  • This episode aired on ABC’s Australian Story in February 2006.
Australian Story follows the Rush family as they navigate the Indonesian prison system, and try to understand how their son became one of the ‘Bali 9’.
20-year-old Scott Rush was sentenced to life for attempting to smuggle more than 8kg of heroin into Australia from Bali.
Rush, who had never been overseas prior, was one of the youngest of the ‘Bali 9’ drug mules arrested at Denpasar airport in April 2005 with heroin strapped to their bodies.
Earlier, his parents made desperate efforts to notify Australian Federal Police to stop their son going to Bali.
And the police have been criticised for working with the Indonesians and exposing nine Australians to the death penalty.
