Ensuring the genitals are fully embalmed

- In this video embalmer/mortician Tracy tackles the sensitive topic of ensuring the genitals are embalmed - if you massage the rest of the body to circulate the blood and make way for the embalming fluid do you have to massage the private parts too? And does embalming the penis cause an erection?
As usual, Tracy explains clearly how a complete embalm is ensured, in an honest and respectful manner - you'll probably be happy to know there is no graphic imagery to accompany this video.
We have received a few questions on this topic so we hope this gives you the info needed to put your mind to rest.
If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to send them in, although please be aware that we have many comments and questions to answer and while we are working through them, it may take us some time to get to yours. But we do enjoy and look forward to hearing from you.
Until next time folks,
Take care & stay safe,
T&T xx

I love the way you say respect and dignity of the body. That's all families want!!!!!!
And its what I would want for my family or friends too 💜
how did I get here....................?
We don't know 🤷♀️
😂😅😂
Me either but it’s good to know
I don’t mean to be inappropriate, how would this evening be a concerned, considering the body is clothed 😳😳😳
We must be wierd.
Thank you for this video. It gives me peace of mind. My father had been through so much sickness in the end and knowing the respect for the body is still there in death helps my mind heal.
Thank you for your kind words.
And we both send you our best wishes 🙏💚💚
Hi lovely ladies. Delicate question answered tastefully and dignified. I hope the poor mother who lost her son can find closure and comfort from this video knowing that her son was treated with dignity and respect.
Well done ladies, love your work ❤️
Thanks lovely, and yes we heard from her and it helped with the closure so thats all that really matters 💜
@@Areyoudyingtoknow I’m glad to hear that it has helped her with her closure. Thank you for the update x
🤗❤️
Thanks for answering Mom's question. Im sorry for her loss of such a young man. 😢
It is very sad, thank you 🤗💚💚
That's a question I never would have thought of. I've learned something.
The question was handled well
🤗💚💚
Great information, tactfully described, something I have never thought about before. Respectful and dignified. Thanks girls x
Thank you 🤗💚💚
You two really destigmatize the process. That's invaluable to grieving families and friends. Thank you. I hope this gives that grieving momma some peace. ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words. Mum said it was very helpful ❤️❤️
Fascinating to hear the process. Plus it’s a relief to understand how this is carried out respectfully. Thank you
Thank you Pam, take good care 🤗💚💚
Never a question I would have thought of! But I have to commend you two for how you approached the subject and responded to the comments. I'm sure that your thoughtful responses mean the world to the mum who asked and those who perhaps don't feel able to ask these questions themselves. Not that I've come to expect anything less, of course, but I wanted to ensure you heard it.
Thank you, we appreciate that xx
I really appreciate how these.. often unstated questions a lot people (not necessarily verbally…) wonder about, are answered so professionally by Tracy. Death is such a touchy subject in and of itself… thank you so much for being able to share this info with us, and doing it in such a respectful way. ❤
Thank you so much for your very kind words 🩷🩷
Such a lovely lady doing the embalming. Interesting professional. I think you have to be very strong mentally for this type of work.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes some days are a lot hard than others, I do have lots of support around me. Take care 😊💚
Well this was very informative and I had never thought about it. I assumed when you inject the embalming fluid that it would go through all arteries and veins and I never thought about having to massage the tissue and muscles as well as injecting smaller areas separately. I can understand the mother’s thoughts about how her son was handled in the funeral home and the need to know everything. I hope this put her mind to ease. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks xx
Thank you for this information. I love watching you ladies, always so educational. Also thank you to the people who ask the questions I would not think of. So much more process involvement in everything than I ever imagined.
💜
love watching you guys record these informational videos. I’m trying my best to become a morticians assistant and these have really helped me start the process of what I want to do career wise. Oh my word!! Again so well explained wonderful ladies hope you are both well ❤️❤️

