    fun fact, there isn't a single snare hit in this song. when they were writing the song they were in a rented practice space and the drum kit there always had a broken snare so they just wrote the song without it.

    Definitely not for everyone. I really have to be in the right mood for Daughters, but sometimes nothing else hits the spot like them.

    Easily one of the most sinister records I’ve ever heard. And not something I can come back to very often. It’s so well done but the deliberate discomfort is defo a turn off, so I fully respect why you’d not be into it.
    Their previous self titled record is what I’d describe as Elvis dancing on a malfunctioning jet engine and one of my favourite ever albums. It’s a lot more accessible too.

      Agreed, the album takes a toll on a person... At least with me. Kind of like Jane Doe or TDS.

    you chose probably the easiest song to listen to, the rest of the songs off this album, which I love, are much more foreboding and go into just walls of noise and sound which sounds epic for people who like it

      I think the best songs are, in this order: Guest House, Long road no turns, Satan in the wait, Flammable Man, City Song, Less sex, Lords song, Ocean Song, The reason they hate me. Tbh is hard to classify them, because each song is at least a 9/10 and, depending on my mood, i love one or another.

    I feel like if you want the more dissonant side to this particular Daughters album "Long Road No Turns" is what I'd recommend. Just a more manic and shifting dissonance to that one. Amazing album all around though, highly recommend!

    This entire album might literally be the best album I have heard in 20 years 🤔
    Absolutely amazing 👌 Fact... So glad this made it to your attention 👌

    I'm one of those few guys that likes to listen to something interesting, I'm not looking for some simple hook to get me, I like to listen to whole albums and Daughters did something special by mixing dissonance with poetry which resonates with me.

      My favorite song on the album, but personally I think that song doesn't have the same impact without listening to the rest of the album before it. Not a great "standalone" song imo. Wish he would have done Long Road No Turns or Ocean Song!

    I'm rather ambivalent on this. I think to get the bad out of the way first, I really didn't care for how repetitive this was, especially in terms of the vocals and rhythm. I'm not conceptually against repetition, but I tend to think that with repetition you either need really interesting changes around the repetition, or you need whatever's repeating to provide some kind of hypnotic aesthetic affect, or perhaps just have small variations within the idea of the repetitive idea (as with minimalism), or you need to use that repetition to build tension. I think this track is trying to go for the first method, of having changes around the repetition. They do that mostly with some of the textures in the guitars and keyboards (I think I heard keyboards in there). However, because these changes are more textural than then prominence of the vocals and rhythm the latter element just comes through too strong.
    However, all that said, if I can force myself to focus on those textural changes they are quite good and interesting in their own right, especially in how it switches between the dissonant and consonant elements. I also don't think the vocals are too bad in themselves, and I do think this kind of "speak-sung" vocals can have a certain hypnotic power, and here I think the vocals are perhaps half-way there. I guess I'm just torn between the repetitive aspects that annoy and the interesting aspects, of which there are quite a few. It's often the case with tracks that aren't... let's say immediately aesthetically pleasing that there's a certain dissonance (hah!) between our lack of enjoyment and all the interesting artistic stuff that's going on. Such seems to be the case here.

    Playing catch up on some of these.
    This record is great.
    Definitely a strong Suicide with updated firmware vibe, albeit with a slight melodic bent. Prime Swans come to mind as well.

    @alexhandro3163 2 года назад

    If you ever do dissonance again, give Little God in My Hands by Swans a listen. It's one of my favorite songs that layer on top of one idea. Swans are the masters of that style in my opinion. EDIT: It's Coming It's Real by Swans might be more enjoyable for you. It has a very melodic and ethereal vibe, but has a similar one idea structure.

    Wow somehow you’re reacting to a lot of my favorite underappreciated music lately. Dog faced Hermans, boredoms, And now daughters (this track reminds me of an 80s favorite- the birthday party doing “mutiny”. Didn’t you even do a neurosis track? Whoever is feeding you music is doing a great job. i think i’ve heard you’re more prog-oriented, if so heres some lesser known bands considered prog but coming from another place: no means no OR ruins (2 great prog-punk), the ex + tom cora (“state of shock”), caspian “arcs of command” kinda prog-post punk.
