It really is! A very very good key point he did bring up in his video is “recruitment bonuses”. It’s actually one of the key things the FTC looks for in differentiating between a legit business and a pyramid scheme. That as well as high start up costs, lengthy confusing contracts, a requirement to purchase and hold an inventory, etc. If any of you are weary about any network marketing opportunity you really need to look at two things. Who you are getting involved with and credible sources. I.E. are those people who they say they are, can they help you and are they willing to. And secondly if the FTC and the better business bureau has a bad track record with them stay away. Those two things can be taken into account with any business venture. Definitely loved the video!

My best friend one time got into MLM. He met this lady at a target who said he would be like a tech guy at their company (he’s a comp-sci major). So he goes to the first interview at Panera, and the lady hands him a book to read and one of the diagrams was literally in the shape of a pyramid. 3 more interviews ensued and eventually he went to a group meeting at this fancy hotel (there were at least 70 people at that meeting). He's like "haha young man, be patient you'll have yours in a few months." I kept hesitating and wanted to know where he exactly parked his so called Ferrari so I could legit believe he really is that rich. They asked security to kick me out of property. i would seriously love to go to one of these meetings, but they're rare outside of the land of the free, the american dream. i really do want to go to one, and i'd love to go to a mega church with a pastor who owns a plane. it just seems so unreal that i got to see the madness for myself. i'll just visit the US of A next year just for these reasons (i also want to go to an american diner like the ones in the movies, they actually seem really cool)
I had a poor buddy that just bounced from one MLM job to the next. He called me once and was talking his newest “gig” up for so long that I put the phone down in my car, went in the bank, came back out, and he was still talking. True story.
That's because they weren't beating him up, they were pitching him the second Mlm and told him they were all going to that company and its totally different over there and they have a position there for him if he joins them. Which he did and tried to recruit them at the end
@@cinialvespow1054 not really. It's my aunt who's not here anymore, she used to let us try hbl,I really liked the taste but I don't know if the nutrition is legit or not.
Also potentially funny: telling him his friend will only learn the hard way aka join the mlm - potentially unferneath him .. but sadly they made Christian the boss
In college I did a lot of volunteer work to support veterans. I got to know this one classmate who was a veteran on the GI bill tryna better himself, so I gave him props and encouraged him cuz I thought that was pretty dope. After 6 months of not talking at all, he comes up beside me after class one day and says "hey man, I really appreciate all that you do for veterans, that means a lot." I thanked him for the complement, then he began to pitch the pyramid scheme BS... Was a hard lesson in how people you respect will bend you over for a dollar.
I had a friend that legit tried to get me into one of these things, was *super* annoying about it, so I went along for a day, and even though I had to put up with the most BS conferences ever, and their people brainwash for 500 bucks entry fee (that was the lowest) I got me breakfast, an afternoon party and night at the club w/drinks for free, I never heard from her again Lol! They try to screw me, so i screw them instead (In fairness, her.... boss?, her "top pyramid boss" was paying for everything, so I regret nothing)
@@cinialvespow1054 it was pretty random that my coworker was in it. They usually make you go to some meeting or presentation. Then try to sell you on it and say you pay to enter their 'business'. You can read their reviews on Glassdoor, usually are bad and pay below minimum wage
My friend once almost signed up for one. When I found out the name of the guy that pitched it to her I found out everything about him, the product, the company, who founded it, everything. Made a 5 page word document documenting every scam everyone connected to the company was involved with. Testimonials from people who quit from it before it was too late etc. Next day she broke off every contact with them
Good job! I had to do the same for a friend who was falling for pseudo medicine stuff. It kind of worked but she is still into this kind of things in general.
I absolutely love the cult-stuff. I had a friend who was in ACN (MLM) and tried to recruit me. I politely declined, but he continued to pester me for weeks. I finally agreed to join a meeting on the condition that I was free to leave once the meeting finished, and never hear anything about it again. He accepted, as he was convinced that the meeting would open my eyes, convert and sign up. It interesting to say the least. The (regional) leader was a middle aged man, the rest were young, naive men that genuinly thought they got the recipe to get rich without too much of an effort. Everyone wanted the same, looked the same and talked the same way. The leader was full of obvious BS, but they didn't question him. They just sat there awstruck by his apparent success and by the promise that they too could soon afford all the extravagant stuff he was bragging about having, and then finally be successfull and happy. 'Cult' is by far the best word I have to describe it.
This is exactly how it works.. my cousin tried to get me to sign up and then the company “executives” reached out to me on a Skype call telling me vaguely that it was a really good product but would never give specifics about their work until I signed with them. It was so shady I dipped before the cult ceremony. 😂
“What i do is make other people’s life better and make money off of it” Honestly this is so true that i felt like this guy actually heard that from an actual pyramid schemer

