Howrah To Mumbai Chennai & Puri Now In Few Hours By Indian Railways Super Fast Bullet Train Alike

  • There is a saying that the Bengali means to go around - 'di-pu-da'! That is Digha-Puri-Darjeeling. And this time it will not take much time to go to Jagannath Dham Puri. You can reach Srikshetra in just 4 hours. Surprisingly, the Ministry of Railways is taking such a decision. The Ministry of Railways has decided to launch high speed trains from Howrah to Mumbai, Chennai and Puri.
    The concerned zones have also been directed by Indian Railways to start preparations for this. The maximum speed of high speed train will be 160 kilometers per hour. This train will run on 6 routes of the country. So this time you can reach Puri in just 4 hours. On the other hand, it takes 14 hours by train from Howrah to Mumbai. It will take 13 hours to travel from Howrah to Chennai. According to railway sources, this time it will take a high speed train with a speed of 160 kmph.Railways is preparing to run high speed trains on 6 routes of the country. Of these, 3 route trains will run from Howrah station. According to Indian Railway sources, separate tracks and racks will be made on each route for high speed trains. According to railway sources, the high-speed train on the Howrah-Mumbai route will cover 1,975 kilometers. While the Duronto Express now takes about 28 hours to reach Mumbai, the high-speed train will take about 14 hours.
    The high-speed train will cover 1,852 km on the Howrah-Chennai route. Now it takes about 28 hours to reach Chennai. The time on high speed train will be reduced to about 13 hours. The distance from Howrah to Puri is about 502 kilometers. Shatabdi Express takes about 6 and a half hours. Puri can be reached in about four hours by high speed train.
    Suitable racks, tracks and special signaling systems are being made for high speed trains. The survey report is expected to be submitted to each zone within the next two months. Bullet train to High speed train India is growing fast.

West Bengal is far behind than BJP ruled as well as non-bjp rules states. Tamilnadu is also a non bjp state like Bengal but economically tamilnadu is much more advanced than Bengal. So the problem is the current government of Bengal...if TMC can lift Bengal's economy then I don't have any problem to support TMC.....I just want development of Bengal like Tamilnadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, and UP

    I think a 160 kph train is termed as semi-high speed and not high speed. Great info though. A quicker commute between Kolkata Mumbai and Chennai is good news.

    It's really great. Indian Railways must try to run semi high speed trains on all important routes ASAP. If a person can reach Delhi from Howrah/Sealdah in 10 hrs, Mumbai in 15 hrs, it would be very good news for rail commuters. Hopefully this can be achieved soon.

    Everything will depend upon fare structure. Hope railway will take care about fare structure. It shouldn't be astronomical high or too economic. A rational fare structure is needed to make the upgraded routes a suucessful one.

    Totally wrong and miss information , trying yo make fool people. Railway has informed maximum speed limit will be 160kmph against present speed limit of 110 kmph.So at 160kmph speed limit average speed will be 110-120 kmph maximum. Now you can calculate the travel time.Don't divide total distance by 160 km to find out travel time. With present 110 kmph maximum speed limit average speed is 60-70 kmph..

      Free cylinder, free food to 80cr people over and above rations, free power to farmers, free mobile to students, free money (INR 6000) to farmers, subsidized insurance, subsidized bulbs are just few of many "schemes" by the Centre. Then there are dozens of subsidies and freebies by BJP run State Government. Are you living in la-la land to think BJP does not focus on subsidies? BJP goes even one step further; they indirectly subsidize price for national assets when then sell it to big businessmen.
      Talk about infrastructure - Central Government focuses on road/rail on BJP run States first and does a lot of publicity for it. Look at the state of national highway in West Bengal. One word - pathetic.

    This information is optimistic however in the immediate future this is not going to happen. Yes first priority is Delhi howrah and Delhi Mumbai route for semi high speed rail. That itself is taking so much time. All other routes after that.

    Even howrah digha duranto was discontinued as folks didn't pay high ac class fee and loves to go by 100 rs fare. So these trains with high fee will not have even 60 pct occupancy on average days.. may be viable unless economic situation of East Indian improve

      If there can be not one but TWO Rajdhanis to Delhi, one Shatabdi each to Ranchi, Siliguri/NJP and Puri (not running post-COVID), in addition to multiple Durantos and Humsafars to multiple cities across India - all Premium Trains... Then what's the problem with Digha AC Express? Two things needed:
      1. WB Govt. must make Digha into a Premium Tourist Destination (and not the Goreeber Goa as it is now).
      2. MOST IMPORTANT - Bengalees have to learn to stop being Kanjoos-Makkhichoos, and learn to spend money... Beshirbhaag Bangali Holo HAAR-KIPTE, Ei Kiptemi jotodin na jaabe, totodin Mushkil aachhe kono improvement howa. Oidike 400 taka diye ek plate Biriyani ba 200 taka diye ekta Fish Cutlet khete kono problem hoyna eder...

