Nice project but one little hint of advice. I (and you should ) decide to run an expantion tank Never run it lower than the highist point of your radiator. So if you are going to run one place it in the front with the top of the tank at the same level as the top of your rad. Never lower. you are asking for big trouble if you run a expantion tank in the rear with your rad at 3 inches above the engine , which is right whre it should be. Looking good.

Wow! Engine detail looks awesome ! Can’t wait to hear that great Subie deep exhaust note , i think they have one of the best sounds to them and as a longtime fan of Aircooled or Classic VWs the two together makes one heck of a cool car / Vehicle ! i’m hoping to do a Vanagon sometime of course if funding is really good i’d prefer to do a older aircooled bus but it’s hard to predict my dream would be to have a Vintage Bus with the power to drive today’s highway speeds with included accessories like AC and a few other luxuries

Hey Mike! I’m working on doing the same swap in a 70 bug. Waiting on the harness to come back and a pile of other parts. Did you cut out the left and right trays completely? Also, I’ve been scouring the net on how to make the apron removable. I’ve already got mine off and it’s got probably an inch of bondo in it😂.. gonna replace the whole apron but trying to figure out the best way to make it removable. Sweet build man! Thanks.

  • @iiedwinii

Awesome build. Wondering what happens when you don't connect any of the vacuum lines for emissions? Will the ECU care if it doesn't see any feedback from sensors etc?

Hi mate...looks good how did you go wiring up from ECU out to accessories etc...obviously u didn't have a subaru body loom. I don't mean where the engine loom plugs into ECU I mean the pins that normally go to body loom...im in the process of putting an ej20 into a seadoo boat ha ha!! I would imagine most of the pins won't be needed or at the very least they can be bypassed?

    • @--SubaruSwapVWBeetle

I dont see why not. All the 4cyl subi engines are all about the same size. The DOHC engine might take a lil more modification tho.

I'm just getting around to seeing your video. Awesome work. Now that this video is about 3 years old can you tell me how your Auto Zone axles held up? I'm knuckle deep in a 72 Super Beetle build and I know I probably need new axles that can hold up to the 300+ hp engine I intend to put in. If yours are holding up to the Subi power they may be what I'm looking for.
