I am 21 years old and I am currently a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) in the state of Florida. Last year I graduated from Florida International University with my BA in Psychology. I will soon start my journey to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) as I begin graduate school this fall!
On this channel I will be discussing anything related to ABA/RBT/BCBA as well las my journey through graduate school as an online student. I am open to sharing about my daily life and any other topic you guys would like. This is all based off of my experiences and I would like to share it with you all !

So does your BCBA give you a daily schedule/ program of what to implement with the client everyday? Like how to do know what exactly to do each session.

I got hired for the RBT position. To be honest i have no clue when it comes to working with people with autism but i read about it. Im not comfortable going to people's homes because some people's houses can be disgusting. I live in New York city so it is very rare to find a clinic location to work.

Can you choose a client ? For example if you don’t want to work with aggressive behaviors , can you do choose who to work with ?
    Thank you 💕

Its a year late but I’ll answer anyways, the way it works its you get a case. If the case is too much for you you can ask to be moved to a different case.

Hi, can you chose a family to work with? Like maybe you know someone beforehand ?

    Caridad,
Are reinforces/toys/fun stuff taken to the first session or after? 🙈

Hi! Fun stuff is definitely appropriate for the first sessions and future sessions. Building rapport is very important throughout your time with the client but it is crucial in the beginning stages. Definitely discuss this with your BCBA, I am sure they can provide many suggestions!

Are you ever afraid of in-home visits? Like how do you know if the environment is safe?

Hi Marie! I have been nervous about session because you don’t know how the family dynamic is, also a new client, etc. if I ever feel that I am unsafe in the environment I would definitely inform my supervisor. These are good questions to ask the agency you are working with and see what protocols they have in place for these kinds of situations. I hope this helped ! 🤍

I am actually waiting on getting a case, and it will be my first time ever as an RBT. During the first session, we are basic jist meeting the family correct? Does the analyst ever go with you? I'm so nervous because this is all new to me and I haven't been explained much .

That’s great ! During the first session usually you should be accompanied by the BCBA or BCABA. In this session you usually just meet the family and client. The first couple of sessions you do not implement any interventions , you typically just take data and you build rapport with the client. This is what I have experienced, but make sure to reach out to your analyst and clear any concerns you may have prior to your first session! I hope this helps 🤍.
Feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
