of course It is not compulsory . now it is the age of IP based Phones rather than old traditional Analog phones , there are lot of benefits like customization, integration, automation in your telephony systems when you use IP based phones

Cloud is the future of technology, whether it is System level or networking level .it is better to be skilled in cloud based networking platform also to increase your potentials . you can see now a days few part of the CCNA and CCNP level is cloud based such as automation and deployment.I wish all the best for your knowledge hunting and wish you a best career.