      As for the 2nd point, majority of the good quality biriyanis are available under 150 and not 400 which is mentioned by you.
      Second pt is that AC buses run from various local areas to Digha by pvt operators which also cost less than Duronto express. A person living in Kudghat in south or Sinthee in north can directly take the AC bus from their own locality rather than coming to Howrah station

      @@SoumyaChowdhury24081995 It's not meant to cater general people from Kudghat or Sinthee or Barasat or Baruipur and other suburbs. It's for the more affluent people living in and around Central & South Central Kolkata, plus people traveling by train (AC) to Howrah from elsewhere (eg: North Bengal/Delhi/abroad... anywhere). Such kind of plush services are particularly necessary to pamper the affluent class (good business idea) to come and unwind themselves in destinations across Bengal like Digha (following up my point no.1).
      The idea is to cater to a premium/upmarket clientele and make Bengal a favorable destination - just the way states across India like Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Tamil Nadu etc. have been successfully able to do (Why look so farther away? Even Odisha is doing it now!). Affluent people bring in big business to the local small entrepreneurs/businessmen, and most importantly they DO NOT look for 100-150 rupees roadside Biriyanis. It's now or never to Learn to Think BEYOND catering to the typical Jabor-Jeebon Goreeb (as taught by our communist ancestors, that we all have happily by-hearted).

      @@uglyindian4401 You did not get the point. It is not about theoritical terms like communism, capitalism. The point of discussion is why the Duronto Express to Digha failed.
      1. You mentioned about suburban areas. The AC buses to Digha are available from all the localities of kolkata and suburb which also include posh areas like Golf Green , Tollygunge , Salt Lake etc
      2 . The Rs 400 which are you taking about is avialble probably in JW, ITC and those taste like shit. The best quality biriyanis are availble in Mughlai resturants at cheaper rate and people of all categories visit there.
      Let us leave the biriyani aside, now the question is why a person would travel in train for a short distance. Rather they can book a car for such trips
      3. In other destinations, duronto resches faster than other trains. But in digha, duronto used to take the same 3.5 hrs like tamralipta or Howrah - Digha SF.
      Now why would someone play extra charges when the time taken is same .
      4. The timing of the train was in evening which dont match the hotel checkout time.
      5. The other AC trains to Delhi and other destination is mostly used by middle class because the length of the journey is long.
      For North Bengal, train journey and bus run parallel since it is also a long journey.. Luxury bus services like Shyamoli , athiana are also used by many people
      The higher class people usually takes a flight to Delhi and Baghdogra for the same

      @@SoumyaChowdhury24081995 I got all your points completely... and there are few things you may need to reconsider slightly:
      1. First of all, the debate was about a Duronto (later converted to Shatabdi) train from Howrah to Digha. Howrah is a major transit hub, and lot of people from elsewhere should be facilitated with seamless semi-high speed comfortable train service from Howrah itself, without having to board a bus. I have nothing against the AC buses available from across the city's fringes - which is a good thing, and must increase in the days to come.
      3. This is a critical point, a tad bit disappointment rather... Duronto (later converted to Shatabdi) train from Howrah to Digha and back took slightly above 3 hours compared to 3 and half hours compared to other trains. Still that was too much I would agree. Had the train taken something like 2.5 hours, it would have been good. South Eastern Railways should have prioritized this train under its Mission Raftaar (many trains running at 130kmph+ speed in Santragachhi - Kharagpur section now); now we are poised to have trains running at 160kmph on this route in the days to come (as per the video above), plus upgrading the speed of the Mecheda - Digha section (to atleast 110kmph), we can easily have a Howrah - Digha (or even Howrah - Haldia) trains covering the distance within 2-2.5 hours. SER must consider this to get better ridership of such trains. TIME is MONEY.
      4. HWH-Digha Super AC Express (no. 12847) departed Howrah at 11:10 AM and reached Digha at 2:20 PM (not bad for check in/lunch hours), while the return train (12848) left Digha at 3.30 PM (perfect for post lunch/checkout hours) and reached Howrah back at 6:40 PM (These are all Pre-COVID timings). I don't see how the timings of this train were a problem on your aspect (nonetheless, should have taken much lesser time).
      5. If you are not updated already, Indian Railway picture has been changing rapidly to attend to the more affluent class as well - as an alternative to flight travel. But you may not have realized this because Bengal has not received any good High Speed train/Luxurious train of late (under the Modi Govt rule), hence you are relying on the age old service that Eastern & South Eastern Railways has been catering to people of Bengal. Now there are trains like Vande Bharat (Train 18) or Tejas Express among others (ZERO till now for Bengal as of today) which are running across the country, providing alternate transport options - both in terms of Comfort & Speed (at fares lower than Airfare).
      Delhi - Kanpur Varanasi Vande Bharat, Delhi - Ludhiana - Jammu - Katra Vande Bharat, Mumbai - Goa Tejas, Mumbai - Ahmedabad Tejas, Chennai - Madurai Tejas... are among all such trains running on short distances ALREADY COVERED BY BOTH LUXURY AC BUSES as well as Ordinary Day Trains (as well as FLIGHTS). Plus there are several other trains eg: Gatimaan Express on Delhi - Agra - Jhansi route (again short distance covered by MORE Luxury AC Buses than any route of West Bengal). Since Digha (or even the fast growing industrial town of Haldia) cannot afford flight services, I see no reason why it should not get at least a Semi-High speed train service (unless Digha fails to shed its image of Goreeber Goa)!
      Now imagine Digha becomes good enough, such that someone from say Delhi wants to visit Digha with family. Instead of flights, many people may prefer Rajdhani (and I am not talking about filthy 3rd AC - that is for the standard middle class, I mean AC First Class or at least AC 2 Tier). After reaching Howrah by 10 AM, if we can facilitate a similar Semi-High speed train at 11 AM to Digha, that will reach by 1.30-2 PM seamlessly, I see no harm done!

