The Protoss race is just awesome, where most of the heroes are labeled as traitors or heretics like Adun, Tassadar, and Zeratul and it was because of them that Artanis became such an awesome hierarch, where he corrected the errors of the past. Hopefully in Starcraft 3, Artanis will be known as the Twilight Hierarch

I will never understand why people call StarCraft generic or derivative. The races borrowed ideas, sure, but they always seemed to me to add so much to each concept, making them unique. Look at the Terran, for instance. They have a great, gritty, practical, lunar lander fusion going on with their structures. And the space hillbilly idea was gold. I could go on and on but in short they took the lauded "used future" to an even more interesting height. The basis of comparison is often Warhammer 40K, which StarCraft is seen to have borrowed from. To me that's really ironic, as Warhammer has such blatantly derivative ideas. The Tyranids are basically xenomorphs with eyes. The Eldar are just space elves. Warhammer is good in its own right, but saying StarCraft copying it is ridiculous when Warhammer is itself much more derivative of other ideas. And yes, I'm aware StarCraft started as a Warhammer game, but it became so much more than that.
Eh, I mean I do support warhammer, the flavor of orcs is just incredibly good for example. Like the part where a bunch of orcs believing something makes it true, I mean red chariots=faster or yellow rockets=bigger explosion, or the fact that their machines wouldn't work. I just like that they made such a thing be a part of lore. And sure tyrranyds may not be as complex as zerg, but they don't have to be, because they are not one of three main races. That's not to say I don't like starcraft lore, but I don't want people undercutting warhammer

The writing from the golden age of gaming mixed with new gen graphics, stylistic art and the OG voice actors THIS is what SC2 should have been like (Granted I think they could only get x2 of the OGs being Raynor Mengsk and Zeratul's passed away but my gripe was more with the plot)
This was beautiful. It was because of your short clips of moments in Starcraft that convinced me to replay the game. I have an even greater appreciation for it now than when I first played it, so thank you Nral.

Plato's Republic in space. The idea may not be too uncommon, but the execution is absolutely unique. The fact that the Protoss' language is literally just Ancient Greek still makes me chuckle, because it works so well for them. They essentially are an entire species of ancient Greek mythological heroes.

Starcraft took inspiration from a lot of different sources, from the Alien movies to Babylon 5, and it used all that inspiration extremely well.