Hello ladies! I have to admit, like Trish, I did not know that.
I meant to tell you, going down the RUclips rabbit hole the other night, I was shocked to actually come across a video that showed parts of a body prep and embalm. It included closing the eyes and mouth, incising, locating and raising the vessels, placing the tubes in the vessels and a bit of the cavity work. It was fascinating to watch.
Hi Dave, nice to hear from you! Yes, there are vids that show it all - we have an ethical issue in doing this and in my situation, its not appropriate to ask most people who are grieving if we can show their loved one on YT. Still, we understand totally that people want to see this - it's fascinating!
@@Areyoudyingtoknow Of course, I agree. I was just surprised that RUclips allowed it. They are so squeamish with certain things. But, I guess as long as it is considered "educational", they allow it. Hope you two ladies are well! Hugs from the U.S.
We are well thank you David ☺️ hope you and your family are too 🤗💚💚
T& T, you both handled these questions with modesty, respect and dignity.Tracy, I love how you always strive for excellence.Trish, I love this color of your hair.Looks beautiful.Thx to both of you!😉🌷🌷🌅

I never thought of this prior. I heard the opening line, and here we are 😂 love this channel ladies! Thank you for sharing your knowledge Tracy.

Thank you so much in responding to the sensitive questions! It was very interesting and respectful!!!!
You are very welcome 🤗💚💚
I forgot to tell you. I appreciate your wisdom and kind words last year when my husband passed ❤️🐩
Oh that's so lovely of you to say.
Hope you are doing well 🙏🥰♥️♥️
Hi ladies, love your videos. Always handled in a very sensitive and professional manner. Its best to be open and honest in all aspects of this amazing profession to demystify certain myths ! My Grandmother was a Funeral Director in the 60's and 70's. Things must have been done very differently back then ?!
Much love from the UK 🇬🇧 xXx
Very very different! 🤔
Excellent, T&T! An important topic to discuss, just like every other aspect of embalming and mortuary care. It shouldn’t be a taboo subject - as Tracy said, penises and vaginal areas are all just part of the human anatomy. If I needed embalming, I wouldn’t want willy rot to set in! Anyway, breakfast time here, so I’ll get back to my sausages. 😂
😉 hope you enjoy your breakfast 🤣💚💚
Willy rot!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😅
Lmao 😂😂😂
@Colin_Richard OMG! I can't stop laughing. Enjoy your breakfast. 🤣🤣🤣
Very respectfully answered. If you listened closely when a body is being repatriated the genital area will decompose quickly if not properly embalmed.
Not a single video comes or goes without me thinking to myself "What absolutely beautiful women these two are!!"
Oh wow that's so very kind of you. Thank you so very much 🥰❤️❤️
Hello you two sweethearts! Once again a very informative video. With having worked in a funeral home, people would ask me different questions with this subject being one of the questions. Your channel is so wonderful. It takes the questions answered and with great professionalism and dignity. Again another great video. Take care and God bless.👍🙏🏻❤
Thank you so much for your kind words as always 😚❤️❤️
Thank you for your honesty ,, I did ask the same question some time ago , as my grand mother was embalmed she was a very modest person ,, and I often wondered about that area
Yes, its all done with great dignity xx
I'll admit I've never thought of this. Thanks for blowing my mind
You're welcome💕
I’d never have even thought about that question, but I found it really fascinating. I just assumed the fluid would just automatically fill up everywhere inside the body 😂 Here in the U.K. embalming is not the norm so I find it to be a weird thing to do to a body. I’m not sure I’d want to be embalmed 🤔 Thank you both for your videos & being so sensitive when answering. It must be very reassuring for those who are going through this process with their deceased loved ones.
Hi, we don't want to be embalmed either.
Yes you are right the fluid does go through the whole arterial system but often some areas of the body do not receive enough fluid to preserve as long as the other parts of the body that did receive enough. Theses areas are often the genital, feet, hands, fingers, nose, eyes and ears. This is were we need to do hypodermic work to add the extras fluid it didn't receive originally and especially the pressure point where the body has contacted with the table. So yes it's a long process but we don't what to sent someone home for a week and find out a few days later the body is starting to smell bad because we didn't bother injecting that foot that did not receive enough fluid so has started to decompose even though the rest of the body looks great.
Thank you for your question take care 😊💚
Put it in your will don't embalm
@@fatonyalmitchell3281you can also pay for your funeral costs ahead of time, it could even be cheaper as funeral related costs are rising over the years. If you pay for everything yourself ahead of time it can help prevent any additional inputs.
This is so fantastic to know! I'll be starting my BS in January, and your channel as well as Order of the Good Death are great preparers

