I was diagnosed April 2021 with Alpha Gal-Syndrone AGS it has been overwhelming and challenging for me when nobody understands what I'm going through with this life threatening meat allergy and deprivities to all mammals my Lone Star Tick bite occurred in Fayetteville Tennessee USA🇺🇸
Thank you. Great presentation. I did not see a mention of carrageenan which also triggers the AG response. I have had AGS for at least 4 years now and was seeing a GI clinic for stomach disorders. Nothing was helping. The clinic got a new nurse practitioner who, with my first visit to her, ran tests to confirm AGS. Now that I know, my symptoms are radically better. My speculation is that this disease has been around significantly longer than 2006, but we are finally making some of the connections to identify and diagnose. I also feel it goes well beyond just the lone star tick. Finally, it is extremely important to realize that people have a VERY wide range of reactions. Think of it like bee stings, for some, there is very little reaction and for others, it is life threatening. Everyone is different, which makes diagnosis even harder. Some can enjoy dairy and others can’t. Hopefully science will find a mechanism to prevent the AG response before it happens. Stay safe.
Thank you Doctor. oh if you have time could you please update those video on antibiotics, or if you know where is a good review as yet complehensive in all antibiotics , antifungus , or even antivirus .

No. It is not safe. Depending on how severe alpha gal is per person, as someone who has it super severe I would die if I had milk or yogurt. with without an EpiPen and or medical help quickly
I have been diagnosed previously but recent blood test was less then the .10 marker yet my IGE to pork was 3.5 times the recommended level and beef was twice the level. This test was run due to my having a reaction to pork ribs. Should I go by my IGE or my Apha gal marker?
Unilateral (i.e. just one side) pulmonary fibrosis is rare, but can happen. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis usually affects both lungs to a similar extent.
Because it was only discovered in 2006.Depending on when you did your training, it might have just been too new. As a recent grad MD, we learned about this in either my first or second year of med school.
@@wasnt.here.3853 thank goodness, this is great to hear. I was lucky and diagnosed in like 2 months but apparently the average is something like 7 years.
With all due respect, the medical field is forever expanding. Just because it's not in a book, at the time you learned, does not mean it doesn't exist. It's arrogant to think that you know everything just because you did schooling in that specific field. The universe is barely understood, there's much more out there than we will know in a lifetime.
It is not just red meat!!! Quit saying red meat! It is pork, lamb, elk, venison…anything that walks on four legs AND IT’s BY PRODUCTS…like toothpaste, clothes, furniture, soaps, lotions, as well as medicines and medical devices!
The term "red meat" may have slightly different definitions depending on whether the context is agricultural, culinary, or medical. However pork is definitely red meat in all 3. And in medical contexts, "red meat" is generally considered synonymous with mammalian muscle tissue. As far as I know, the only remotely commonly eaten mammal that is considered white meat in culinary contexts is rabbit, and even then, rabbit is not consumed in most parts of the US. (I recall seeing it on a restaurant menu a grand total of 1 time, in Virginia). I do agree that bioprosthetic heart valves and things like the use of mammalian derived extracellular matrix in medical products are a problem for people with alpha gal. But the vast majority of medical devices are not an issue.
@@StrongMed you are wrong. Gelcaps , gelatin, animal derrived glycerine, lanolin, leather, wool, fur coats, etc. can cause anaphylaxis in us Alpha Gal people. My worst, almost fatal reaction was from butter just prior to diagnosis.
@@wildwoodnaturescapes How precisely am I wrong? From the video transcript regarding gelatin and gelcaps: "Gelatin is also a potential problem. Although serious reactions to gelatin in alpha gal syndrome are relatively uncommon, gelatin is in so many different things that it can be challenging to totally avoid for people. Even medication capsules often include gelatin as a so-called inactive ingredient. Notably though, most gelatin allergies are not related to alpha gal." Regarding dairy (e.g. butter): "A minority of patients will also get a reaction to dairy in addition to conventional meat." (the percentage of 10-33% is shown on screen) Regarding leather, wool, and fur, I didn't comment on those either way, but I will say that I am unable to locate any conventional medical reference (e.g. peer reviewed literature) that suggests likely risk from contact with these items. If you happen to know of such a reference, I'd be happy to read it and pin a comment addressing it.
Was just diagnosed yesterday with this. This explains so much in why I have been feeling the way I have been feeling.
I have this. Had it for a long while. Crazy a tick bite changed my life
Quite good. Thank you. Carrageenan should have been presented as well. It is found in a lot of food products.

Doctor, Is milk and milk products like yogurt, curd from mammals ( cow milk, Buffalo milk ) safe for those with alpha gal syndrome ?
No. It is not safe. Depending on how severe alpha gal is per person, as someone who has it super severe I would die if I had milk or yogurt. with without an EpiPen and or medical help quickly

I'm sorry, I can't give specific, individualized medical advice here. I recommend speaking to your physician about your test results.
Have it, new to me, Omaha NE, life changing!
I have question does idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis damaged both of lungs ?

0:40 pun intended 😂
I am from India ( southern part ), I am allergic to red meat but how the tick is found in US!
There are tick species in other parts of the world that can trigger this. It isn't limited to the Lone Star Tick.
@@StrongMed Oo okay 👍
Thumbs up

Good news for cannibals who have been bitten by Amblyomma americanum - looks like meat's back on the menu boys! Human, the other red meat.
