I am Ashanti same as kofi siriboe. My Gold Ring fell down from the safest place i put it.because i was about to critique this video when i first saw it, but my brother really did a good job with the depression topic cos it's killing our people of late.
You couldn't have said it better. I seem to always have that conflicting moment in my mind where I want to die, but because I have children who need me, I also have a reason to live. To me, a scale represents depression. The up and down with more and less weight over and over represents the pain one moment, then joy the next. But sadly, there never seems to be any even weight a.k.a balance of emotions.
@@sadetucker2094 I am not sure there is a balance. Just be where you are when you are there with no judgment of yourself or where you are supposed to be! Hope you're well
The silence around mental health, especially in the Black community has to stop. A lot of us are, "dying inside, but looking fearless outside." Courage is TALKING. STRENGTH is ASKING FOR HELP. Thank you for this.
Re-watch it. It breaks it down in the start on the film. The little girl is real; she was killed by the train. He was there when it happened & now it haunts him. He is constantly seeing her because he feels he should join her out of guilt that he let her die. So she is a spirit essentially. The relation to her was that she was his little sister is what I gather.
It seems like the little girl represents his negative thoughts vs his Uncle who represents his positive thoughts, which saved him in the end with "God's got you. "
i saw an interview where he mentioned a friend going through a terrible depression after losing a sibling. I think the girl might be the negative feelings, and a not to lost loved ones.
Trisha Giscombe She was a loved one that was killed by accident by the train. Now visually & mentally it haunt him. Her leading him to the bridge is representation of guilt that he should join her as if that’s what she would want. The uncle & girl are his support systems which is why the voice stopped him from jumping.
That always comes to my mind when I'm trying to pull myself out of a depressive episode. Every single time I hear those words, and this is way before I've ever saw this video.
Disturbingly beautiful...visually powerful. Going through the motions of life while the closest people to you don’t truly know that you’re drowning. Please seek help if you need it 💜
I've sunken into the heaviest depression imaginable ever since a few weeks ago. I've dealt with depression my whole life, but recently takes the cake. My heart has been heavier than I ever thought possible, weighing down my spirit, and sinking my emotions into a lair of despair. I'm having a beautiful child, but the father decided to leave after I wanted to split up. He hasn't made me feel special, loved, or valued, but it's no cause for me to end the life of my unborn child as a way to leave the father behind, because my baby deserves life, and is indeed a life. It's tough when you've been through great pain, only to live year after year going through more. It makes you want to end it all in efforts to escape that pain. To silence the loudness of life. It's tough, but I believe I can achieve peace in due time....🙏🏾💙
The visual is more mental then we think. We all have problems, Let's find a way to cope and save one another. Thank you!!!! Kofi Siriboe for the bravery.
Kofi! - Thank you for putting this powerful message into film! A conversation that needs to be had more often. Pay attention to those around you. Learn to see the unseen, sit in silence, be still, and LISTEN.
💯 Isn't it sad, yet amazing that everyone who deals with depression all seem to be able to say those words to each other, and know exactly what it all means??
This is a gem! Every scene has wonderful cinematic elements from warm/cool contrasting lighting, duality of pain and pleasure, wonderful NYC locations, the relationships are on point and more....Keep building!
Loved everyone involved in this. I remember when the first call went out to submit for this got posted on Instagram. I wanted to submit my story but was too afraid. Glad the film turned out wonderful :-).
Hi Tristian- Just noticed your comment and was lead by God to say, share your story! Often times we don’t think our story is interesting, but we never know who it may touch, or who life we may influence positively. As they say, nothing bets a failure but a try. So Jump, God got you! Be blessed! 💪🏾😃👍🏽😃
can young adults text too? please consider a service for humans across all ages your work is beautifully moving. i need this, we need this, the whole world over and back again. thank you 🙏🏽
FUCKING AMAZING KOFI !! Im glad you are still creating even outside of the big screen and television. Thank you for inspiring other black men like me. Would love to be in something like this. 🙌🏾
This was so real and impacting. I felt all of it and at the end when I heard the words 'God's got you ' my eyes filled with tears because if I know nothing else I truly believe that. If you or a loved one is going through this I encourage you to seek help. Pass this along to everyone!
Wow... definitely relatable. Interesting to see something like this especially since mental health is considered almost taboo in the black community. I hope to see more content such as this!- Maybe a follow up, something more in-depth about the aftermath of what you must do once you talk yourself "down from the ledge" so to speak. We need more authentic + vulnerable content like this.People can't imagine what they have never experienced, and that's why this film is so key. Also, happy to see Chelsea Tavares starred in this!
I don't want to live...I don't want to die. Depression put into 10 words.
Exactly what I was thinking!! This was powerful !
Precisely.

Exactly! And maybe these thoughts were represented as a young, innocent child because to take that jump seems easy, peaceful, and enticing.

Nicole Brooks...it’s crazy you pretty much summed up how I feel
Ljlew find a safe space for you. Seek help! Don’t suffer alone 🙏🏾
It also goes to show how important it is for all of us to check in on our friends and loved ones and to listen to them, even if our feelings are hurt.
This had me in tears. So many layers and we rarely get to see the isolation of mental illness through the eyes of a man, especially a black man.

"I'm having people over later... Everybody wants to see you." *What no one wants to hear while eyeballs deep into a depressive episode.*
This is so deep and powerful. Not only is this beautifully made, but it's also helping a lot of people.

This is deep, I really didn't know if he was gonna jump or not. glad he didn't
It doesn´t show if he jumps or not. Maybe he did, maybe he didn´t. I think they left it open for a reason.
I'm glad I didn't read this comment before watching , lol.
This is a gem! Every scene has wonderful cinematic elements from warm/cool contrasting lighting, duality of pain and pleasure, wonderful NYC locations, the relationships are on point and more....Keep building!