Are the outer parts of the ears including the ear lobes difficult to embalm? I don’t think of those areas having much blood flow either.
I am once again impressed with Tracy’s professionalism when talking about such a difficult subject.
Thanks Toni, might answer earlobe Q in a vid 😘
Yay! I can hardly wait.
Never entered my mind. Not really interested with this particular area, but the title caught my curiosity.
Hello, ladies. ❤ You're Always so kind while explaining all the details. My condolences to the Mother that lost her son.
This definitely makes me NOT want to be embalmed. Very good to know that it is all done internally. Thank you for the information as this ensures an accurate decision can be made! How else could the information be known? I'm thinking aquamation. It seems less invasive & better for the environment. Good choice for me.❤ Take care of yourselves & much Love sent your way.
Not for a long long time yet buddy, but good call 🙂💜
My son had a autopsy first before funeral home. But when I went to pay for funeral I saw my Son already casket the day before funeral.Shouldn’t he have been in refrigerations to preserve the body for viewing? By the end of service he was turning black, why? There gnats around him in the casket, why? I also thought there was smell about him also.So needless to say I was very upset that maybe he was not closed correctly during the embalming and smell from stuff used was escaping? Why turning black.I decided not to stand directly in front of casket at viewing, because I was afraid others would notice the smell and turning color. What went wrong? Thank you for reading this and answering.
This is so interesting thanks for the upload ladies.
Thanks for watching David 🤗💚💚

Great question, answered appropriately thankyou ladies, I’d never thought of that question.
Thank you Pamela, take good care 💚💚
I’ve noticed every female embalmed body I’ve seen, the chest looks completely flat. Why is that?
Hi Natalie, oh wow not to sure. It could be that when we lay back gravity pulls everything down so maybe it is that the Embalmer has not noticed after dressing the deseased (especially if no bra has been give to dress in) that the chest area has fallen to the sides. Thank you for your question take care 😊💚
Y’all are too much…in the beginning, you guys always talk about how y’all look. No worries, you’re both beautiful and are always informative. 😉
You're the best! Thanks Missy 😘💚💚
I have a question. I live in a relatively small town where most people know each other, or about each other. The funeral home often has to work on family and people they know. Have you had a case come to you where you personally know the person you had to work on?
Hi Alison, I have unfortunately, many times 😔 Thank you for your question take care 🤗💚💚
al, good question. I knew the answer will be yes. I would have been scare, nervous to have to do that kind of work on someone i have known.
Hi Ladies hope your well thanks for this new video :) can i ask Tracey were you from in geordie land ? i lived close in south shields many moons ago
Hi, thank you for your kind words ☺️
I am from Stanley Co Durham and when I was a kid in the late 70's South Shields was a holiday destination for us from Stanley 😉. Take care 🤗💚💚
No to embalming for me or mine, i didn't know you had a choice when my dad died, and it wasn't offered to us, so he was embalmed sadly, on seeing this added to the bill, when we hadn't had a choice at arrangement, i knew if they didn't ask us in future, i would ask them and decline it, sometimes there's a need for it obviously but not for my parent's, my dad was buried in 9 days of dying, my mum was buried in 8 days of dying, and the only difference was my embalmed dad was rigid, my mum wasn't, which in a way was more upsetting despite us not wanting her embalmed because it was like she was asleep when i lifted her hand soft and movable, unlike my dads which was like stone, but still no embalming for me on my death just in a box and then burnt asap, and all undertakers if theres a choice to embalming then make sure its offered, for some its unnecessary so don't shy away from upsetting discussions.
Sorry to hear 😔
There is no need to embalm everyone at all. Here in Australia we don't do too many embalms only if family requests, if going home for a period of time, going into an above ground vault, culture reasons or if flying to another country. Take care 💚💚.
People say it's a weird topic for a video. I think it's weird that I myself never thought of those parts, taking the body as a 'whole'. You embalm the person and that's it. Yes, there's obviously more to it than that, but it's the small things, no pun intended that go without thought. Hope that's not too rambling and made sense. Have a good week x
Very true and it's amazing that after all this time i still mention things that Trish says I have never mentioned before... It's all in a days work to me. 💜
She’s there to plump you up!! ✌🏼💜
She's there to do her job. 😊
And first again. Love your episodes.

