My goal for a while has been to spend at least 1hr/day on something CCNA related, on most days that turns out to be 2-3 hrs once I get started, but, on days when I am just too wiped out or brain fried to jump into new material, I like that I can come here and watch a video or two on some material I have already looked at from other sources. It's great review and I always get a new twist or perspective on the material, and I can meet my goal in a way that feels more like entertainment than work. I have said for a long time that I don't expect anyone to "really" learn something in a first exposure, but there has to be a first in order for there to be a 2nd, 3rd and 4th, and this helps with that. Thank you
Oh man, the whole reason I clicked on this was never addressed. The binary. I recall it being elegant how the first 3 bits in the diff serv field instructed the last 5 bits (something like that), and was hoping to find a refresher, and NO BITS WERE MENTIONED. 🤔😉. Either, thanks mass for all of your time and enthusiasm, Keith (I definitely got many good laughs out of the video).
Thank you, just got done reading about QoS in My v2 CCNA book, I was looking for someone to explain it better, and you did ! when I get home from work tomorrow I have to reread that chapter !!
Thanks for the video since I was struggling for some time about QoS. QoS is widely used in our company for VOIP packets and therefore, understanding , troubleshooting them is critical for WAN related issues. I have quick question... How does WAN optimizers which are located at network edge are going to honor the CoS marking example would be Riverbed devices... It is fine to speak about Cisco devcies but how does Riverbed devices are going to relay the CoS marking to next device (edge router) - the question can be considered silly but my understanding from this class is that it should be defined at every device along the path of the packet... I don't think Riverbed has provision for CoS markings. Hence, my question... Edge router honoring the CoS marking, with no marking of packets from Riverbed....
Thank you for the question. I am not a Riverbed expert, but did a little searching and found this regarding QoS and their product. support.riverbed.com/bin/support/static/93kli6tqn0ba7e2jgml3kq1u18/html/lgt7cniu50bti6qdc3drn177ql/sh_9.1_dg_html/index.html#page/sh_9.1_dg/qos.08.02.html Hope that helps, and thanks for watching.
QoS has been one of the most difficult topics for me. The level of details you approached the examples made it easy to grasp. Thanks for such a great content!
at 3:50 after he mentions the great strategy, reminded me of what J Peterson has also said in the past, start small, but keep going.. even if you only do 1 hour a day of training, do 1 hours of good training, but also consider the accumulative event of each week, think about it.. 1 hour a day literally everyday.. that's 365 hours a year on something that you could be becoming great at! but also have the discipline to do 1 hours a day very day for a year..
Thsi was a good session and i like and learned alot. As a network engineer my job is 90% or more pratical. So I like the info but I want to see an example in the CLI on how to implement what a trainer is talking about. It really annoys me who so many just yap on for so long but do show the pratical side of what they're talking about to connect the dots for the learner. You have a good topology on screen, how comes you dont have it as a lab and talk about a subjet then show how to configure it.
apart from access ports or internal interfaces, is any policy applied to uplink ports? for example - uplink port on switch1, switch2 (towards firewall)?
He he it's nice to see you were finding hard to use the right word for people, critical.. Non critical.. Keith, you are down to earth😊 I guess you can take the example of an ambulance, like people give way when the siren is on😁
Hey Keith, it's Gerald. I had to pause your video to write a thank you for this. You're great at presenting information and teaching it to us. And it also helps to do spaced frequent reviews on all material. Wendell Odom even said that in one of his CCNA books it just dawned on me how valuable it is. Your content sir is invaluable. Thank you so very much.
Hi 👋 Kith could you let me know what type of drawing ✍️ tablet is the best for this type of video , or which one do you usually use? Appreciate your help
Thank you for the question Karwan Saed. I use a Wacom 22" tablet, that lets me write on top of the screen. Some examples are in the Keith Barker Amazon Affiliate Store www.amazon.com/shop/keithbarker
Thank you for the question Ozdemir Asaf. I use a combination of tools, including Corel Painter, MS PowerPoint, and my Epic-Pen to write on the screens.
Man I've never met a subject that kills me more than QOS ,I'm not sure I want to know this ,I'm having my exam on 16th of may ,but the way it looks I'm already ready to fail ,took odoms books to read, and I got stuck on chapter one with questions on TCP/IP lol ,unreal ,after all the labs and studies I still don't know jacksh**t :D :D
Thank you for the question Just Myself ツ. When implementing QoS with Per Hop Behavior (PHB), if there is a bottleneck and any device in the path doesn't provide preferential treatment, there is a negative impact.
easiest way to translate on specifical traffic is . going to the club, people comes with VIP Tag no need to queue but normal IC/driving license holders without VIP card need to queue. 😄. And Thank you Keith . . always happy to learn from your lessons.
