At @14:03 those spinning shafts would have been powering various individual machines which themselves did not require a separate motor. One large engine provided power to turn the shaft, then individual machines would be switched on/off the supply shaft to turn on/off individual machines. Yes, lower level drive shafts provided belt connected power to the machines on the floor above. Photo at @18:27 the machine at the back/left appears to have a wooden rectangle shaped pipe feeding the machine from the floor above. In ways, similar to wooden pipe organ pipes. Good explore, thanks. 👍
Wow! Wish I was young again. Actually discovered a bunker myself in September full of bats. Turned out to be an underground reservoir but still was exciting anyhow. Keep going and making the vids coz they are great and you love making them and that's what important in life. All the best 👍
Thanks lads for this extra video which I found really interesting from both the video content, but also the history lesson that came with it. Although I am one of your older followers, I had never heard of these facilities despite a considerable amount of post war history and nuclear information having been talked about both in school and from older family members. Love the idea of videos being more regular, but understand your other commitments such as study/work. Thanks.
Totally, not even that large either so securing it for the public wouldn’t be that tricky. Hopefully it can happen, but it has already happened to other underground flour mills in the country
Was it humid down there ? that is a lot of rust. That would also explain the air handler system. So cool though. I had never heard of these places before. Great Job Guys..!!
Are you Maltese if you are I am astonished as there are 7 of these underground mills in Malta one in Gozo at Xlendi. the best prseved one is in Xemxija ruclips.net/video/92CJLNaXzUg/видео.html

big wheels are called a line shaft, belts are attached to run various machinery, like a big PTO power take off... very cool
Great vlog as always. Well explained and told. Good job you didn't get lost in those tunnels. Could become an exhibition for future generations.

The frozen typewriters are evidence of how high it was. I have a typewriter from the 1890's that I pulled from the ground in better shape.
Flower dust also is explosive. Clearing it out is a good idea. Overheated pulley bearings are usually the ignitor.

Opuntia (prickly pear) cactus from the US, not the African euphorbia. A garden or a cochineal farm escape.
