- Hi everyone! Welcome to my next Makeup 101 installment! This video is all about how to depot eye shadows from a palette into a zpalette WITHOUT using ANY heat! There are many ways to depot a palette but I’m pretty accident prone so I prefer to leave heat out of the mix. I hope you enjoy!

This is a cool trick. I've been clearing out eyeshadows and de-potting....except I haven't. What I've ACTUALLY been doing is shattering eyeshadows, burning my fingers, getting the entire place covered with a six-inch layer of sparky dust, and occasionally concussing myself as the pot pings out with such velocity it hits the ceiling then whacks me on the head on the way down, showering me in sparkles (awww.) Oh, and swearing. A lot. So, I have a lot of shattered plastic, a lot of empty pans, a lot of shiny dust....and one single eysgadow left in a neon-green that nobody sane would ever wear. And the moral of the story is.....watch the vids on how to do it FIRST!
Teehee, I giggled quite hard reading this. :D
+Emmkah Peh (MKP) aww, thank you :-) To be fair, I giggled quite a lot, too. I went for the pyromaniac's method of heating with a lighter, and ended up huffing so much melted plastic I giggled solidly for three days. Whilst floating on the celing :-)
+Grumpyand Bored LOL - where was your gas mask?? Forgot it at the supermarket again, when you had to take it off to look for some change? And what did the bunny have to say about that, eh? 😜
+Emmkah Peh (MKP) Haha...yeah, the gas mask. Ahem. The cat stole it. AND she made friends with the bunny, now they sit in the corner and point and laugh at me :-/
Mind you, I DID explode a dark red eyeshadow all over her. Oopsie. It took her weeks to get out, and it just sort of. .faded to a pale pink. She looked like the spokescat for gay pride!
+Grumpyand Bored Well, maybe that's been her dream all this time and you had noticed (subconsciously/telepathically) and just wanted to make her happy? So good of you to sacrifice your expensive makeup. 😍👍🏻 (On a more serious note: I don't think I would let my cats get this stuff out of their coats all by themselves. These pigments were not made to be ingested… ☣ On the other hand that means, that you can let her play with your lipstick collection all you want! ✨😁✨)
did you really toss all those purple shadows?!! no lie, that broke my heart a little..
Livia Eliseo love me some purple
Ive been looking for a good way to depot my pallets without inhaling fumes XD This was fantastic
+Woouderhause Yay!! I am glad it's helpful for you!! :)
Thank you for this!! I need to simplify my makeup collection and I'm going to be using this method for the depotting process! New subbie! 😘
+Emily Swanky You're welcome! Some cardboard packaging can be gently ripped apart which can make your job a little easier. :)
Amazing! This is *totally working* for my MAC lip palette!!
I've never depotted anything before, and wanted to avoid using heat or other potentially dangerous or destructive methods - I want my Back2MAC, dang it! 😂
And holy crap this totally works!! Thank you for showing us how and for sharing this video in the first place, even several years ago ☺️ THANKS!
ive heard of the floss method but i couldn't visualize how it's done so thank you so much for posting this video!
Just gotta say thanks for this video- I seriously belly laughed when you poked the shadow with the needle, pointed it out, then proceeded to poke the shadow again. Seems like something I’d do 😂
Holy cow, this method was a mess to try out. 1) You need eyeshadows where there's enough space between palette and pan to fit the floss down there. 2) you need eyeshadows which are glued down in the pan and not sitting directly in the well. 3) You need eyeshadows that wont break too easily. This trick was just impossible for me. Most of my eyeshadows in pans and palettes are fitted way too tightly into the pans to make it possible to get floss down between. So in my efforts I smashed 5 mac eyeshadows in the process an must confess I think this is only for people with the right eyeshadows to fit the method.
I'm sorry you had so many difficulties with it. If you can't get the floss between the pan and the palette then heat is likely your best option to depot. The palettes I've tried this trick on have all had enough room for the floss, though. If it's a cardboard palette, you can rip the cardboard back a bit and try bending it but if it's plastic, you have to use heat. :/ 90% rubbing alcohol mixed in with the cracked/shattered pans of shadow can help mend them. Just mash the shadow up, add the alcohol, wrap a quarter with a paper towel and mash down gently then set to dry. :)
Eyes On Allison Its probably because the cardboard packaged shadows I have, are mostly in palettes and I don't depot palettes to put into other palettes. But all the little trios, quads, singles etc are mostly plastic just so horribly well glued into their pans. My fave technique (or the only successful one) is heat with hair straightener, product over candle or microwave. Im always scared of fire when using candles and even more with the microwave so I mostly use hair straighteners.
