  • This is my 1958 VW Beetle on a 1971 VW Beetle chassis and a 2005 Subaru Forester EJ25 sohc DBW engine. After 3 years and around 15,000 miles I figured I would do a updated walk around video. The car has been great! Always starts up on the first try and virtually no maintenance. Hope you all enjoy the video and the build itself. If anyone has any question ask away and ill try to help out in what ever way I can.
If you would like to see all the build pictures I have them posted on the Facebook page for everyone to checkout. Just click on the link provided.

    Thanks and Enjoy!!!!!!

Just subscribed. That's beyond amazing. Picking up a donor this coming up weekend with the 2.2 and getting the entire car running with title for $600. Good enough start for my '58 beetle. Started building a 1641 for it but my heart is with tbe Subi swap. Love what you did!

WHAT A CLEAN BUILD. I love that you made everything so simple in the back. No imitions crap just the basics. I'm curious how was the wiring. I know that's where most people struggle?

    • @--SubaruSwapVWBeetle
      @--SubaruSwapVWBeetle  3 года назад

Thanks! I tried to make it clean and simple and I was very happy how it turned out. As far as the wiring I'm a electrician for a living. I started back in the day doing car audio and still do alot of 12v car stuff. So the wiring was easy for me. I'm just about 90% done with the wiring on the car so when I finish it I'll make a video of the final product.

    • @--SubaruSwapVWBeetle
      @--SubaruSwapVWBeetle  2 года назад

The radiator does work. I have shrouded the entire radiator since this video. It helped alot with the cooling. I also swapped out the eBay fan for the stock Subaru fan which moves about double the air.

I'm doing the same swap on my 1960, are there any big things I need to watch out for when dropping in the Subaru engine? I'm new to the concept of the Subaru swap and would appreciate any pointers! Thanks, and the car looks awesome!

    • @--SubaruSwapVWBeetle

Thanks! And Not much to the build. The biggest pointer I have is if you're not electrical savvy send the ECU harness out and have it done. other than that its basic mechanics. Follow my build and you'll be good! Any questions just ask! 😎👍🏻

    • @--SubaruSwapVWBeetle

No problems unless its high 90s outside. And when it's that hot out the fan runs constantly. But otherwise it's fine. I will be building a shrouding to direct the air better. I'll post a video when I do.

Is it possible to do this as a fully automatic vehicle with the same/similar engine?

    • @--SubaruSwapVWBeetle
      @--SubaruSwapVWBeetle  3 года назад

I suppose you could do it with an automatic beetle but the transmissions in those were not very strong. Subarugears just came out with an automatic reverse transmission. But I read that is not adaptable to a beetle but it could be if you wanted to do major modifications. If you ask me the only way to do it is with a manual transmission unless you just want to do a bunch of work🤷🏻‍♂️
