Had the grind for the first time. My CTR had 650 miles and I was making a right turn during my shift. Took me by surprise since it never did it until then and I've been following your transmission issues since you've been posting. That grind is painful!
it sucks, and the fact that it does it mostly during cornering is very interesting, I'll have to report that to Honda
I had the first to second gear grind during a turn as well, I was kind of pushing it a little bit, but nothing too crazy, and I believe I was at about 800 Miles the first time it happened
Just normal shifting? I get it sometimes on my Si but I think it’s because I’m not pulling it back enough on 2nd gear🤔🤷🏻♂️
Yes regular shifting, it has only happened twice to me and I think one of the times it might have been my fault, not sure, but the other time I know I had the clutch all the way in.
I have a 2018 Civic Si, so far even with very aggressive driving I have never experienced a grind, just notchiness in the first to second and sometimes third to 4th. I have two quarts of Amsoil Synchromesh, looking forward to changing out my stock fluid at my next oil change
I have a 2017 Honda civic Si I have the same issues how did u end up fixing the notchingness?
Adjust your clutch master... That way it builds more pressure.. Also read forums. Fk8 had same issues as you. The slave was getting hot and boiled. Swap to dot 4 synthetic brake fluid. Adjust your clutch master. Bet ya your problems will go away or at least be minimal. Older gen civic here.. Been threw this stuff already. Typical k series stuff my dude. Nothing to special about the type r trans to my 8th gen trans.
If that does not fix it then ya you messed up your gears and you may as well just build it the trans with good aftermarket gears.
I agree, these things will probably be one of the fixes for the transmission, but it's a new car, top of the line Civic, I shouldn't have to get under the car and throw parts at it, from my own pocket, in the freezing cold, for a car I just paid 37K for...
8th gen owners had to do the same stuff.. I honestly would try adjusting your clutch master. Its free.. Takes 5 minutes and was the issue why my gen would have second gear lockout and grinding issues.
It's a bone-stock Type-R. You should be able to beat on it without changing a damn thing. There's no Honda that I know of that from the factory can hit the track and not have some overheating issues of one kind or another, never mind some fundamental design flaw that makes the tranny grind when shifting under power in a turn (by the way I experienced this in EVERY manual Honda/Acura I ever drove in my life).
Adjusting doesn’t fix grind. Synchros are crap
Speaking of shifting...that shift knob is freezing in the winter!! I can even feel it thru my glove. Good to hear the new fluid shows some improvement in the R tranny. Too bad it hasn’t fully solved your issues.....
Geez my SI burns me in the summer!
I hear you're getting a new gear knob Throbber
FlyinGato I need to get one. That thing gets cold!!!!!
Thanks for the video I was watching all your video and it was very helpful deciding to hold or not buying Type R
happy to help!
Thanks for the transmission update! I guess i have to watch a few more of your videos before buying this car.
yea if I were you I would hold off for a while until Honda figures this out. I'm kind of tired of dealing with this issue myself...
copied from elsewhere " i had some grind issues on my civic si 2008 2 years ago, i went on many forums on internet and started searching for answers. Saw that many people also experienced that problem. I found my solution on one of them. One dude being a mechanic was telling us to adjust the cruise control ring near the clutch resulting in giving more space for the clutch to trigger. Took 5 mins to do, no tool needed, just hands and since that experienced no grinding at all. Shifting has become very smooth."
definitely have to look into that... If it's this simple why has Honda not implemented this fix?
cruise control ring near the clutch huh? Interesting.
Don't know if there are any synchro issues with the new typeR's. But for Type R vehicles. Use only Honda Antifreeze , Use only Honda MTF3 Transmission Fluid - If used for racing purposes should be changed with every engine oil Change. Tatsuru Ichishima sayin on a best motoring episode. We been runinng TypeR's since early 2000's here and never went wrong with that :)
StephanK330 agreed with you bro. need to use mtf3 only for type r has lsd on it
I was hoping that, from the factory, the car would be perfect, but it's not. That's the only reason I'm trying out new fluids...
