Wow, I was so set on getting this but the ADS? Are you kidding me? This is supposed to be a reset from smartphone lifestyle and promoting disconnecting from social media for mental health yet they have the audacity to include ADS whenever you use an app? That is the only dealbreaker for me, that’s absolutely ridiculous.
@@malloryknox6802your comment makes no sense. The “disconnect from social media” is a statement the Barbie phone is promoting and I though it was ironic that they decided to include adds within the phone since that goes against “disconnecting”
@@valerialavongsar4323 you don't need that phone to disconnect from social media lmao, instead of adding more plastic to the world just turn the off phone you're using now 🤯
Jose, you DON'T KNOW how much I love the neon-on-black aesthetic!! I agree with you, having the other apps be regular colors is a bummer. I don't think I'd use Whatsapp but I'd love to have Signal on my next phone.
What I find most disappointing about majority of dumb phones are the small screens. Japanese flip phones, even dumb ones, have had way bigger screens for decades.
It's sad thinking of KaiOS could be better and he failed in selling phones. In South America they never focused in be sold as the "dumb phone with Whatsapp" and nowadays is difficult to find a KaiOS phone. Also, less recommendable due to WhatsApp's decision and the ads.
I didn't even know there were two versions of this phone until this video. I got the European version and I'm so in love with it^^ I much prefer the more basic version. Either way, I think it's a great product = good buy👍
the gps situation (and ads) at the price point feels like a tough sell for kids (and nostalgic adults) like at that point you might as well print out a mapquest
I prefer the international version running on S30+ , honestly Fully customized with pink icons, Bluetooth, superior battery life , nice easter eggs (missed call from Ken, codes unlocking wallpapers etc) Without WhatsApp, KaiOS loses much of its advantages, sadly Why even have two versions? My THEORY (!!!) is that HMD can't sell the international version in the US as it runs on a Chinese SoC ... Unisoc . Maybe samctions are an issue ? Could that be possible ?
IIRC, KaiOS 3.x is EXCLUSIVE to North America. I believe this is the primary and possibly only reason it's not available in Europe. The reason KaiOS 3.x never made it to Europe is due to the popularity of WhatsApp in Europe, IIRC. And actually, going forward, I wonder if Nokia/HMD may opt to use S30+ in North America (with CloudFone) instead of KaiOS, as KaiOS seems to be almost dead (I imagine this phone was designed prior to WhatsApp announcing their end of support for KaiOS).
We have had kaiOS in UK a few years ago I remember it, on remakes of classic Nokias, the 6300 remake I think had it and several others and then it changed @@CrossStix
@@emward6858 Yeah, I'm aware of that; that's why I said KaiOS 3.x (version 3 and newer) was never released there. You guys never got anything newer than version 2.5.4. For example, the Nokia 6300 4G you mentioned uses version 2.5.4.
The US version has better camera and kai OS. ours is 0.3mp camera and we don't have email on it which would be very useful. Why they can't make the US version worldwide I don't know, why does it have to be different
The US version runs on KaiOS with a reasonable camera, the UK/ European one (basically a branded 2660) runs on S30+ with a 0.3 MP camera. What a shame for non-US fans. Can you hot spot from this phone? Again the UK/Europeans get short changed. Even the S30+ phones are missing out on Cloud Apps.
@@JoseBriones How do you hotspot from the US version?? I recently got mine and didn't see the option... additionally I saw a website advertising Bluetooth, but I think that's the UK version only.
Personally, I wouldn't say Europeans get shortchanged. The European version is actually superior in a few different ways, as another comment here already mentioned. Especially for collectors and Barbie fanatics, the Barbie integration in the European version is superior. I'm sure that crowd in America will want to import the European version, wishing it worked properly here.
Seems cool but was trying to think if there's any reason for me to get this over the much cheaper TCL Flip 2. I just want calls text and occasional internet so leaning toward TCL. Any thoughts?
Nice review!!! I really wanna get a android ‘smart’ dumb phone but I found most of them are still rely on touchscreen ( like when I use instagram and messenger still need touchscreen to type mostly) duoqin f22 pro is pretty nice, but I can’t do everything on the physical keyboard. Do u have any other device recommend? I think it’s a huge problem 😭😭those companies start making t9 phones but the physical keyboard is a ‘decoration’
@@JoseBriones I use to be able click on the phones and it would give a great list of what the phone offers and it doesn't do that. Along with that, a lot of the filters are broken like I just tried camera and it only showed 3 phones when there are way more than that.
On the website, that price is advertised as a full year of service. They do have a phone plan that is $100 for 12 months but it can also be applied for any phone

Hi, i love the review! is the iphone 15 SIM card compatible for transfer with this phone?
If your iPhone 15 has a physical SIM card (most don't), it should be the same as this phone.
How many contacts can it have?

No reason whatsoever. The TCL Flip 2 is a better option.
I haven't used a KaiOS device in years? So I figure they lost WhatsApp support huh? The big selling point back then was WhatsApp support.

Try installing a dumbphone virtual mouse from the app stores. That way you can use some apps without having to use the touchscreen.
In Finland the OS is S30+. That's pretty weird!