      And regarding North Bengal, please don't tell me about Bus services from Kolkata, not for like another 3-4 years. Right now, even the fastest commute will take at least 16 hours, thanks to a NEVER-ENDING NH 34 construction... Everything in Bengal still seems to be in "Cholchhe Cholbe" Mode, long after the CPIM have been ousted. Also, Flights are no longer for higher class, that's a theory you need to shed out of your head IMMEDIATELY! I use flights at least 6-7 times a year, are you calling me HIGHER CLASS??? 🤣🤣🤣
      2. Your comments about ITC/JW clearly says you have NEVER entered into the premises of such properties! Had you done so (and yes, I have - in one of them), you opinion would have changed. I have nothing against 100 rupee roadside Biriyani or people eating it. All I am saying is, Digha bound Duronto/Shatabdi is NOT For Them! They can continue to use Tamralipta/Pahari-Bihari trains or local private buses to reach Digha. This is a free country, and everyone has their space, and I respect that...
      Speaking about Digha, yes, even I have been to Digha twice (only, sorry) but both times by personal vehicle. Even today, if I have to go to Digha, I'd rather prefer to drive with my friends (with a crate of chilled beer in the trunk)! But I am not talking about me, I am talking about the NEED FOR UPLIFTMENT OF PEOPLE IN BENGAL in General....

    কলকাতায় যে নিউ এয়ারপোর্ট তৈরি করার ভাবনা চিন্তা নিয়েছে কল্যাণী নয় ভাঙ্গরে তে ওই জায়গায় না করে হাওড়া হুগলির মধ্যে নিউ এয়ারপোর্ট তৈরি করলে খুব ভালো হতো এমনি ও কলকাতার মধ্যে খুব যানজট বেশি হয়ে যাচ্ছে কার উপর দিয়ে ব্রিজের সংখ্যা অনেক কম হুগলি নদীর উপর দিয়ে জানিনা সরকার কি ভাবনা চিন্তা নিচ্ছে

    আজ্ঞে না। ট্রেন 18 আসছে ঠিকই এবং এই ট্রেন গুলো ট্রায়াল রানে 180kmph অতিক্রম করেছে ঠিকই, কিন্তু হাওড়া চেন্নাই রুট ও হাওড়া মুম্বাই রুটের সর্বাধিক গতি 130 kmph অব্দি রাখা হবে, যা আজকের দিনে কিছু কিছু সেকশনে 110 kmph। এই ট্রেন গুলোর বিশেষত যে এগুলো তাড়াতাড়ি গতি বাড়াতে ও কমাতে পারে করুন এগুলো মাল্টিপেল ইউনিট ট্রেন। কিন্তু শুধু উচ্চ গতির ট্রেন থাকলে তো হবে না, বাকি পরিকাঠামোও দেখতে হবে। তাই জার্নির অ্যাভারেজ গতি একটু বাড়লেও সেটাতে খুব বড়ো কিছু তফাৎ হবে না। যদি হাওড়া দিল্লী বা দিল্লী মুম্বাইয়ের মতো 160 kmph এ ট্র্যাক আপগ্রেড করে তাহলে আলাদা ব্যাপার।

    In other northern and westerns states, already high speed and semi high speed trains started running years ago and bullet train is also about to roll very soon between Mumbai & Delhi,, Delhi Mumbai 8 Lane Expressway also under construction .. but in Bengal Centre will never invest or implement any infrastructural growth only some fake promises ..Until big investments are coming in Bengal ..... another issue for the land acquisition which is a big hurdle and state govt will not cooperate in this regard.. without land no infrastructure or no big industries ...