Hi Keith , i am studying to take the Encor exam and i have been reading the book Encor 350-401 , there are some topics that are confusing actually i did not understand nothing about the QoS, after watched your video i understood more than read the book a thousand of times, Thank you so Much !!!!! After read it i must to subscribe the CBT nuggets to help me. You are AWESOME !!!!!!!
Honestly I think Keith Barker is the best trainer. I signed up to CBT Nuggets just to see his content. I like the other trainers but honestly Keith's way of training is top notch. I never seen any other trainers teach ipv6 like the way Keith does. Network Chuck is awesome too.
Keith you made me cry. Watching you enthusiastically describe components of QOS just reminded me of the old days. I was a networking guy (backbone engineer) in the early 2000s, dealing with frame-relay, atm, qos, bgp isis, ospf, mpls and edge services like firewall, LB, proxy and so on....this days people might say I'm doing fine as a cooperate security guy. I truly miss those days of just being an engineer. Sadly this days due to automation plus point and click I've met some people who know where to click but can't describe the internal workings or structure of a packet or protocol. Thumbs up, I really love your infectious enthusiasm for the subject.
On a QoS session, he couldnt control talking about DNS, Subnetting, data encapsulation. So much to talk.and so much of energy..Keith, you are such an amazing guy....may god bless you and give you more strength and positivity in days to come.
A very useful QoS info with your special way in teaching, It helped me a lot in filling the gaps of the QoS knowledge despite the tech vendor I use Cisco or another, the concepts remain the same .. Thank you Keith and as always loved the room style around you :) .. Greetings from Yemen
Keith your personality is so great for teaching. Your mannerisms crack me up and help me remember different tidbits because of how comical it is. @16:18 when you're imitating voip delay, I'm dying 🤣
Hello Keith Thanks for your another awesome lesson I was wondering if you could tell me what is the name of the application that you are using for diagrams. Thanks again
Thank you for the question Mohammad Reza Hosseini. I use Corel Painter, and Epic Pen to write on top of the illustration. The graphic (design) was drawn by my daughter.
Hey Keith, Where can i find your video for QOS Mechanisms ???? can you please let me know that for the new ccna how many topics from the QOS are there in the new syllabus ??? Please let me know cuz i am liking your videos aloottttt....
Thank you Jarvis. There are a couple of sections of the blueprint that refer to QoS. Download the free blueprint from Cisco and take a look. Here is the link www.cisco.com/c/dam/en_us/training-events/le31/le46/cln/marketing/exam-topics/200-301-CCNA.pdf
Hello Keith, Few years back I saw some 10 series videos of your on Qos which gave me an indepth knowledge of Qos.. Not able to get those now.... where can i get that videos? Thanks and Regards, Vikas G
Hello Vikas. I don't recall if those were on RUclips, or part of another course I created for a specific company. Not sure those older videos are still available.
Hello Keith, First of all thank you sir...your video helps us to understand the concept in depth... :) You make everything look so simple... Thank you very much Sir.. Yes sir...they were part of RUclips videos...and I saved it in my youtube gallery but later it showed me that the videos are removed due to copyright issue and I can no longer view it now... Really missed those videos... That were the first videos I watched on networking and wanted to save it forever...but I don't find it now.. Thanks and Regards, Vikas G
Woah Keith! This was awesome. Tons and tons of information just in one hour. Very thankful for this video, it's much easier to see how this works in your video as I've struggled understanding it from the book. Can I possibly suggest a Kahoot quiz for QoS? It would really help me see where i'm at on understanding this and i'm sure others would see it as beneficial.
Thank you for the question Amadou. The playlist is 30 videos and growing, and will assist in learning many of the topics in CCNA, but it isn't intended to be an exhaustive coverage of all the topics. You would also want to do hands on practice (Packet Tracer) is a great option there. The blueprint is available from Cisco regarding all the exam topics they may test on. learningnetwork.cisco.com/community/certifications/ccna-cert/ccna-exam/exam-topics Happy studies.
Thank you Umang for the suggestion. Currently I am focusing most of my RUclips content at the Cisco CCNA level, but will keep your suggestion in the queue as a possibility in the future. Thanks again for the idea.
Keith Barker Thank you! I will look forward for the video on EEM topic. Meantime can you please provide me the good reference material or good training material for learning Cisco EEM? I am interested in writing scripts to automate certain Networking tasks.

Thanks for your input! I will add that to my list. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you for doing this Keith. I've always felt overwhelmed and never got to QoS. This one was very helpful in getting past the block!