So…I’m still not clear on why the mom was asking in reference to her deceased son? I mean, everyone grieves differently and to lose a child is unthinkable. But why was she concerned about the son’s penis? Was she wanting to know that his body was handled respectfully?
Hi, yes she has message us
It was all about wanting to know that her son would have be cared for with respect and dignity and she so distraught she need to process everything in her head to cope with the loss 😔 it's so very sad.
Take care 💚
So no happy endings? Bummer
After listening to embalming, cutting, lifting out arteries, putting metal clips in the jaws, etc. I do not think I would want my loved one to be embalmed. Just let my loved one rest in peace, not hack up her body. just my feeling
And there are non-embalming funerary practices. There's a plethora of options.
Hi we don't hack bodies as you say. It all done professionally and carefully. You don't have to be embalmed just make sure your family and friends know your wishes. ❤️
Thanks ladies as a Man this is Educational but kinda Funny. You ladies need a comedy series. OUCH.

That answers the age old question !
Yes, they are happy to see you !
👍😳
😁
answering a question many would be embarrassed to ask
Can you choose not to be embalmed and how fast would you need to be buried, thank you
In Australia you can definitely choose not to be - as long as you are buried in a week to 9-10 days and kept in cold storage it should be ok - all depends on the circumstances around death though. ♥️
I believe I just had a little shrinkage!
Sorry Charlie 🫣
Thanks again for a great video ! ❤
Your welcome 🤗 thank you for watching 🤗💚💚
It's a body. Everywhere has bacteria that contribute to decomp. It's totally clinical, and well handled ladies!
Thanks 👍
Very interesting ladies, but is that actually necessary?
The vid? We did it to help a mum of a young lad who was killed gain closure as she had been tortured by thoughts of what would have been done to her son, so yes, we thought it was justified :) and if you mean the 'is the process necessary" absolutely. If any part of the body is left with inadequate embalming it will, of course, decompose as normal, making the body smell terribly and there will be liquid and a whole mess for the viewing or service. Thanks for watching deview :) xx
@@Areyoudyingtoknow thank you for enlightening me. I never knew this was such an important step. Thank you so much

This is fascinating. I worked in mortuaries back in the 1980s, and we never had an issue with the genital areas. We didn't cauterize either. Is this something new?
Hi, no nothing new been around for a long time. Even written in the Embalming textbook from many many years ago. Take care ❤️
Is embalming done just so that there can be a viewing? Also, if embalming is not possible is the sealed casket required only so you can have services w/o the decomposing odor?
Hi here in Queensland Australia we don't do many embalm's it's not always necessary. We do plenty of viewing without any embalming taken place. If the body is badly decomposed we can still embalm and this will get rid of the smell so the service can go ahead without the worries of any odours accruing. Thank you for your question take care 🙂❤️
@@Areyoudyingtoknow Just asking cause my little brother was found dead in his appt, I'm pretty sure he'd been there at least a couple of days.
I wasn't shy about asking the funeral director questions about coloring, blood pooling and such. He basically said embalming wasn't an option and we needed a sealed casket.
These videos are very interesting and informative.
Glad to hear that! Thank you 🤗❤️❤️
Wow! This was never even something that I thought about for.

