I love these Ford promo videos, car ads today are dull by comparison. I wish it was Grand Pa who had the XR2i😂😂 My favourite Ford promo was the Ford Granada featuring Jackie Stewart and Frank Bough on their separate journeys to meet up at St. Andrew's golf course.
I remember the launch of new Fiesta my parents had a test drive of the 1.1Lx for 24-hours. I was given this video and a large poster of a black XR2i, pride of place in my bedroom.
Thankyou, great video. Some wealthy people back in the 70s & 80s stuck to top of the range fords. Our retired doctor lived in a Very large Hall, but had Granada ghia’s & cortina / Sierra ghia estates and his wife had capri’s followed by XR3s followed by an Orion 1600E, BMWs & Mercedes were not the norm, like they are now.
@ArmourTechnic you are correct, targeting the older generation, less set in their ways, and used to Ghia luxury, or simply giving the younger generations more choice, and of course at that time BMW & Mercedes were bullet proof high quality cars
Well, my dad also had an Orion 1.6 Ghia when I was a little boy, and after we've crashed it, it kept on going like if nothing happened, which is a proof of its reliability and build quality, isn't it? And if we compare it to a BMW or Mercedes of its time, it can be seen as a cheaper alternative to an 80s 3-series or C-class, doesn't it?
Yesterday I saw a mk3 fezza bumbling about in York. They're so rare now that I was as surprised to see it as I was when I first saw one in the flesh in 1989.
It took some time after the initial fiesta mark 3 launch for the XR2i to become available. Instead, buyers got the option of the carburettor 1.6 S. Same engine unit as the previous XR2 iirc. Was that actually a Van Halen track towards the end or a 'sound alike' band ?
I had a 1.6S in matisse blue. Reg was F657 EEX. One of my favourite cars of all time. Hindsight is wonderful but if id kept it would be a bit of a classic now.
What’s this video even demonstrating? Three cars fulfilling the basic requirements of a car by driving about with some stuff. Older couple should have taken the Scorpio to the golf club, wouldn’t have had to perform the two man task of loading the clubs into fiesta with seats down.
@@rnorth383 It shouldn't surprise you to know that no one, not a single individual, cares what you prefer. Won't have gone unnoticed that you singularly failed to respond to the initial comment. Awards found in either cereal packets or used on eBay are sad and pitiable. Hope that helps. 🙂
Jeez, calm down. What would a film mogul be doing watching a video on an 89 Ford Fiesta. Clearly even blatant irony has been lost in this instance. But based on your name, I’m assuming trolling is your hobby.

The Mk3 was kind of peak Fiesta....not as crude as the original in 1976 and not yet as over the hill as later versions that looked like Ford was wringing every last penny from this aged design. Looks like some of the driving shots were filmed at TRRL in Berkshire. "English" roads but not a road sign to be seen.
Back in the day when only upper/middle class could afford new cars.. drive round council estates these days and there’s £50,000 cars outside the houses
Yup almost all financed. Most I could afford to spend on new car would be about 10k unless I were to finance one. That would get me a specced up Dacia.
So much wrong with this video - was the producer/director new? LOL The picnic basket which she inexplicably puts on the ground behind the car, and it is never seen again. The kid who gets in the car, and leaves the door wide open while he puts his seatbelt on. The clueless older couple who park on the fairway of the golf course and who load their golfbags with the clubs at the bottom of the incline in the trunk so the club heads have undue strain put on them.... :-) Hilariously awful. Yet brilliant. :-)
Buy a mk3 fiesta, the twockers will thank you by torching it when they used the fuel up, Iirc one thing i noticed with this era of ford like mk5 escort, The fuel guage displayed how much fuel it had with ignition off,
Escorts from 86-89 didn't show the fuel left 89-91 did in the mk4. I had a H reg 1.8 diesel popular plus in a nice metallic dark grey. With the heavy engine they drove ok.
@@chrishart8548 yeah i really dont think ford relised how much that helped thieves in the late 80's onwards to decide which one to take, keeping on minimum fuel was a better security feature then any alarm or immo of the day lol

