Curious to hear your thoughts on Shoei's latest RF-1400?! What do you think of Basalt Grey?
basalt grey 🔥
Basalt Grey is awesome, not sure if this is worth swapping from my rf-1200. Thanks for the review!
If you already have the RF-1200 and happy with it maybe not, but for those looking to buy a Shoei, the upgrades definitely make this worth it.
Basalt Grey is the new Black ! ;-)))
It's the new sexy
My god does that monster look good. No wonder why that frame was in the museum of art in Boston.
It really is so beautiful it's a shame Ducati ditched it
I wish they would have gone with the micro ratchet chin strap retention instead of the double D-rings. It's so easy and quick handle even with gloves on, and it's very secure.
Agreed 100 percent
not me personally, most track day orgs require double d ring closures.
If the helmet is tight around the top of your head, I don't think the helmet will break in. The padding is not very thick around the top. The cheeks my give in over time but not the top.
And it has actually gained weight lol.. like 3 ounces.
The sizing of this helmet is much different than the 1200. I bough the same size and it was extremely tight around my head and cheeks. I have a 58 mm head, and the chart showed I could fit in a medium. I bought a large and it was still too small. Waiting for an XL replacement. If the top of your head is oval like mine you may run into problems with the sizing.
Good review. Just want to throw out a heads up to all the watchers/readers: the hemlemt is 3 ounces HEAVIER than the RF 1200, NOT lighter. Other than that misinformation, thanks for the vid.
Sounds like the rf1200 was a fantastic helmet, but I saw they dropped in price. Is there a shelf life on them? Should you buy one that is brand new but it’s an older model?
all helmets have a "shelf life" typically 5-7 years from its birthdate, which can be found under the padding
Seems more inconvenient having to open and close visor at center of helmet. Gray looks great
Exactly something I will be testing to see if it actually feels like an inconvenience on the road
I agree. I think if you hold you thumb, like you're about to suck it, push in and pinch the little tab with your index finger it should lift straight up. In theory since I don't own the helmet yet.
@@Kingepticon thanks for the tip. It will probably be my next helmet
Love this color.
I will tell you one thing that helmet is not good for! people wearing prescription glasses... I went to Cyclegear here in Houston, and I struggled to get my glasses inserted through the ducts between the pads. The branches of my glasses are curved to sit behind my ears. It means that to insert them, I first need to get the end in line with the small canal. I tried the Shark Race GT and it was a much better experience. I can't tell why, since the ducts look similar.
It’s a different experience for me. I use glasses easily with this helmet. I can adjust it anytime and it stays that way, and there’s no pain
@@henrikgustav2294I am currently using a Shark Skwal i3, and inserting my glasses is a breeze. Having a sun visor integrated is also a big plus. For a 3rd of the price of my Shark Race R-Pro Carbon! my only gripe with the Skwal i3, is the noise. I wear earplugs, but the R-Pro Carbon is more sound proof.
Hi, thanks for the awesome vid. with the New RF1400 being more snug with a tighter fit ,did you take the same size as in your RF 1200?
I did take the same size but I also got the thinner cheek pads and it was a perfect fit
Thank you for your information CR. I hope we can buy it from other markets soon except usa.
Should be able to in the coming weeks with the season starting up! Going to head out for some rides this weekend
BEST HELMET ON THE MARKET QUIET,, LIGHT, WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR BEN RIDING FOR 50 YEARS NUF SAID.
It is actually slightly heavier than the RF1200, not lighter.
Correct, meant to say it "feels" lighter based on the aerodynamic changes
i just order my first shoei cant wait. but i have concern on sizing im lg size try lg and m and ended up with m size hope everthing will be okay. keep up the good work.
Thanks Skipper let me know how the helmet fits for you! What color did you get?
@@carswithsonduren i just receive my rf1400 Matt black Med. beautiful helmet going for a 2hour ride tomorrow, but it feels like to small for me. but size chart is on the money.
It's actually 3oz more than the rf 1200
Yes this is correct. Though supposedly the weight increase is not felt and feels lighter on the head due to the aerodynamic changes and improvements in lift and drag (6% and 4% respectively)
Good review...my gopro is mounted at the front...can it interfere with the opening of the visor?
Nice review !! Thanks !!
Welcome to the channel glad you enjoyed it 🙏
Nice video, i was wondering what model is tha dainese jacket ?
Thanks X! This is the Dainese Settantadue Freccia72 leather jacket
Just checked mine, I have an RF1100. Time to update...
It will be a great update from the rf1100. What color are you thinking of getting or are you going to get a graphic?
@@carswithsonduren basalt grey looks great! My Road Glide is vivid black so no graphic. I will also be getting either a 50s or packtalk slim which I have never had before
I have a Cardo Paktalk. Have you tried mounting a comm system on yours? The side looks interesting.
Actually I did a test with the cardo freecom 1 and it worked well but not the Paktalk. Let me know how yours gets installed?
I have a RF-1200 and it is so loud. I’m on a cruiser so upright but wondering if it’s any quieter?
Slightly not a significant improvement
just found you ...lol looking to replace my HJC .
You will love this helmet :)
I hate the visor latch. I ride with the visor up most of the time.
Yeah I'm going to see how I get used to that my intuition right away was I like the side visor latch but let's see what it feels like when I get riding again
Shoei the best. My 2nd choice is AGV.
