I recently bought Deadpoly , and the game is extremely fun. What I enjoy most is the ability to run a local server so my wife, daughter, and I can play together. Love the game, and considering the developer is a single individual, I am amazed at what they have accomplished. Three days in and still discovering new things. There are a few bugs, sure, but that is to be expected. I can't hype this game enough. I just pray it doesn't fall to the wayside like so many other promising Steam games. Would highly recommend!

Old video but I do appreciate any dev that still focuses on PVE or Single player games as a priority. The gaming world is overwhelmed with PVP survival, FPS or MMO's etc. Sure don't need another one. When you get older you will have less and less time for games and PVP just takes too much time. So games that can save and play later is what you need. The most I go is playing coop with the family on weekends thankfully the wife and kids are not full on gamers. 😊

I'm a bit bummed that you used literally the oldest videos possible when showcasing DeadPoly, but thanks for doing a comparison video. SurrounDead is an awesome game, and Zurvivor has done an awesome job of creating their vision.

By the looks of it, both games make use of the Apocalypse Pack from Synty (surely someone spotted it already, haven't been able to read all the comments, so I'm sorry if this is a double) but I would not describe them as copies since the packs are still available for purchase on both Unity Asset Store and Unreal Marketplace.

Found this by chance and I am very grateful. I have been playing SurrounDead for the last few days and was tired of seeing the crap directed at the Dev/game. Nice to see a voice of reason, and from your description I might have to give DeadPoly a go too, I wasn't too sure before watching this but I feel like it is worth at least a look. Honest review for surroundead- So many other similar zombie survival games (Deadpoly 10/10) out there more developed than this. No multiplayer. Been out over a year. Developer road is a joke. The MODS or devs on their discord will respond with nasty comments or memes back if you dare ask about multiplayer. 1/10 if you have nothing to do and want to mindlessly try to melee zombies with their broken melee system..
I stumbled upon this video while looking for deadpoly content and decided to also give surroundead a shot. I've ended up really loving both games (for very different reasons) and feel they each capture something special about what it is that I love about the genre. They are both filled with potential, but even in early access there is still a lot of fun to be had, and the games don't have that usual 'jank' you see from single dev early access survival games.
Deadpoly really shines in the looting and base building aspect. The smaller map, with plenty of hollow buildings each begging to be made into the zombie survival shelter they deserve, the ton of placeable base parts, and the overall lighthearted vibe the game has make this such a fun time for the more creative player. The ability to really customise your character and base really make this perfect for playing with friends.
Surroundead is a much more 'realistic' immersive experience, much more focused on the combat and survival parts. The larger map and vehicles encourages you to stay on the move rather than settle down at a base. You need to play a lot stealthier as these zombies are much tougher to deal with, and the extra challenge of dealing with radioactive fallout in the more loot heavy areas means you need to prepare before heading out. I'm really excited about where this game goes with the singleplayer gameplay, and the addition of quests and a skill tree will really help if the dev can get them implemented.
Honestly to anyone not sure which game to get, and who can afford it, get both, you won't be disappointed and you'll help two indie developers out.

I love surroundead. It's so fun, even though there isn't a bunch to do. I'm a base builder and a hoarder of things, so it's gets all the checkmarks so far.

I love the surroundead I'm way more into the pve and for anybody that's playing on a steam deck I would recommend the controller setup of norwhim it made the game so much more enjoyable on the deck and it gives you the freedom to do everything without multi clicking buttons
I'd love to see an updated video comparing Surroundead, Deadpoly and Fargone. All 3 seem really cool but i can decided between the 3 of them and I'm sure they have changed.
deadpoly is way better imo a lot more to offer and this was 2022 video the graphics are so much better and now amongst zombies are raiders npc's that will fight you too if they spot you yeah i lacks a storyline but in post apocalyptic games we make our own stories, not the mentioned the unbelievable collectibles that are available in deadpoly i play it just to rule over having all the collectibles in the game

I recently bought and played both, and while both games are great in their own ways, I can't help but feel like combining Surroundeads base game mechanics, movement, gunplay etc, with Deadpolys Decorations and placibles would make for one of the best solo survival games.
I fell in love with dead poly really quickly because of the amount customisation with all the findable base items, like the toys, furniture etc. But fell short because of the lack of things to do and the small map size.
I also fell on love with Surroundead very quickly, the core mechanics are muuuuuch better than deadpolys and is much more enjoyable overall with a lot more to do. But as a base builder I can't help but feel like the base building in Surroundead in a bit lacking, there is a few things, but building a base with the same repeating items gets a bit boring so to speak.
I hope they add more base items in the future!
And also the ability to place items down in your base without them disappearing, kinda like deadpolys "Set Down" feature!

I read reviews for both of the games on steam, and I definitely like how SurrounDead sounds. Even though both of the games seem promising, I’d rather wait until they get further in development. I don’t think there’s enough content available (in my opinion).

I bought and played it for an hour two days ago and to be honest, it was pretty disappointing. The game is practically empty, and the items are just strewn around randomly. I refunded pretty quickly and bought Green Hell, which was only 2 euros more than Deadpoly. For almost 10 euros, this game is heavily overpriced for what it offers, especially considering it's been a year since this video was released.