Eyes On Allison And I was never that lucky with the whole "drown them in alcohol" approach as my eyes always sting from the leftover non airborn particles when the liquid has evaporated. It never fails. I guess some of us are just born with 5 thumbs on each hand.
for mac, you need to put the bottom of the shadows over a heat source or blow dryer and just poke the back with a pin. Push when shadow is over a towel so you don't damage them.
Teresa Nguyen Do that work for you? Ive lost 4 mac shadows that way when I deported mine and I only had 11 to begin with and had to repurchase the ones I smashed as they were just beyond repair.
How many eye shadows were harmed in the making of this video? Heeheehee!
This is awesome thank you! I have a very bulky Tarte palette that I wanted to depot a few shades from, and after breaking two of them (thankfully crappy ones I didn't want), I decided to look up tutorials. This seems like the safest way to do it.
Oh my goodness, this was so helpful! I did actually need to heat up my setting powder pan with my straightener first because there wasn't much space like in your pan. But once I was able to get a pin on the side, I got the floss in there and removed the pan!!
why would anyone dislike this? this is genius !!!!!!
+lovelydreamsmua Thank you!! :)
Agree
Daniel Campos smart way to do make up is stuff like this and to actually USE it I agree
I tried this. I was skeptical because of the other comments. I’m depotting Ipsy singles like blush and highlighter, and I have a history of destroying them. I tried this with a needle and a slurpee straw to push into place... it worked like a CHARM!!! Seriously give it a try, take your time. It is a game changer!!
Thank you so much! I´m about to go on holiday and I don´t really want to bring my Naked 2 Palette with me, instead I just wanted to swap some shadows from the Naked 2 with some from the Naked Basic. But every depotting-video I found destroyed the freaking packaging, when all I want is to just swap some shades. So thank you!!!
It's a method I never have thought off. Thank you! I will try it for my eyeshadow palettes that have enough space around the pan
thanks for this! this is just what i need cuz i just want to put some shades in a magnetic palette that i use the most for travel but i wanna leave the others in the old palettes rather than destroy the whole palette!
You crack me up, Stop the violence! Lol great video. I love my pretty palettes so I'm not at the depotting phase... I suspect it makes things much easier, but I'm a sucker for cute packaging! Lol
+KnowledgeNerd I love packaging, too!! This palette had a bunch of dud colors in it so I depotted the shades I wanted to keep and let the rest go. :)
Thank you sooo much ❤ I was able to do this with a couple pans. The first one I took out worked with just the pin moving the pan slightly lol. Eternally grateful ;^; no risk of breaking shadows or accidentally hurting my hands 🎉
You are brilliant. I have 3 Clio pallets that I thought some colors were too similar. I just depot a couple colors and switch them around using your method. It was quick, I did stab a couple of them but it wasn’t hard or messy. Thank you.
Yay! Yours was the first tutorial for depoting then I found and I need to depot three Stila eyeshadow palettes. I would never have thought of doing it this way so thank you so much for the tutorial. 👍🏼
Omg this is probably the BEST way of doing this shit! I broke some of my blushes trying to depot and this right here is GOLD! I hate that I don't have any floss BUT I will get my butt off this bed and do this NEOWWW! TY!!!!
I just depotted my Tanya burr palette using just pins! It worked so well! Thank you for showing us this trick it helped me do mine :)
GENIUS! This totally works on the new rectangle jordana shadows. THANK YOU!!
thank you!!!! was dreading having to breathe plastic fumes today from burning plastic over my tealight
To get the eyeshadow tin out of the pallete I use the end of a metal nail file around the edges where you put the floss, be careful for it pinging out whatever method you use.
I shall try that. Don't want to use heat as it looks too too dangerous!!! Thank you for this video!
Wow! This video is amazing! Thanks for sharing 😀
Your personality is so cute. I just had to subscribe 😂💖💞
very neat! love your humour lol! i never knew u could do it like this very awesome!
Definitely a great video. I may end up depotting some eyeshadows next year and buy a Z palette to put them in and then toss the other eyeshadows in the palette(s) I don't want.
I love you, just FYI, I freaking love you right now. I have been trying to find a way to depot my shadows without a freaking straightening iron...I have straight hair...I DO NOT NEED a straightening iron...omg I love you.
