No way man! It goes back to the oldest pinball machines. I think the whole design is amazing. I wish I had a good place to put something like that. My arcade is in what used to be a garage and the floor is not level
This Neo-Puritanism has to stop. Hot chicks on your pinball machine is GOOD. It used to be part of the standard furniture of an arcade. I'm at the point now where I want to tell all the anti-fun weirdos to go stuff it.
The sculpts in this game are better than any other. That’s the best thing going for it, no flat boring plastics. The art is fine too. People should relax.
6:44, shout out to Todd Tuckey! Looking forward to seeing you next week in Schaumburg. If you're feeling social, you'll have to hang with everyone at the fireplace at night. Aside from this game, there will be some FunHouse remakes and likely more. Pro tip that will not apply because I'm leaving this post, you may be able to buy the machines used at Expo. I may make a run at FunHouse LE remake. Lastly, hoping to get more play time on the reimagined Eight Ball Deluxe.
Oh man I want this so much, it would fit perfectly between my Labyrinth and (upcoming) Avatar, another fantasy world to lose myself in! I'm so glad you and your wife remember those comics! I used to collect (and review) comics a lot back when those ones were popular so that's exactly what I thought of when I saw the artwork on this machine. I just wish they were making enough to go around! And the timing sucked, as I just put my deposit down for Avatar CE and it's going to be tough saving up to pay that off, let alone a second machine. Oh well, at least I can just wander off into the woods following a rabbit and eat some wild mushrooms to get my Wonderland fix...
If that isn’t the most bad ass side art. It’s all a historic in pinball. I grew up with Bally tables in the 70’s and 80’s and there were boobs and nips. That was part of the draw for a young man. Nothing wrong with great art PDub. I’m right with you. 🖖🏼
THis thing looks nuts. WHen I saw the pictures I thought it looked pretty freakin sweet! This would look so nice next to your Labyrinth. I knew it would sell out.
To each their own when it comes to pinball art. I think there’s less of an issue when it comes to characters like Elvira, where her style and image have always leaned into that campy, exaggerated aesthetic. But with a character like Alice, it’s understandable for people to be a bit shocked, especially since she’s traditionally depicted as a young girl. I don’t think it’s the worst thing… but I do think elements like the tear in her dress feel unnecessary. I noticed they avoided putting that side panel in their trailer. Likely for a reason 😅 However I recognize I’m not Dutch’s target audience, as I don’t have the funds to buy this game, and Alice in Wonderland isn’t really my thing. That said, I can understand why people aren’t fans of the art. While the artwork may be reminiscent of older pinball machines that featured more exaggerated depictions of women, most of the games mentioned in defense of this style are not from modern times (minus Elvira). I can see that Dutch Pinball was going for that retro look, but it’s just not for me.🤷🏽♀️
@@erikaspinballjourney lol that side panel does tow the line a bit with that dress tear lol 😂 - as I said in the video I wanted to hear both sides of this equation in the comments and thank you for sharing. Will I be seeing you at Expo?
I love the art. I wish i could afford to buy one. It looks way cooler than I would have expected for the theme. As for the women....hell yes! I grew up in the 80's....'nuff said 😂
This one looks good! But I kinda forgot about it after the evil dead pinball machine announcement and trailer by spooky! That looks super awesome as well!
Hey Pdubs! Great video. Regarding the sexualized designs...seriously, this is how pin-up and pinball artwork used to be. I don't get why people are so sensitive. It's just art. Jessica Rabbit...I mean come on....this is nothing. I love it!
I am hoping my custom made pinball will sell out when ever I get my machine done. Still have no cab done but I do have most of the boards wired up and getting more parts for the machine. I need to get the cab built so I can put things in the cab. xD
I mean, it would be better if todd mcfarland did the art, but it looks amazing to me. Maybe sometime down the line I could get one. I hope this company keeps doing this!
No issue with the artwork or the spin on the theme, although initially was anticipating/hoping for a Disney/classical type approach. The dancing women on my dad's 1960's Old King Cole table were more enticing than these two ladies with frowns on their faces. I was more troubled by the cat treatment on the topper as I love cats, but will live with it. I have no bias against JPOP since I only got into pinball history in the last year, his tables are beautiful ,and this is probably the last JPOP inspired table we will ever get. Order has been placed.
Not controversial at all. If you are part of the collector base (20-25%) that is a tournament player and only cares about 'beating the game' then you will not be excited by 'Alice'. If you are part of the collector base that buys games for 'world under glass' and/or looks at pinball machines as art then you will love this game. The only thing controversial about the game is price. If Alice is priced in the Stern Premium/JJP LE area it's on your radar, if it's priced at Stern Pro territory then it's a must buy.
J Scott Cambell knows how to draw sexy women for sure! I have a signed print from him of Spider-Man and MJ (and MJ is just....wow!!!) I could see that having worked too. Some of these Pinball companies (looking at you Stern and you're X-men table...) should really consider reaching out to some of the more prominent comic artists to get them to do the art for a table, even if it's a limited edition version (although this one being only 500 made is already pretty limited)
I spent years clamoring for this to come to fruition. And now I'm passing and it has zero to do with the art but everything to do with annoying voice call outs and quite honestly I don't see anything that justifies the asking price. IMHO the only thing awesome about this pin is in fact all the artwork (external and internal)
I think you completely missed the point. Alice is a minor in my mind and in the publics mind. Now you can say oh this is a different interpretation of that story. No, you can't. You only get one shot at a first impression. I love boobies. EHOH is amazing, but i must admit i felt a little creepy looking at this game.
@@joshgrube84 Appreciate the discussion. I would disagree that you "can't say this is a different interpretation of that story" because that has happened so many times due to the Age of the Story over the last 100 years. Quick example Films such as "Malice in Wonderland", and "Alice in Murderland" all have an older Alice in her 20's, etc. In my opinion the Alice shown on this Pinball Artwork looks to be around 30 years old. Now, if they drew a very young looking child Alice dressed that way I think all of us would be creeped out. Again. Art is subjective and new interpretations on this original story have happened time and again in book, film, comics, video games, etc over the years and will continue to happen long after you and I are gone.
@@PDubsArcadeLoft oh yeah, definitely. I get you can say that, or whatever you want. It's just that I think that's why it's controversial.