Alright Bro , let us know whats goin on then ..
Liked. Another great video. I really hope they compensate you with more than just replacement parts. That is terrible to have to live with that for so long.
Thanks Jonah, it has gotten pretty annoying, I'm getting pretty fed up at the problem
My 06 SI had same problem. It’s a crime Honda still hasn’t fixed this issue yet.
yea it's nuts
nice vid bro! been a month since i got mine its summer here now and havent experienced any grinds, hopefully never when winter comes
I hope yours stays free of grinds, it's a blast of a car to drive around.
Dam nice stretch of road. I like how the traction control light goes crazy when putting down the hammer. I've got some skinny winter tires on my 2.0NA and can also getting TC to go crazy, which is cool. Makes me feel like I got some beans under the hood. I've noticed that your gear shifts are quick, even in normal driving. Trying slowing it down a smidgen and see if it makes a difference.
yea, slowing down helps, except the 5th to 4th lockout, that issue isn't resolved by slower shifting. Also, none of my other cars seem to mind years and years of the same shifting speed, I feel like this Type R should be able to handle everything I throw at it and then some.
If it doesn't graunch the 1st to 2nd gearchange when doing double declutching, then that points to only one thing - a synchro issue. I had problems with 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd gear graunching with a 1992 Toyota Corolla when new. The dealer ended up replacing the entire 2nd and 3rd gear assemblies, solving the problem. They admitted that there was an issue with the synchroniser cones and, more importantly, the synchro cone springs, which were weak, causing the synchro to be unable to speed up the gear, when upshifting, or slow it down, when downshifting. That's your issue.
Mate, get onto Honda in your country, and make them fix it up.
Please keep us posted.
+austprodriver I'm calling them on Tuesday first thing, I'm pretty much fed up with the car
The Honda disease is alive and well. If you don't install carbon synchros and do "spirited" driving all the Honda manual transmissions seem to do this. I belt it hurts like hell spending all that money on a brand new car that is fundamentally flawed. It's because Honda has notoriously fragile transmissions that I unfortunately will not even consider anything Honda/Acura in the foreseeable future.
it's very unfortunate. It's so frustrating that I'm starting to rethink my "manuals only" policy.
I had a 2005 RSX Type-S and it was great (still haven't changed my thumbnail). Bought it for $9,400 CAD in 2015 and sold it for $2,750 this March - this after dumping in close to $20,000 on repairs and upkeep. It was completely insane money-wise and shattered my perception of Hondas being reliable.
I now drive a 2015 Audi S3 (bought it for $41,750 CAD w/ 55k kms on it) and it's an order of magnitude of an improvement over the RSX in every possible way (aside from the clutch pedal). I took it to Shannonville and on my 3rd lap I shaved 15 seconds off my best RSX time, took it to Cayuga and was only like 5-7 seconds slower than a R35 GT-R on a cold, wet track (I did a 1:27 in the wet at 7 celcius with Blizzak LM001 winter tires fitted). In deep snow from a standstill I plant my foot into the gas pedal and it still pins you in the seat as you accelerate up a hill. Every single stop light I make the guy next to me look slow and pathetic. I can do all the above while dressed in a suit or in a hoodie and sweat pants. It's got looks for every occasion, it's 100% reliable where every single damn thing is working, even the brake pads still have life on them after 2 track days and a year's worth of daily driving and who knows what the previous owner did with them.
I recommend the S3 over the Golf R because the Golf R feels like a boat compared to the Audi. There's next to zero body roll in the S3. Test drive an S3 and then immediately after get into a Golf R and you will be so completely underwhelmed with the R that you will wonder how is it even based on the same drivetrain.
There's really nothing else in the price range that can compete. If you want to go fast and love manuals, get the Ford Focus RS, but the motors have been blowing head gaskets left right and center due to a fundamental design flaw (when cold the cylinders warp and allow coolant to flow past the head gasket eventually killing the motor).