+Oops WrongCookie Yay I'm so glad it's going to help you!!! I don't have a straightener either! :)
This is a good hack! Unfortunately, for me the gaps in my eyeshadow palettes are too small to use floss so I've been using clothes pin, to leverage them out. The first one was cardboard so I just tore it apart. Takes forever, but I'm too worried about using heat to get them out as there can be many consequences of that.
THANK YOU!
I don't own a straightening iron, and I didn't want to inhale melted plastic and adhesive...call me crazy, lol.
+whutzat I don't blame you! I didn't want to risk hurting myself or damaging a straightener or my makeup so I went with the floss method instead! :)
Inhaling the glue and plastic is the best bit! I've been floating near the ceilinh for the last three days...
OMG!! This is some witchcraft you have!!! Thank you so much!
This is an interesting method. I like it very much.👍🏼👍🏼
Absolutely love this technique! Thank you!! Plus... you're hilarious😂
+Dana B Thank you so much!! :)
I stopped to click and like this video and comment because I saw #StopTheViolence and I thought that was so funny thank you for the laugh haha
This actually worked, thank you!!
Great tip, and funny too! You earned a subscriber! 😸
Welcome!
So clever! and so helpful!
Renee Elizabeth Thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful for you! :)
Just found your channel yesterday! You're too funny!
Lol this video is awesome!! Thank you for sharing!
I cannot for the life of me get the floss to go beneath the pan. When I start to wiggle it, it pops right back out. So frustrating!
+Konoha Ninja 123 It can be a process. I cut a lot of footage out and luckily this palette had pretty big gaps between the pan and palette. If your palette is cardboard you might be able to just gently bend it so you can shimmy your floss down or even peel the cardboard apart. You might need to use the needle to act as a blocker to keep the floss from popping back up, too!
Maybe thread would work too?
Such a creative way! Thanks
does it work with pan lipsticks too?
i really want to make my own little eye shadow palette with all the shadows I use... i have so many which i use for only 2-3 shades smh.... (naked, too faced, abh, etc)
Thank you for this top tip!
Smart but how would you do this with the Kat Von D pallets?! Their so tight together with the pallet with no gaps....
#stoptheviolence how fun is this! Thanks for the tut
i'm hoping this trick will work when i try to depot all the shadows, cheek colors, and lip colors from the bazillion deck of scarlet palettes i've amassed over the months. the colors are great but i can rarely get one look out of a single palette so having them in my own magnetic palette would be a huge help.
Such a greate trick. Thx a lot. I am ging to change eyeshadows in my Huda Desert Dusk because i hate the two violett ones so much, u can't look at it, but like the rest.😂
do you know where I could purchase the magnetic pans that come with the z pallete? pls could you find me a link xxxx
+Charlotte Gilligan I think I bought mine off Amazon. The empty pans are here: smile.amazon.com/Myo-Palette-Eyeshadow-Responsive-Palettes/dp/B00FGRD784/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1458778354&sr=8-2&keywords=empty+z+palette+pans
I like this method too! I wonder why? ;-) Good job, soon you will be customizing your Urban Decay palettes!
Olivia J Thank you! A link to your blog was added to the description box. :)
You are a sweetheart!
Subscribed because of the beginning 😂💀
OMG I depoted the same stila palette! the glue really got stuck on mine and then one of the shadows fell out of the pan...but still it was awesome.
Great tips, thank you
Finally! Thank you 😃
Sameena Arr Thank you for watching! I hope you found it helpful!! :)
THANK YOU YOU SAVED MY LIFE
i feel like this may keep me out of the emergency room lol. thank you!
Good luck!
HEY BABES!!!! Let me help you out real quick and make your "depotting" makeup life easier!!!!!! IIIIFFFFF the palette is CARDBOARD BASED.....wait for it....TEAR OFF THE CARBOARD FIRST!!!!!! start at the corners and slowly take it off.....or rip it off all in one go like i did for one of my UD palettes. it came off SO EASILY!!! and then i took a thin metal nail file and took each shadow off without cracking, bending, shattering, etc. taking of the glued piece of paper at the back of the pan was the most time consuming (about 7 minutes total...YES!).
For plastic palettes.....not there yet. i can get back to you on that if you want!
yeah but sometimes you don't want to destroy the packaging.
Hilarious video, thank you great tutorial!
Great job!!!
