exactly what's new here other than it's a first for John Deere?

    • @chadjustice8560
      @chadjustice8560 4 года назад

      It's a huge step because Deere for years gave the impression they would never even build a rotor combine. Now just because new holland has it doesn't make them equal.
