I love the question of “was Thorfinn there?” at Einar’s hometown when they were both children. (I’m ninety-nine percent sure the answer is No. And it’s also impossible for it to have been the second attack if I’m correct)
The reason the idea is interesting to me is that it’s another father that Thorfinn contributed to taking away by going to war as a child.
I think the fact that it’s never answered means that it’s the more the concept that matters and moves the message of the show across, not necessarily the specific moments and catalysts that we ourselves view in the show(even though highlights are highlights for a reason lol)

Yeah, I also hoüpe it is never answered, but it does set their relationshsip up very well (as did the other eps of course). =)

Btw the term for when a slave buys their own freedom is called manumission. Rare, but more common over in Europe than it was later in the Americas.
Edit: Lmao "hai" is a polite way of saying yes or acknowledging or agreeing. The reason the subtitles are adding "Yes, sir" is because in Japanese this context would be understood you're acknowledging a superior or elder's command or like statement or request. In translations what people do is contextualize these things into English, so those contextual pickups that would be pre-understood in japanese by the situation, are conveyed into english so instead of just "yes" or "okay" which could seem impolite and casual, they add "sir" to emphasize that they're saying this word in a polite and respectful way.
Edit2: No they're not serfs. Serfs are peasants tied to farmland owned by knights or the royals in return they get protection and keep some of their food production. Like I sorta mentioned in my previous video's comment, social relations =/= mode of production. Serfs could be compared to slaves, but they don't have a market they're bond to their lord's land. Serfdom is closer to the social relationships with productions some workers have today than slaves. Although some workers in the 20th and 21st century had poorer conditions than serfs, especially in the industrial revolution.
Edit3: A sheath on the back is historically inaccurate for uh all of human history I know of. It's a fictional thing, and Vinland saga is just poking fun at that lol. The only time historically you carry a sword on your back is for transportation, meanwhile your knife or actually sword is on your hip. Just think about the physics, it's impossible unless you have some odd curved sword and sheathe design, or if it's tilted to the side like Attack on Titan. Orrrr if it's like a tiny sword but then why would it be on ur back lol

Honestly I think you’ll find Olmar to have the best character progression this season.

I love Einar, he's like a big goofy dog while Thorfinn used to be like a psychotic Chihuahua.

When you were talking about cutting wood it brought to mind a Japanese movie that I saw. It's name is Evil Does Not Exist (2023). I gave it a 4/5 but you are a bit more intelligent than me so maybe you will get more out of it.

That thing on the horse is called a Yoke in English. Sounds pretty close 😄.
