Greene's voice breaking when she sings this is pure genius, it makes the emotions her character is going through seem far more real then if the breaks weren't there.
Pretty sure it was an accident. Just because she's a great singer doesn't mean she's perfect, stop trying to make it seem so. She did not mean to sound like that.
Idgarad Lyracant With hours of rehearsals and numerous performances of her giving her all, it was bound to happen. But to me it still sounds beautiful. It shows the power and passion she's putting into it which NO new artists seem to know how to do anymore.
Willow Harper I’m not sure where you heard that but it’s false. Ellens father sadly passed away in 1970 when she was just 19 years old. This performance was filmed in 1998 and she was in her late 40s.
This is why I love Broadway, the raw emotion of the singing, you don't see her moving like that I the movies and I believe it's one of the things that makes the experience, love Suddenly Seymour!
@@bryanabriz508 Not originally. It started at a small off-Broadway company in 1982, the WPA Theatre, then transfered to an off-Broadway theater on 2nd Avenue, the Orpheum, where I believe it had a 5-year run. There was a Broadway production (2003, I think), but the current, extremely successful NYC revival is once again off-Broadway, at the Westside Theatre (mid-town).
I've seen the movie so many times but just saw this for the first time and man she can sing her ass off. She is absolutely talented and amazing. The truly sad thing is that musicians nowadays can't hold a candle to her, she is truly gifted.
F-ing insane track and for me personal one of the best tracks ever written for a musical, the song has such magical depressing build-up towards anger and happiness, this in combination with a mind-blowing performance by Ellen Greene, there's probably no-one in the world who can do better, she's here "THE" definition of a perfect character study that she puts on screen (movie) as set (stage-play). Take the time and effort to see the clip from the very 1st second and just follow the flow of Ellen till she opens all registers of her character! Mind boggling performance!
I'm not shure wether it'd dumb it down or not character-wise, but I'd prefer clearer transitions between the character's voice and Greene's magnificent one, and longer stretches of Greene. That voice shines through as amazing, but it's forced down by either the actor's or the instructor's choices concerning the character, which kind of ruins it all for me.
Her voice and character makes this show, I'm so glad she was in the movie. I have seen this countless times on stage but no actress I've ever seen has given that edge and depth to the character of Audrey like Ellen Greene did. She IS Audrey, all others are mild imitations
Frist time I saw Ellen Green was Littls Shop of Horrors and when she Belted out the song Suddemly Seymore I feel head over heels in love with her. And if I didn't already know she's got a Sweetheart I'd wanna grab that girl up as soon as I could. What talent! WOW!
Yeah, that's pretty much what happened to me, Steven, back in the Eighties! Wow, what a personality, what a voice, what sultry sexiness, and what an alluring body. She's got it all....mmmm!!!!
Thank God for the artists in the world that make this place livable for people that love beauty. Today trash is held in high esteem by idiots that have taken over the world. Ellen by far does the best of anyone with this song, year after year.
Since you seem to be looking for a fight, I'll not engage your ridiculous remark that you KNOW isn't true, but you LIKE confrontation. NO...billions of people think differently than I do and I still have love for them. The "idiots" are those like yourself maybe that look to make this world upsetting do that we all must be on our guard looking for criminals attacking us, lowering our standards that made this country great ONE TIME......hurting those around them and stealing, robbing lying and deceiving everyone. In other words those that simply have disdain for society and do everything their way, no matter who it hurts or disturbs. You see I'm a decorated soldier that can say what I wish even if you don't like it. Some of us fought to make this country great at one time or had you forgotten like everyone else? If this doesn't apply to you, then I'm sorry but since you didn't have ONE SINGLE KIND word to say other than attack, my guess is you don't mean any praise.
I've been listening/watching the movie since 1986 I was 6 yrs. old and I'm pretty sure Audrey was my first crush, I'd love to see the show on Broadway with Ellen in it.
Audrey could have easily been a one dimensional character made for laughs, but Ellen brings her to life. Growing up we were... economicly challenged. I've met many people like Audrey, and I think Ellen's performance honors them wonderfully.
Man can she bloody sing! I don’t think she’s aged a second since 1986. I was obsessed with this movie amongst a few musicals that literally defined my childhood. I always loved her character and can do a damn good impression of her.
Wow... that ending gave me goosebumps.. I love Little Shop of Horrors and Ellen Greene has such a beautiful powerful voice! Makes me want to go watch the movie now.
Must be a special one off show. That kind of singing cannot be sustained in a theatrical run, so much, much respect to her for giving it ALL. Absolutely blown away by this.
Imagine having a voice that powerful and just squeaking really softly even in song for like half the time in a soundtrack. Only halfway through Suddenly, Seymour you can finally hear the engine revving, at least in the movie. Her voice is just incredible. Damn.
Watching this scene in the movie is one of my earliest memories. I was maybe 3 years old at the time. This movie is not really suitable for kids that age, but it had a profoundly positive effect on me, and is the reason why I love musicals so much as an adult. This performance is beautiful. Her voice is so perfect for this song that it breaks my heart.
I've seen 5 or 6 different showings of this scene with her on various stages, at different ties, and WOW can she make magic! Every. Single. Time. .. Her partners have been of talents up and down the scale. Jake Gyllenhaal, and this guy, among the best -- not easy keeping up with pipes like hers -- but, no doubt, nobody can reach the pinnacle of her "Audrey".
no existe ni existira jamaz nadie que pueda interpretar esta cancion como ella, me toca el alma cada vez que la escucho, mi admiracion por ella es completa
Mundomagic this information is false. I don’t know who is spreading it. Ellens father died in 1970 when she was 19 years old. This performance is from 1998 and she’s in her late 40s here.

