Agree with your conclusions on the results being inconclusive(!) My general understanding on the 'bigger helmets' theory is that bigger helmets are typically a little faster for those who can hold the head lower between the shoulders, whereas if your head is held slightly more higher it quickly becomes negligible benefit and in some cases / head+shoulder shapes - a disadvantage. Maybe you're very well drilled with your position, but I would imagine the Aerohead is more forgiving for the moments you break position too ...? And, yeah: I see you touching on this point together with the distance... I was just about to say: if you were a 10 mile specialist and/or a track pursuiter: there's a small argument the POC might be a slightly better choice - but to cover all the distances up to half IM / IM, your choice sounds wise.
30 seconds is extremely significant over 40k. Of course, it could be more or less for you, or the Giro could even be faster. *even 15seconds is significant so long as it's a reliable 15s

Definitely not. A lot of people test better with an oversized helmet. You won't know without testing
