- Future Corps at Epcot Center, Summer 1994.performing Birdland. Its a shame that this group no longer perform at Epcot. Guess I now have to go and rip the rest of the videos I have from '92 and '94.

.much lower key than Maynard's version. His band performed it in concert key of F. That makes for a High G on the solo/lead trumpet.
This version is much easier in register. Only in the key of D. Which puts the upper tonic note on the Bb Trumpet's mere High E.
I'm not sure why they did this as Future Corps always had plenty of solid lead scream players. One guess could be that the arranger wanted a more powerful bass sound from the Tenor Horns and Tubas. However that could lead to other problems. As in the Key of F the lower brass section can all blow a fat F natural one and a half octaves below concert middle C. No problem there.
However in order for the tenor Horns to be capable of blowing a solid D natural below that?
Requires an F attachment. And while I've certainly seen those things on Euphoniums?
I haven't seen them much on Tenor Horns. They may exist but are rare.
They aren't using Bb instruments. They are using bugles, all of them in the key of G. They are basically playing an exact transposition relative to the instruments they are using. A high concert D is a written high G on G bugle.