The only thing that got me out of it was when i was sick and didn't meet them and it was like a hypnosis wore off and i realized that this shit is a scam
I love how in the beginning it's just two dudes that are talking about nothing and then later one of them falls into the trap. It really shows that even _normal_ people can fall prey to this.
Isaiah Haas a bit but it too much work and hounding people.. there are some good, legit companies with great services but there are others that draw you in and get you spending up all your money

This happened to me before. I had a dude who approached like a friend for months and slowly started bringing up how I could be doing more with business. They started trying to make me turn me against others for not being self starters. I noticed eventually that they never would mention what the actual job or company was for a long time. I got into an initiation ceremony thing and they finally mentioned Amway. I looked it up and found quickly that it was an MLM (pyrimid scheme). Thankfully got out but it was sucky to realize the person who acted like a friend was all about business.
I experienced someone in the gym who kinda followed the same recipe. I was young and naive and already started to convince my brother that it was a good way to make money. Fortunately, my brother talked me out of it. If not, I was probably holding a candle myself somewhere, who knows. Anyway, this video is fucking brilliant, thanks Stevie!
Damn, this shit is so true lmao! "So what exactly do you guys do?" "I'm in the x industry, but my company is so much more than just y., you can become your own boss ..." " so what do you sell?" "reply dodges the question.."
There’s truly nothing like opening your dm’s to see someone from high school you havent talked to in years and weren’t really friends with to begin with going, “Heyy, super random haha but I was wondering if you want to be a 90 day product model for me?! I’m looking for two people and I love your page, it would be great to build our portfolios. You would get a HUGE discount for helping me out!! 😍 So what do you say?”
Gyms are breeding ground for MLMs because these shitty companies are peddling weight loss products, health supplements, magic vitamins and even more magic protein powders ...
like damn bro this video is already better quality than the last. I don’t like to say this much cuz it’s corny sounding but you’re actually gonna blow up so much. Like within the next two years these videos are gonna have a full production set and everything it’s gonna be crazy
I always love your stuff, its always fresh and unique. You're prolly my favorite active filmmaker on youtube right now. Do you want some unsolicited advice on ADR (2:01 Y I K E S)(2:37, ehh)? does it count as unsolicited if I ask first, ehh whateves. if you don't care move on and have a wonderful day, if you do, read along. never be afraid to take the mic into the bathroom or your kitchen to get a distant sound that matches location. Or, throw a basic reverb filter on it, not as good, bet better than nothing. On set sound is obviously best, but budget doesn't always allow you to make another trip to the gym to record one line, but spending 20 minutes at home to get it right, really adds that extra level of polish. (time is money, so time budget is just as important for keeping your sanity as monetary budget. youve talked in the past about struggling to know when to make the call on when a video is done enough, because you and I both know you are never really done polishing, but getting ADR right is defiantly a higher priority than a TLC editors like myself put into projects) If you have your own equipment and aren't borrowing/renting, use the same mic as well, the same distance from you; even without the same location, just those steps the difference is noticeable for sure. If you don't have a recorder, just plug the mic into the camera and film the wall. I've seen a macbook in your videos, so you can use that as a makeshift recorder. Hell worse comes to worst, for a couple bucks grab an XLR to 3.5 or USB C and plug it into your phone. You won't get the quality of a zoom, but its a fraction of the price and easier to deal with the files. For 2:37, unless used for dramatic effect, never have the sound change as your character gets closer or further from the camera. It breaks the fourth wall hard. The mic distance can change between cuts and angles, but never during a shot. But not all bad, great job leaving room-tone under the ADR, so the chop is far smoother.
I have family who did MLM. Most businesses require some investment and most businesses fail. MLM is like that. Most people lose money. Some businesses start as MLM than transition out because it’s a cheap way to start a business. But because it’s a cheap way to start a business many terrible products are started this way. And lots of people try it over and over losing money. If you to do MLM the business should be focused on moving product not making money from sign up’s or having large requirements for distributors to buy. Those type, if they have good product transition to other distribution methods.
So accurate as well with how they don't actually describe what they do and try to encourage you to go to a 'meeting' and then you realize the whole thing is bs.
Also- when I moved to a new town I met this girl at my work. She basically acted like she was going to be my friend since me and my roommate didn’t know many people. We invited her over and she came equipped with a laptop and a whole fucking spiel for her pyramid scheme. 😭😭😂
Been watching your snaps since you were in ASU, and I haven't stopped watching since! One of the funniest RUclipsrs that I can recommend to anyone who needs a laugh.
It is a funny video and it is pointing it out correctly: It IS a pyrimid sceme NOT because of the shape of a pyramid (stupid to think it is that simple), BUT because of only making money on the signup fees instead of making money on the sale of relevant products. That is why network marketing is legal and pyramid scemes are not... (I am not in network marketing, but studied that in college)
Sounds like Market America. Was in job orientation training when the trainer drew a triangle and said what does this business model look like. Got pissed and fired me when i said well it looks like a pretty basic pyramid scheme
multi-level marketing is pretty much identical to a pyramid scheme. Instead of selling signup fees they just price up their products and add commission-based kickbacks to everyone up the ladder. It's just an accounting trick to get around FBI definitions of a pyramid scheme while still maintaining the same structure. The same people get the same amount of money as a pyramid scheme. It's just how the money written on the paper is a little bit different.
@@VortexMagus That sounds correct, but it is not: If more then 50% of sales are made off the recruits themselves, it gets in the direction of becoming a pyramid sceme. And that's illegal. Even if they are selling real products it is illegal. But if it is the opposite, e.g. if 9 of 10 customers are not inside the comlany and are only customers, it is a legit business.
My favorite part was when Stevie was looking through the window and Christian popped out of no where and said” STEVIE YOU MADE IT!” I was dying laughing 😂.
Old high school classmate tried to get me into one after we graduated and when him and his partner was explaining how it worked, I played along. They asked me if I understood what they were explaining and I was like “yeah, it’s a pyramid” and they got slick with it and hit me with the “oh no, it’s actually Multi Level Marketing..” I told them the only multi level marketing I do is Marijuana.

