    Not sure why the commentators were acting like Nikishin was actually trying to sell that as him being pushed, he pretty clearly was just mocking what he thought Pereira was doing.

      "Dangerous, violent, or vindictive action." An immediate red card -- point against the offender. He was penalized for pushing away the Spaniard. Had he done the flop earlier in the bout, it would've been another red card for dishonest fencing, but since the bout was over with the 15th touch, it didn't matter....although it WAS a dick move.

      Fencing is a non contact combat sport. Body to body contact is not allowed. The idea is that by “flopping” you’ll make your opponent get a card, enough cards and you’re kicked from the bout and sometimes even the event altogether.

    Me as a HEMA fencer: ‘all I see is solid close range options’
    For real tho, why does this count as a foul? Unless you start punching with the cup to the face or throwing kicks or punches to the body, the gear should protect you.

    • @custer3176
      @custer3176 2 года назад +28

      because it's unsportsmanlike. And if that was allowed, where do we put the line? Fencing has no weight-divisions, so if those kinds of options were allowed, the bigger guys could just make the match really ugly. How do you think koki kano would do against yannick borel if pushing and other similar physical actions were allowed?

    • @chopstick1671
      @chopstick1671 2 года назад +10

      @@custer3176 shoving, pushing and such things are allowed in HEMA fencing (which doesn’t have weight divisions either), it’s just part of the game; I get that fencing is not swordfighting, but I see it as a good punishment for coming in close. Bigger, stronger people don’t necessarily win up close like that either tbh, its an advantage sure, but then again, going for a push or shove does leave you exposed to bladework...

    • @custer3176
      @custer3176 2 года назад +6

      @@chopstick1671 Go search kano vs borel and tell me if it would be a good idea to allow shoves and pushes. And it's still unsportsmanlike. And a good punishment? How is it a good and fair punishment if it gives an unreal advantage to the bigger guy?

    • @chopstick1671
      @chopstick1671 2 года назад +5

      @@custer3176 I looked them up, and their size different isn’t that much; Borel is 1,96 m and Kano is 1,73 m.
      I am 1,93 m; and have fought 1,60 m people that managed to get me with shoves, pushes, pushing the weapon arm, etc. It’s not so much about size and power as it’s about ‘going for it first while the opponent is unprepared’.
      I dunno why it would be inherently unsportsmanlike, of course then if the rules forbid it, it’s breaking the rules, that’s true; but pushing and shoving is a valid tactic I’d say if allowed. It stops the situations like this where they’re just doing weird stuff because they are too close, and within hand-to-hand range.
      And again, it doesn’t give an unfair advantage to the bigger guy; by the logic of fairness, the bigger guy should have a decreased target area against smaller opponents, because smaller people are harder to hit... yet that would be ridiculous right?

    • @custer3176
      @custer3176 2 года назад +1

      @@chopstick1671 well yes but bigger guys also have the the reach so that balances it out. But making something allowed that clearly favours a certain type of body type would be dumb, in my opinion. And its also not really about height but weight and size. Borel weighs 30 kg more than kano. Kano getting physical with borel would be dangerous for him. I also don't know about you but i think infighting situations are really fun to watch when done well. I think allowing pushing and shoving would just allow more violent way to fence that is not really needed.