Aww, that's what I was told at the time - I was clearly misinformed. Perhaps it was one of the "litany of people who have gone" instead. Still a bloody powerful performance though.
I wanted to quote you on another video where someone made nasty comments about her singing, but I thought I should look it up first. But it is an amazing performance. Gave me chills.
LOL. Good job calling these people out on their blatant lies. They try to seem smart and important by spreading stupid lies, then when you call them out on it, they want to act like it was a mistake LOLOL!

This song is so emotional. It brings me to tears and I feel silly. But that's brilliant songwriting and performances
I've seen the movie so many times but just saw this for the first time and man she can sing her ass off. She is absolutely talented and amazing. The truly sad thing is that musicians nowadays can't hold a candle to her, she is truly gifted.
For sure! Her singing rocks!
Wow, she hasn’t aged a bit and her voice is sooo soulful
Although her voice is rather unusual for my taste, the emotion that she put into that....WOW....put tears in my eyes.

I agree strongly = one of the best-ever musical moments in stage& film, and nobody ever will compare to miss Ellen Greene.

(actress*, in my mother tongue "actor" is used for both sexes)
Ellen Greene will always be my favorite Audrey. So sweet with a voice that can bring down the house.
Ellen Green breaks my heart. No one will ever top her.

After a 10 hour work shift, having to listen Radio 1....this is just the tonic.
Ellen Greene is amazing.
She's so precious, amazingly talented, and just perfect overall.
What an amazing woman.
Wow. Just wow.Ellen Greene never lost it. Voice is still beautiful.
A real talent
She was 110% in character. Remember when actors did that?

nonstop goosebumps from 5:30 all the way to the end. wow.
this performance is in the Top Ten of the second half of the 20th Century. Ellen is indelible
Audrey's fragility has always touched me so deeply. Ellen really knows how to make me cry.
I feel like crying after watching this
anyone notice @ 5:46 theres a screech coming from Ellen? She did a magnificent, astounding job! Singers like these don't come by often
This was 3 years ago? Damn
I'll have what she's having
It was published on RUclips 3 years ago. It could have been filmed a while ago but I agree she's aged well
edward doherty its actually from hey mr producer! it was like tribute of the best of musicals around 1990. my mum had the video haha

Obviously, sherlock, it wasn't a real production, as they clearly just sang through 3 of the top songs of the show.
5:44 my favorite moment
i never knew who she was and she is great. throught the whole movie she was mousy till this song wow i love her
17 people who down voted this must have auditioned for, rehearsed and the put on this same show 2 times a day for months on end.

An updated Judy Garland...The little girl with the big voice

I love that she stays in character from the movie and doesn't change for the stage.

"I am the walrus i speak for the walrus g*ds" . up until 5:47 I LOVE her.

Howard Ashman. We lost you too soon.
Who played Seymour in this performance?
I have no idea, but he ruined everything..
Where do I go to meet women like that?
+AlyoshaK The Gutter, it's a night spot.

Somewhere that's green.
Oh she went somewhere that's green. She became Plant food . I saw the original ending .
What is this from?
Who’s the guy? Where when is this from?