Thanks will give it try
Genius!! What a clever idea! tfs :)
This only works for cheaply packaged cardboard Otherwise ridiculously hard. Thank though because it does work on my cheap pallets
do you think it would work on coastal scents pallete too?
+Dina Oktarina Ibrahim As long as there is room to get the floss between the pan and the palette, you can use this method! Sometimes there is a super tight space between the side of the pan and the palette so you'll have to use heat for that. I've had success with this method on a lot of palettes, though!!
ARMYYY
thank god i found this i have to depot an entire morphe pallet and i wasnt abt to set fire to it in my tiny apartment id pass out
Did it work on your morphe palette?
We are friends 😝 friends that stab each other
Using this trick on a cardboard urban decay cheek palette I’ve used up two of the shades and want to put the other two in my z palette but Oof my floss keep breaking when I tug I finally got one out though haha
useful tips even after 7 years :)
can this be done and leave the package looking flawless?
If you're super careful, I think you could pull it off. :)
very helpful!! :)
BamBe FabuLash Thank you! :)
Super helpful
How do you get that glue off after depotting? Or do you leave it on? Lol
+Neesie L You can rub the glue off with rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab. :)
+Eyes On Allison thanks 😉
Thank you!
Thats a card board package, why couldnt you just rip it off so you can have a better acces and puch the pan from the back of the main board?
E O she said it before she started: not every package is cardboard so this method would work for any type of material. It’s for illustration purposes.
What if there is no gap really? My sister has the jeffree star Platinum ice pallertte, and one of the shades is way to light for her. So she wants to get out that one shade, without messing up the packaging too much (it's cardboard) , that's the same reason she dosent want to use heat. But there is pretty much no gap, maybe a tiinyyyy bit, but not really.. we can't figure it out!
That is really hard, I think your only option would be to rip the packing apart at that point. You can always try other strings that are maybe thinner than dental floss (like fishing line or clear string) but if you can't get between the pan and the packaging and don't want to use heat or ruin the palette, I don't think you'll be able to get it out.
Shelby Hetrick hey, have you managed to depot the platinum ice palette? Because I’m thinking of buying it but it is way to big for travel so i thought i would depot the ice cold shade and put it in a small zpallete type of a palette and leave the rest of them in the original packaging
Yes i did!! It was super easy! You have to do it with heat though. I just did the straightner technique and it worked like a charm!
I just made sure to keep the heat only underneath that shade, sense it is on the corner end , and not in the middle, it was super easy to do without messing up the rest of it!
Shelby Hetrick oh good, thank you so much ❤️
Hey there. Have you tried depotting a makeup revolution palette with any success yet?
Fiona Stacey Unfortunately, I don't own a MUR palette BUT if you can see metal pans around the shadows you should still be able to use this technique. The palette I depotted here was cardboard and I could have just ripped it apart to depot easier but chose to show the technique with floss because not all palettes are cardboard and it looks like the MUR palette is hard plastic. Just use the same technique with a pin to help guide the floss between the pan and palette (there should be a tiny gap) and slowly push the floss down until you can get under the pan, then slowly start to rock the floss back and forth to break the seal of the glue. The glue is not going to be the entire length of the pan (the MUR pans look really long) so you should be able to shuffle the floss down until you hit the glue and then that's when the work begins. :) I hope that helps!
tutorial roughly starts at 1:25
Thank you!!!!!!! Genius!
So helpful and funny 😂
Genius!
YAYYY!
hahahahahahahaha i love the beginning of this video 😂😂😂
I'm literally deporting the same pallette what a coincidence!!
I actually ended up ripping my palette up to get to the main layer where the glue is 😂
Ummm no, what a waste of beautiful packaging
Nelley it’s literally just decorated cardboard I don’t care less about packaging I just want the product itself
It's about the product not cheap cardboard
but my palate has no mother flipping gaps between the pan and plastic caseeeeeee
The palette is literally cardboard.... Why not just tear it?
Becky Limbaugh Yes, it’s cardboard and easy to rip, but I did it this way to show the floss technique as not all palettes are made of cardboard.
@@EyesOnAllison ahhhh.... Makes sense.
New SUB
@makeupbytiffanyd
I just rip up the cardboard on these type of palettes.
+MissHappiness36 I've ripped up cardboard palettes like this before! Great way to release any pent up anger you have! Haha! I used floss for the sake of demonstrating how to depot using it. :)
Me and my bf watched it together, you are so funny we were like LOLing
Thank you!😂💄
