decided to pick up the trombone again after 10 years of it collecting dust. really appreciate the lesson in helping me relearn the mouth's position on the mouthpiece

Giving a guide to forming an embrochure is good, but be aware everyone has their own position that works for them. Teaching a front placement is good to set a straight forward standard embrochure. My Instructor plays trumpet with his mouthpiece really far right. Great tutorial.
Thanks I was struggling!👍
Thanks this really helps me alot now that I'm in band wil be able to keep up with the rust of the band since I just started

Nice! solid corners! never forget!
I agree with all the MusicProfessor has to say. From experience, I'll say to young trombonists, stay away from smokeless tobacco, it'll mess up your lip. The knowledge might be in your brain but that snuff will rob you of the main thing you love. Yes, I loved my ability to play my horn; just remember kids, smokeless tobacco will rob you & it's hard to quit. I quit for 6 months around 2002 at about age 43 & got my lip back, but soon to disappear after I started rubbing snuff again. So if you have a brass playing friend that rubs snuff and wants to make a career out of music, encourage him to stop.
i really want to join band this year at school but i cant make a proper sound with any of the instruments ive tried. everybody else could make a sound with most of the instruments and that made me feel very bad. hopefully the teacher will let me try again tomorrow. thanks for the video :)
It Helps Me With Band So Thanks Food For Life!🍌🍊🍇🍅
You're Welcome! 🎶😋
Appreciate the help
Thank you very useful
One additional point of consideration is to focus on keeping your upper and lower front teeth apart sufficiently when saying the "M". Opening up the oral cavity helps in tone production and sound. It also helps ensure a less restricted pathway for airflow into the instrument via the mouthpiece.
Right. So what you're also talking about is called 'voicing'. It's the way your tongue functions to assist in pitch changes.
I wish I knew this when I was in high school I am from a very rural community and we had no music teachers, etc and the high school band director did his best. It was very tough to try to get to the city for any lessons and when we could it was very expensive (sigh). Thus no one in my high school as of yet succeed in music yet with a brass instrument in any college.
You are actually better off not knowing this stuff. Let the sound dictate the embouchure, and the air stream. These theories of embouchure will result in muscular tension.
I have played the trombone for over 50 years and there is some excellent advice given online and some awful advice also given. Mouthpiece placement is dependent most on your own facial structure. Of course there are some general guidelines but I would suggest that a brass player who is just starting off get with a good teacher. I think this video is fairly accurate in representing a good starting mouthpiece placement. After this please get a proper teacher.
:')
hopefully the kids in my band class
won't stare at me because I'm horrible even tho i played for 3 years (didn't practise as much because i was embarrassed) 💀💀
i find idk if it helps but if you put your upper lip on the rim of the mouthpiece and your lower one inside the mouthpiece its much easier to tongue notes clearly.
boa noite prof quais são os benefícios do exercício no bocal
What mouthpiece do you play on?
I am learning trombone from my teammate from Tian Guo Marching Band.
Wonderful! Trombone is so much fun...
I've watched so many videos 🙄i still have don't get the embouchure. I know you have to buzz your lips, open the the inside of your mouth, keep the corners of your lips firm, and use your air to make them buzz but I still can't get a proper tone out of it or any not higher then a G on the trombone
practice is the key. the more you play the better you become its no secret. and this has been posted a while ago im curious too see how you’re doing now?
En español por favor
Though it's nice for someone to provide guidance on where to place your mouthpiece, it's more or less based off of comfort for whoever is playing. There are ways that you SHOULD put your embachure, however the way I suggest that you place your mouthpiece is however you can to make yourself sound the best that you can. Fabulous video though. :)
will I be alright at trombone if I've played trumpet for almost 3 years
yes, the hardest part for you will be learning how to read the notes. trombone is easy because there is only 7 positions, and only about 5 different notes at each position. but since you have trumpet history, hitting the high notes on a trombone shouldnt be difficult,
You’ll have a godlike range that’s for sure
What model and size is that Gregio alessi mouthpiece
A Bach 12C will do it. If large bore tenor try a Bach 3G. If you can really play, you don't need a gourmet mouthpiece or 3,000 dollar horn.
@@jeffcraven7376 I have a tenor trombone and use a Benge 6 1/2 AL
@@crollinsphoto I got a Bach 6 1/2 AL for my birthday in 1974 and when my highschool band director heard me on that in stage band, he had me go back to my 12C. The 6 1/2 is a good mouth piece , but wasn't for me; the results I heard myself on cassette tape. My favorite trombone is my totally restored N.Y. Bach Stradivarius Model 6, built in 1935, but when and if I start to play again, the Bach 12C mouth piece is the best for me.
@@jeffcraven7376 Mercy. When I got my trombone it came with a 12C and when I got accepted into the university music program, the trombone instructor said "we have to get rid of that and get yourself a Benge 6 1/2 AL, it will fit your lips better". I should have maybe stuck with the 12C. I still practice now and then. My favorite is my King 25th. Anniversary Silver Sonic 3B with F attachment. Here I am 61 now and wanting to play again hahaha. I'll be lucky to do an arpeggio.
Question, I'm an adult male, I bought a student trumpet, mouth piece is smaller than the one you have in this video. Does it matter? I can't blow it right for nothing, makes me want to wrap my trumpet around a tree, help
Placement and embouchure are a bit different for trumpet since they have a smaller mouth piece. You should try and look for a video about the trumpet mouthpiece if you haven't already :P
i was never able to play the trumpet, because i cannot tuck my lips tight enough to hit the proper notes, my instructor put me on trombone and it has been great! if you havent had luck, maybe try a trombone, or baritone
Do you buzz your lips or do you just blow?
Buzz for sure! You can practice buzzing your lips then adding on the mouthpiece. You'll feel the added resistance when you add the mouthpiece, but just keep blowing the air!
What mouthpiece is that?
Read the title!!!!!

Who me?
The sound dictates the posture of the face and tongue. Attempting to calibrate what the sub-conscious mind can so so much better ultimately will result in focal dystonia.