i would seriously love to go to one of these meetings, but they're rare outside of the land of the free, the american dream. i really do want to go to one, and i'd love to go to a mega church with a pastor who owns a plane. it just seems so unreal that i got to see the madness for myself. i'll just visit the US of A next year just for these reasons (i also want to go to an american diner like the ones in the movies, they actually seem really cool)
@neanda I went to a meeting at Amway and people were crying when they were saying their sob stories
I had a poor buddy that just bounced from one MLM job to the next. He called me once and was talking his newest “gig” up for so long that I put the phone down in my car, went in the bank, came back out, and he was still talking. True story.
"Spiritually disturbed. You know, not cool with the man upstairs." This is genius
“They beat me for like 45 mins” 😂😂 not a single blood or cut on him 😂😂
...that's because they weren't beating him up...they were beating something else up haha
That's because they weren't beating him up, they were pitching him the second Mlm and told him they were all going to that company and its totally different over there and they have a position there for him if he joins them. Which he did and tried to recruit them at the end
i smell a pitch cominngg.. EXACTLY BEFORE THE AD
Herba Living = Herba Life
Scamway = Amway
Genny Henry Art totally thought it was Young Living before this post

I drank herbal life before. It's actually quite nice to drink tho. It smells good😅

3:43 funniest part in this skit. He’s still under contract so he still asked if his friend if he want some product.
Also potentially funny: telling him his friend will only learn the hard way aka join the mlm - potentially unferneath him .. but sadly they made Christian the boss