Love the totally ripped off Van Halen "Jump" music at the midpoint for the XR2 driving sequence.
How on earth did they get away with it?!
I totally see it! Van Halen must not have seen this.
That’s really unbelievable. They must have paid royalties to VH but then why not use the real song?
It was the 80's copyright infringement enforcement was not as prolific as it is today as it was much harder to monitor
The music sounds like certain German ‘gentleman’s entertainment’ titles I watched in my youth.........
The squeal when opening the hatch at 4:42 was that era’s warning system.
Families that buy Fiestas together stay together.
It's a wonder that rear boot lock even opened as those keyoxk designs were crap.
Rebuilt so many locks in ford dealer in the 90s appprentice

The video has a fantastic quality 👍👍.
I wish all these videos were preserved so well.
What a legendary car.
It's the early to mid 00's. I am the kid in the silver car 🤣. My parents, grandparents and auntie also had a MK3 fiesta. Great little cars
I love how the Silver LX is brand new but has a darker passenger door
Yesterday I saw a mk3 fezza bumbling about in York. They're so rare now that I was as surprised to see it as I was when I first saw one in the flesh in 1989.
As they all Rotted like pears
On serious note i had the 1.6 RS Turbo but sadly by time i got it , it was a 15 year old car around 2006 but still very fast and fun to drive
Once a Ford, always a Ford
💙 Fiesta 💙
The first production ever from the company that later brought you such gems as 'Crash, Bang, Wallop' starring Alan Partridge🤣🤣🤣
The silver one has an odd coloured door!
Yeah I saw that too
Yep and the XR2i is riding like a tractor.
I think they just pulled some seconds off the production line for this.
Love the 80’s vibe with the parody of Van Halen’s Jump, probably so they wouldn’t have to pay royalties
Lol it's that shite a cover of VH jump off tune add ons VH wouldn't even put his name to it.
Smart move to avoid royalties by ford.
This video has a cool story line
Cheese factor 10 😂 I love 1980s adverts!
My sister and her ex husband had a Mark three Sport Fiesta H reg in the early nineties
A metallic lead colour
My first car was a Mk3 Fiesta, a M reg 1.3 Equipe. I believe the Equipe was basically a LX with power assisted steering and different wheel trims
A real sense of occasion!
Bloody xr2i in last no chance ,must of given her one in the lay by before the celebrations.
It's got HEADLIGHTS!? ...and WINDSCREEN WIPERS!? ...and SUNVISERS!?
Hey stop bragging my Panda only had tungsten headlamps, a wiper and the sun visors were hinged to move only one way.
Is the weatherman Tony Bastable?
Funny some of the driving footage appears to be at Crowthorne’s TRRL facility, the same place Bastable would test many cars. I could be wrong though.
But yes that’s Bastable. Good catch!
Great looking car. came a long way from the mk2. Shame the engines were naff
I also owned a mark.3 Fiesta van K plate in the late nineties
The engine broke and i got a mark 4 a few years later
Both white

That is a TERRIBLE slight on the producers of this video.

You seem somewhat to have completely missed the period, clue in the title...1989. Guess you are a multi award winning film mogul...yes?.
I prefer highly decorated as opposed to multi award winning.

Great little motor the old XR2i. Shame that most would end up being thrashed to death or written off by chance driving them into ditches.
Or rattling the cam to bits or rusting apart at the seams. I loved them back then but they were never a quality item.
Remember when Ford actually sold small and compact cars in the US?🙄
@4:00 they use the car for its intended purpose. A golf cart.
3:39 Definitely wouldn’t be allowed to drive a car on the Fairway. The golfers would be furious.
Do you have any Ford Festiva content? I used to have a 93. What a fun car!