I've been playing Surroundead for a couple of days, and just now found out of Deadpoly and of course it was a big surprice to see there's a game that looks exactly the same but has multiplayer? And came out before Surroundead? And it's not by the same developers? A real big confusion, thank you for clarifying. I'm really inclined to try out Deadpoly and see if it's an upgrade or a downgrade. So far, surroundead has felt super easy, and beginning to get uninteresting. Even with the settings I gave it to increase its difficulty such as way more zombie spawn. It all is really resting on how shitty and buggy the ai and combat is. The way zombies can hear you and start sprinting at you when you're sneaking and supposedly making no sound, behind a wall, outside a building or on a lower or higher floor, is bulshit and really ruins stuff. It makes you play in such a way that you simply have to draw all the zombies outside of buildings before entering simply because sneaking is horrible. Other than that, the way you stagger zombies with every hit makes you invincible, and the way they do not sprint at you or humans don't shoot at you nor hide when you snipe them from afar, makes things really easy and boring. Also the inventory system is crazy, you become a walking warehouse really quickly because it's possible to store bigger backpacks in backpacks and store items inside many many layers of backpacks. I must have a 100 backpacks in my inventory. It is fun but being god like turns boring quick. I don't think Deadpoly will be much better but its worht a shot.

I'm more of a fan of SurrounDead, I love the single player PvE style of the game. I'm tired of PvP, been playing PvP kinda games since I was a kid, which was a long time ago. Now I'm more into single player and co-op games, though I'll still dabble in PvP games once in a blue moon.
Oh I'm only looking for survival games with digging, building, climbing to higher ground to get one over the monsters, and player avatar mods. but these other things are interesting to know.
I hate pvp and the anger is pushes for it is well known that most developer build the game on this for that reason and want this in the game they seem to believe that instilling this kind of idea will get more players to buy game WHATEVER, but a co-op game playing the AI is much better.
These are Synty Studio assets, which are made to be used by many indie developers, so they can focus on the gameplay implementations, and if they want later swap out assets, just like Dead Poly currently started to do with their characters. I played multiple similar games like these, there are more than just these two. But these two in fact look very alike at the first glance, at least they used to be, not anymore. Playing multiple of these kinds of indie survival games using the same assets, I have to say Surrounded feels the best. What I mean by that is, that it gives me all the things I expected from this game, unlike many others. It sure is far away from being finished, and I have many issues with it, which I could talk about for hours. But I think the dev is already aware of most, so we just have to sit back and wait a while. Multiplayer will come to Surrounded, but if you really looking for a Rust experience, then better pick Dead Poly, I guess.
may 2024, Deadpoly on 75% sale currently. I will say the Dev have done an amazing job on the game and hopefully won't give it up.

Hell on the whole "similar assets, means theft" The Walking Dead VR storage system is sold as a generic VR Backpack storage package.

Theres not many Multiplayer Open World Zombie Survival games.
I think it's worth mentioning that both of the games devs are friends and share the assets. Deadpoly also has about 6 month lead on development.

Tried both, my vote was Surroundead. I didn't hate deadpoly, but the janky melee combat is pretty horrendous. I also miss being able to store stuff in the crafting stations and have actual things to place around and decorate but I had to stick to Surroundead.

The 2nd one appears to have a... giant mobile base? I'm quite curious to check that out. Does anyone here know what game that is? EDIT: Of course right after I post this, I find it - was able to screen grab a scene from the video and Google Image search it. It's Survival Machine, but it's not release yet, even in EA.

Both games use third party bought assets by Synty Studios. Surroundead did not steal assets from Deadpoly.

This video feels pretty misleading. For one it makes it seem like DP is all online PVP, when you can play it in single player, or in PVE or a fourth mode that allows PVP but not looting iirc. Also some of the wording is a bit misleading or off causing confusion. Also I'm pretty sure DP does have drivable cars and they're using the same assets so to say the graphics in the other game are better just feels misleading. The textures are the same, the other one just applies some post processing effects and stuff that make it look different, but whether it looks better is subjective.
The video is just outdated! Look at the date of the video, in the real world-games are being updated and videos remain the same.

So far i have like 11 hours into Surroundead, and i fcking love this game, its exactly that, a singleplayer DayZ...however, i hate to not be able to change my shirt, pants, shoes, chestrig etc....thats a BIG plus for Deadpoly :/ i really really hope it will get implemented.

Surroundead is a bit more polished from a gun and salvage perspective and almost reminds me of a dumbed-down Tarkov in terms of how extensive the inventory system is.
I have both now they should marry, it would be like goku and vageta fussing. both are amazing games in thier unique ways I will be committed to both!!

Dead Polly had cars
I found it slightly more difficult to start in Surroundead than in Deadpoly because of the combat mechanics, but I find more loot in places in the former than the latter. Am I looking in the wrong spots? Yeah probably. But if I enter a building in Surroundead, I'm going to find something lootable. In Deadpoly, I've combed through two apartment buildings and didn't find much other than a couple records, some plants, and a helmet or two.
Loot is very satisfying in surroundead. I find dead poly world very boring. Surrounded has cool things like bunkers, prison raids for better Loot, now added bandits into the game so you can raid them or u will find them roaming around
I love how someone say its stolen assets XD, Im a Unity dev and you can normally buy them in the Unity Asset Store

Thanks for the comparison between these games. I had already bought Surroundead, but in googling some stuff saw this video (I'd never looked at, or recall hearing about, DeadPoly). After watching this, seems I made the right choice for gameplay elements as I prefer PvE.