"It's not a pyramid scheme, it's a triangle of opportunity...."
*compliment
I had a friend that legit tried to get me into one of these things, was *super* annoying about it, so I went along for a day, and even though I had to put up with the most BS conferences ever, and their people brainwash for 500 bucks entry fee (that was the lowest)
I got me breakfast, an afternoon party and night at the club w/drinks for free, I never heard from her again
Lol!
They try to screw me, so i screw them instead
(In fairness, her.... boss?, her "top pyramid boss" was paying for everything, so I regret nothing)
I know my coworker had join meeting and I went along with it. This one was based around getting points for traveling lol
Sounds like you came out on top of that one lol
@@SoFreshBlaze wait what, so was it less clearly a pyramid scheme ?
@@cinialvespow1054 it was pretty random that my coworker was in it. They usually make you go to some meeting or presentation. Then try to sell you on it and say you pay to enter their 'business'. You can read their reviews on Glassdoor, usually are bad and pay below minimum wage
You scammed the scammers. Touché
It's Multi-Level marketing! Also have you guys read this book? It's called 'The go-giver'. Great read. Totally not a pyramid scheme pitch.
Next day she broke off every contact with them
You are a great friend!
Good job! I had to do the same for a friend who was falling for pseudo medicine stuff. It kind of worked but she is still into this kind of things in general.
@@Trip_mania You know what they say: you can't fix stupid.
Take away from this video: don't let random dudes spot you at the gym
Better yet, get a home gym
You're a modern day rockstar. A mixture between scott disick/ lenny kravitz/ charmander/ and nelson mandela
9:57 the dude missed the counter when putting the candle on it
This is exactly how it works.. my cousin tried to get me to sign up and then the company “executives” reached out to me on a Skype call telling me vaguely that it was a really good product but would never give specifics about their work until I signed with them. It was so shady I dipped before the cult ceremony. 😂
“What i do is make other people’s life better and make money off of it”
Honestly this is so true that i felt like this guy actually heard that from an actual pyramid schemer
then there’s a guy that stands in the front of the room and he starts his speech with,
“3 years ago I used just to be just like you”

I literally almost got rilled in into on of these MLM companies. They are super good at talking and making you believe that you can become rich and so on.
As someone who did MLM and Network Marketing for years.. this is both hilarious and true.

It’s funny asf, cause this literally happened to me
This happened to me before.
Keep up the good work man, that sub count is growing brother
Keep it up boys! Loving the vids. Can't wait for yall to blow up
So underrated you’re gon blow up this channel is so funny
I almost nearly signed up to a mlm scheme, the company was called Zinzino. At the last moment I cancelled that shit, and thank god I did.

I was on an amway zoom meeting a couple weeks ago damn it was retarded

P. S. dope video man appreciate u
I crawled out of two pyramid schemes in my 20s. It took 2 but I finally learned.

I’m looking for two people and I love your page, it would be great to build our portfolios. You would get a HUGE discount for helping me out!! 😍 So what do you say?”
This was way too accurate, Stevie I know you’ve been done before 😂 also, why are gyms such a breeding ground for Multi-level Pyramids Scemes 😂🤦🏻♂️
Gyms are breeding ground for MLMs because these shitty companies are peddling weight loss products, health supplements, magic vitamins and even more magic protein powders ...

Interesting
no u
This is even funnier when you've actually been in a pyramid scheme. . . *cough* *cough* ItWorks *cough*
Ok, so the "scamway" was reference to "amway"
This is the best pyramid scheme video ever. Actually depicts how they sucker people into their bullshit. You are going to be YT famous soon!
What was that initial conversation? 😂💀 5:35 Thought I accidentally rewinded. "All I do is enhance people's lives".
"It could still be multi-level marketing. Let's give them a chance"😂❤
"And their friends...and their friends...and their friends" that part had me dying 🤣
One of my friends got lured into the pyramid scheme exactly the same way, even the dialogues were same🤣🤣.

Are we just not going to ask the question of, who in Herbaliving HELL is holding up Christian's candle at 9:02?!?!
His massive shlong
It is a funny video and it is pointing it out correctly:
It IS a pyrimid sceme NOT because of the shape of a pyramid (stupid to think it is that simple), BUT because of only making money on the signup fees instead of making money on the sale of relevant products.
That is why network marketing is legal and pyramid scemes are not...
(I am not in network marketing, but studied that in college)
So bassicly they found a way to work around it, got you.
Almost all businesses and organization have pyramid hierarchy. So yes that’s not relevant to a business model.
Slappers Only enhances people’s lives through their friends, & their friends, & their friends, & their friends
My favorite part was when Stevie was looking through the window and Christian popped out of no where and said” STEVIE YOU MADE IT!” I was dying laughing 😂.

They asked me if I understood what they were explaining and I was like “yeah, it’s a pyramid” and they got slick with it and hit me with the “oh no, it’s actually Multi Level Marketing..” I told them the only multi level marketing I do is Marijuana.