Does bring me to a question that is off topic. What happens when someone has chosen cremation, but might have had breast reconstruction & now has prosthetic implants or as those that don’t understand the procedure would refer to them “implants”? Let’s just say for the purpose of this question the individual has high cohesive gel prosthetic implants vs saline prosthetic implants. Would both styles be safe for cremation or would the high cohesive gel need to be removed?
Hi, we never removed any kinds of breast implants all safe for creamtion. ❤️❤️
If a person has been autopsied , the pathologist makes a “y” incision and removes the organs ie. lungs heart stomach etc. After the pathologist sews up the corpse. Does this make embalming difficult?
Hi, yes it makes it very difficult as we no longer have a closed intact circulation system. We have done video on this before hopefully you may come across that one in our back catalogue. ❤️❤️
what happened if the family prevents embalming.... any way where does that blood goes down the drain...
Yes down the drain, it's the same waste we flush down our toilets. Bloody, urine, faeces, and anything else that goes down there. Take care ❤️
And to think that you 🤔 were so worried about getting a colonoscopy!🤣
😉
I really cannot believe somebody really asked that question 😩🤣
Hey Tiffany, thanks for your comment. 💜
In conjunction with applying overnight arterial packs or perservative gels.
👍 yip 😊
Otherwise it will rot and fall off?
After autopsy and organs are put in the cavity in a bag, then the cavity is injected with embalming fluid does the bag get injected as well?
Hi Pam, the organs are embalmed separately in a container full of embalming fluid while the rest of the body is been embalmed (this is only autopsy cases) then the organs are placed into a clean bag and sealed back into the cavity, no injection of the bag. Take care 💚💚
I'm not being embalmed, so I'm not going to go through all this. Your choice!
Of cause it's your choice 💚
My question is my husband passed away 5 years ago from cancer he had lymphedema in his arms really bad and they were swollen at the funeral home his arms and hands were still swollen did they remove the fluid from his arms and hands before embalming him thank you
So very sorry for your loss 😞 sending you our deepest condolences 🌹🌹
It's very difficult to remove all the fluid from the body especially with lymphedema. Some fluid would have drained but not enough to see the difference. The embalmer would have done there best to try and clear as much fluid as possible. Hope you are doing well sending you our best wishes, take good care 💚💚
I found it quite an interesting question..after all the penis is a part of the body...and if it helps a grieving parent then thats great 😊 ..this is afterall an educational process..if you dont ask you'll never know 😊 hi trish and tracy 🖐❤ xx
Thanks Michelle xx
The girl with the glasses, she’s very beautiful
That is very kind of you to say, thank you 💚
Hello Ladies Thank u for ur videos ❤❤
Our pleasure! Thank you for watching, take care 🤗💚💚
This may be a really stupid question, but if the body is in the casket and only half of the body is exposed for viewing, why bother with embalming the penis if it’s not even going to be seen? 🤔
Not a stupid question. The reason the whole body needs to be thoroughly embalmed is because, if we were to leave any areas un-embalmed these areas will start to decompose and smell bad. Embalming is to preserve and sanitise the whole body not just parts. Thank you for your question take care 😊💚
May I ask, do you have to be embalmed? As, this thought to me, makes me feel uneasy. I’m not even sure why it does. I think it’s because I have it in my head that I want eveything to be very simple and cheap when I die. I wouldn’t want an oak coffin or anything like that as I want to be cremated. So I wouldn’t want extra cost involved with being embalmed etc.
Hi, no you do not have to be embalmed and you can certainly have a low cost service without the expense coffins or casket. I am opting for the cardboard box cheap. Here in Queensland Australia we don't embalm everyone, in fact 90% of my preparation are not embalmed. There is really no need to embalm everyone. So definitely make your family aware you don't want to be embalmed. Hope that helps take care 🤗💚💚
im just wondering isnt most bodies for viewing half of the coffen is close the upper half is open why miss with the lower half of the body imbolming is just for looks instant it
Hi, no Embalming isn't just for looks it is to also preserve the body for viewing. If any part of the body was not embalmed thoroughly theses areas would start to decompose making the embalming of the body pointless. Thank you for your question take care 😊💚
Who is looking down there anyway
No one, but if Embalming is needed then it has to be done throughout the whole body otherwise any part not treated will decompose.
Take care.
Can i ask dose everyone get embalmed? Just 2 weeks ago Mums funeral and i noticed i could still see vien marks on her arms? every other person usually look like snow white>
Hi, here in Queensland Australia we hardly embalm anyone most of our preparation are un-embalmed. This is a difficult question to answer so sorry, as I don't know where in the world you are and if it would be standard practise at the funeral home you used. ❤️❤️
