Very well put Aris. "You can win an entire tournament with 5 moves". He is absolutely right. Movement, range, pressure, mixups, punishment, defensive consistency, and practice = tekken
You are legit the best teacher. So much information related so quickly. A lot of tutorials assume the watcher/listener is an idiot. Really appreciate the straight talk.
MIND. BLOWN. I've been playing for a while now & this sht has never occured to me. Its so simple but incredibly effective. I've been trying commit many combo strings to muscle memory but honestly this is what in-game tutorials should be teaching.
Fantastic explanation. I always viewed the simply jabs and basic low kicks as useless since they don't do enough damage to be worth the risk. Tying it together with movement and other follow ups make them very useful it seems. Just like footsies in MKX.
It's 2024, and Tekken 8 is my first real fighting game. This guide is amazingly helpful and very relevant to me even today 9 years after this video was uploaded. Thank you past Aris 🫡
Thanks a lot for this, actually. I've been trying to play this game seriously for about a year now but this never occurred to me, I just tried to get a feel for it on my own. This is extremely helpful.
wow wow wow... THIS is what my tekken has been lacking, i know the combos, i know the pokes but yet i really struggle against my friend who barely does any training or watches any guides or knows good combos. Coming from SF background i've sort of had this illusion that i have a proper strategy like fishing counter hits with bryan etc. but i haven't really factored in the movement which is huge in this game and it makes sense.
i really admire the consistency of tekken. tag 2 tutorials are still relevant, while other games like street fighter don't even feel like street fighter anymore.
I just spent the last three hours watching vidoes on your channel. I am in tears. There is not a single person on this planet who can explain the concept of this games half as good. I am in tears. I don't know what to say.
I understood the importance of movement in Tekken as it is a 3D fighting game but this explanation really nailed home in terms of strategic perspective. Kudos! Stay in the fight guys.
And yet, it is relatively safe. Most launchers are blockable at 13 frames, with the exception of a couple hopkicks. Most punishment there is still going to be heavy poke, rather than launchers. And this is for new players, to give them a way to start building an offense, while giving information about frame data. Because that shit is intimidating as fuck, if you are looking at it for the first time without a clue.
For a player who hasn't played Tekken since Tekken 3, thank you. Extremely insightful video, opened my eyes. Each character having over 70 moves was very confusing. I realized I have to just play the same character for hours, weeks likely, before I even begin understanding how everything flows. It doesn't help that my hands aren't used to the speed of buffering.
dude......you just made me connect the dots to this games which i never undertsood,i cannot thank you enough!!!,the whole down back dash basic maneuver just made it so much simpler to me.i just got tekken 7 and i know some means to defend myself against other player like my friends, again thank you for the tips. :D
Nice. I noticed movement is important on my own, (which is called learning I guess.) by trial and error. You see, when I button mashed, I noticed that my enemy was blocking more efficiently then I was and punished me severely by initiating a combo when I went into attack mode all the time. I just did one thing: back off. Did a little back step. Ducked. And then went to lash out again. MOVEMENT is important in this game! I like it how you can sidestep. It's a very accessible game, but deeper then it looks on the outside. Love it. Thanks again for the tip!
Thank you! I've always been intimidated to buy this game because I never though I'd be able to master the basics and get to at least amateur level. Gonna buy the game now and practice my ass off.
Thank you very much for a great tutorial Aris! I have been playing Tekken for years and this video has reminded me of the basics of fundamentals. I will try simplifying my style of play and hopefully I will see improvement!
bornoftherods Melee is a lot more dependant on movement than Tekken. But one of the biggest challenges in Melee is transitioning from neutral game to punish game because of opponent DI. Where as in Tekken combo strings are always connect when executed properly once you get your hit confirm. Coming from Melee I can appreciate how I only have to worry about my own excution during my combo string in Tekken.
Dude! You've explained to me in minutes what my friends have been trying to do in years! I just subbed, going to go through your videos. Keep up the good work.
This is exactly what i needed man thanks. Been watching Tekken for some weeks now and finally got the game today. You were awesome at EVO funny af. Have a good one.
I'm so glad I stumbled onto your channel, if you could split the play list into begginers intermediate would be much appreciated, haven't played since Tekken 4 on PS2 when I was a kid, these tutorials have really helped!
I haven't played a Tekken game since 3 and now that all my friends are buying 7 I'm thinking of joining them, so this video really helped me get back into things.
Pretty interesting and nice things to consider. Very well put video. The only thing I have to say, if people are looking for stuff like this, they probably don't know what -13 and such is.
Hey, its been years since you made this video but I'd like to thank you for making this. I was intimidated with how many combos and moves there were, and I'm a beginner at fighting games, but this video inspired me to take it one step at a time with Tekken. I might practice and "strategize" some more instead of dropping this game completely. P.S Love your beard :)
Just wanted to stop by and say thanks I have been trying to learn tekken teg 2 for about a month now... once I started applying these basics I was able to find some much better combos and learned how to better move my character. Now I think that I am ready to start trying out some new characters for later...I was playing Kunimitsu Arcade while watching some of these tutorials they really helped me out all the way to the boss. Random Question, why do A. Ogre and Jun Kazama always hold onto the last pixel of life for what seems like an eternity? Thanks again for help with my basics.
So I decided to get into Tekken 7 after playing 2D games for so long and the most overwhelming thing for me was that I never truly understood what the hell is actually going on in front of me. They you explained it makes SO much sense in 2D mind. I feel like this alone makes me understand what's actually happening on screen way more.
Hey man, thank you for making this tutorial. I wanted to get into a little medium/higher end tekken and i'm starting from the very basics. Love the vid, great tutorial and very glad you made it :) so cheers from the Netherlands
you just earned a new sub and also you helped me a lot because i'm a street fighter/kof player and i nvr played tekken before, so what you just explain to me was so clear and understandable it open my mind to all the possibilities within the game, so i must say thank you for helping out a noobie like me. 👌
Such a nice video i just bought tekken and not knowing anything of the game and now i know at least something what to do instead of smashing some buttons really nice video for me!
Very awesome video man. Never been huge on Tekken. It's fun but 8 way fighters are crazy sometimes. This video imo could really help. Now that I see this I understand that people did this to me and I saw how that rewarded them.
What an excellent video. It's hard for a master to break things down for laymen, but you've done it perfectly. Thanks man. Man Aris sounds so passionate about teaching folks here, the years of gormless stoners haven't caught up to him yet.

How did he change?

this still applies to tekken 8, thank you aris
this was an incredibly useful perspective for an absolute beginner. thanks
I've been looking far and wide for an explanation like this to understand the meat of Tekken. Thank you.
Very well put Aris. "You can win an entire tournament with 5 moves". He is absolutely right.
Movement, range, pressure, mixups, punishment, defensive consistency, and practice = tekken
Jack players just need 2 or 3.
Boooom, hop kick city !
My mom!
This single video got me to understand how to play tekken

This is actually the most useful Tekken tutorial I have ever seen. This is amazing.
Good job Aris. The more T7 players - the better!
This dude is like a school teacher for Tekken!
so true
i am a noob at this game, and I like the way he is teaching
He looks like teacher from Hogwarts
Aris, hearing your soliloquy at the end, regarding what makes this game so fun, almost brought a tear to my eye. Play on playa.

Why is John Cena not playing this game?
he only knows 4
he is.
you just can't see him.
because wrestling is fake?,just maybe.

This video deserves to go into a Tekken hall of fame somewhere, it's so great and informative. Aris really outdid himself.

it is because they are playing solo. Solo characters have more life then 2 tag characters.