Hey my friend. I’m just curious to know what size is that helmet you are reviewing in the video? 5 yrs ago I bough the RF1200 in size M, and struggled to decide between that and an L. I thought over time the M would get more comfortable but it didn’t, and has always bothered me. I may be looking to buy one of these rf1400 in that grey, but this time in size L. Can you share with me some of your thoughts / insights? Would greatly appreciate it!
Hey Rod! I bought the medium for myself and found it to be the perfect fit. I think what you will need to do is go into a store and get it fit to really see. Otherwise buy from a reputable shop where you can return it if the fit isn't right
@@carswithsonduren sounds good. I will certainly do that. Thank you for your reply. I’m also from the greater Toronto area, so we may cross paths one day. Take care my friend, all the best!
The Shoei RF1400 is much more tighter on the cheeks and neck. Almost uncomfortably tight on my cheeks. Looking to exchange new cheeks pads or replacement with larger size
Hey Shane I had the same problem with my RF 1200 and what I did was put some clamps on each side and clamped them down over two days. This helps significantly and made it much better. Now the cheek pads are supposed to push up on your cheeks, so you will still want to have that but little bit less to be more comfortable
They break in, I had same issue but I tested a helmet used and it fit good, so I bouaght it
I do have a Shoei Ex Zero in XL but it is kinda big on my head. I used XL on my Bell Moto 3 and fits right. Should I down size at Large in a Shoei RF 1400? Thank you.
I would say so downsize try it out see if you like that if not you could always return it just make sure you buy from a reputable company with a return policy
Just found your channel. I hear the vent at the back doesn't close like on the 1200. When I ride on cold days I really notice when it's open. How has it performed for you so far in cool Canuk temps?
Welcome to the channel JJ 👌🙏 you're right it doesn't close the same way as the RF 1200. So far the helmet has been good, great comfort love the pinlock system love the looks, but I have to admit I think it is a design failure having the visor tab being a button in the center of the helmet versus the tab that used to be on the left hand side of the RF 1200. It's very annoying for me to have to push down a button to release my visor to ratchet up. Much much easier on the RF 1200.
@@carswithsonduren thanks for the quick response. I'm not certain the "upgrades" are worth the extra $730 to $860- CAD) especially as the 1200 is now discounted. The change in shield design I'm sure I can adapt to, but i see the chromatic shields for this model aren't available yet, and i do love my reflective shields.. thanks for the feedback, more things to consider. Happy riding!
Agreed with you brother ride safe
You too. Btw it's sister.
Now I now sister :)
Do you have any issues with ear plugs. I have the custom silicone style made by an ENT and taking the helmet is like pulling off my ears. The plugs do not give at all.
No I haven't had any problem with it, you can also use the thinner padding which may give you more space.
@@carswithsonduren thats an idea I was thinking about. Thanks
Is this helmet good for sportbike riding in a tucked position? all the reviews online I see are on a cruiser and naked bikes and I'm confused on whether it's made for sportbike or cruiser
panigale and a bunch of other super sports. now the question is is there something better for a superbike and yes you could probably argue helmets that are specifically designed for aerodynamics in the full tuck position are probably like the shoei x14. So unless you're doing a lot of track, you won't see too much of a crazy difference on the street is my guess
This or the shoei x15?
I personally like this.
Do you think the visor is compatible to x14 or xspirit3?
Different rachet system, this one is completely new design i can bet the x15 will have the same rachet design
You look like Klay Thompson with the helmet on
😂😎
I’ve always called it “shoe-eeee” you know like something you wear in your feet.
Research paper I'm actually not sure what it is supposed to be pronounced like. Tomato tomato 🍅
I have always called them "Show-eeee. So does everyone else I know but at the end of the day, who really cares?
Starts @4:04
im going 5th year with my rf1200 and happy with it. i dont think its a big enoguh improvement to change helmet. Rf1200 is really hard to get on and off and they say 1400 is even harder, i cant imagine helmet to be any harder to get on and off. I use smallest snug helmet i can fit for aerodynamics and sound, size S is perfect for me once its on.
Right if you have the RF1200 I wouldn't necessarily go upgrade. Have you experienced any wind noise issues?
@@carswithsonduren no, most quiet and aerodynamic helmet iv had. track/fast street riding.
A correctly fitted helmet should be hard to get on and off. Over time there is about a 10% reduction in padding resistance.
My head size is 56.5, and size chart says MD is 57-58. I am not sure if I should got for M or S. M feels a bit loose, S is snug, I am not sure what will happen after 1h of wearing.
@@kecabojan S for sure. im 57+ and wear S
How do you pronounce shoei? I pronounce it as shoe-I.. this guy pronounced it as show-e and I've heard others pronounced it as shoe-e
Personal preference I guess 😅
show-e
beauti4!~
OMG double d ring strap sucks. Deal breaker.
I wouldn’t say it’s a dealbreaker, but it is a funny annoyance.
Hey are you member of duc’s in toronto
Not familiar with that group got a link?
I don't have the panigale anymore :( sold it a year or so ago
Checking it out now thanks for the link! Yea but I do love the monster now which is a wonderful bike and making it my own has been really nice. I will share more soon :)
@@carswithsonduren my bike is a monster as well🇮🇹😎
No ECE approval? DOT means nothing for motorcycle helmets.
RF1200 was a noisy, loose poor helmet way overpriced.
This helmet is over priced also. For that price where is the MIPS?
The grey colour makes the top & back portion loook like a giant over sized egg.