In the end, if you can give up on the idea of having a manual and instead focus on reliability and lap times, you will see that a whole new world of possibility opens up. If you're ever in Toronto I'll take you for a rip in my bone-stock S3 and will do a few launch control pulls and you can even time it to see if the extra 24 horsepower in the Type-R can make up for it (I promise you it cannot).
Oh and if you can finance an RS3 and put in ~$3,000 worth of APR parts - ECU, trans computer, etc. You will be making around 500 horsepower on 91 octane all while having a very reliable ride with zero issues. It's only a tad bit more expensive than the Type-R. There's no way in hell you can ever get +100 HP on any Honda with bolt-ons for under $10,000. Just food for thought...
Thank goddness, my 2020 Type R doesn't grind, maybe my beloved Honda has made some changes to it. I may be lucky, but it is what it is. Just please don't push the car to its limit, because it is a work of art.
Feel sorry for you! You could probably fix this eventually with slave mods, clutch oil change etc. since you are able to quite easily create the problems on video I suggest that you should step up with Honda and demand them to fix it once and for all. It is simply crazy that you should accept this. Your syncros are not doing well by now, their lifetime must have seriously been affected so even if you finally get it fixed Honda should replace at least the syncros for you as well. In US the clients have so much more to say then here in Europe =( I would recommend to step up your game with your dealer, you have been very patient and kind with them.
Next week I will be stepping it up with Honda, I'm actually getting to the point where I don't want to drive the car much anymore.
Sup man! Glad you're still enjoying the Type R! I still hate the fact you spend that kinda money on a bad ass car and it's still not even 100% from the factory, the struggle. Typical Honda trans, I run amsoil in my s2ks as i'm sure you do as well!
What up Duncan! I definitely run Amsoil in my S2000 transmission, shifts like butter! I miss my S2000, but I won't take it out when there is so much gravel and salt in the area
I believe it man! I'm still potentially wanting to get a CTR if the prices drop, no telling if that will happen though. I'd love to have one!
I have to admit, it is still a beast of a car.
It absolutely is, I just don't know if I can justify spending that sorta cash for one though. I'd be terrified to drive it and if something bad were to happen i'd freak lmaooo! I've owned 31 cars, mostly Hondas and Acuras though!
Unbelievable that Honda still hasn't perfected the k-series trans in the 16 years it's been available. The RSX-s, 8th gen Civic Si, and now the type R.
I hear the manual V6 accords have issues too
FlyinGato you're right, they do, also. My father and father in law both have '14 Accord Sport 6 speed manuals and they both have shifting issues.
Hope this helps: Hey Honda, I was considering buying the Type R for my son. After watching the runaround Elias has gone through with his transmission, despite his cooperative diligence, this generation Type R is no longer a car I would consider buying. I suspect this is also true for most of his ~4400 subscribers. That's a lot of lost sales! ... and precisely from the demographic that was most likely to buy this car - the enthusiasts.
unfortunately I think you're right, if I were someone watching my videos to see if I were to buy the Type R, I would definitely think long and hard now that I keep seeing these issues. Maybe I'll switch it up for a 2018 WRX, which will need a tune to get rid of the rev hang. Or, maybe I should just get a second S2000 and just daily drive that while I get a truck...
FlyinGato The problem is that you will incur 100% of the depreciation at trade in and that just isn't fair considering how your passion for the car motivated your diligence, cooperation, patience and the benefits of doubt you extended Honda. You might want to explore an affordable attorney. (By the way, I'm not an attorney.) Perhaps their letterhead alone might get Honda to compensate you for the problem. It seems to me they should absorb a signicant portion of the depreciation because you wouldn't even be considering trading it if it weren't for the transmission issue. Anyway, I don't mean to bum you out or stick my nose in. I just have kids your age and I could see your excitement about the car and I just find it uncool. That's all I'll say. I hope you get it worked out to your satisfaction. Peace.
You're absolutely right. I'd rather just have an awesome little hot hatch that I can take out for some fun and just do cool stuff in, and not have to worry about my transmission going out. I'm going to give it a little bit more time (not much) and see what happens. I'll be getting in touch with Honda ASAP
So I own a jeep renegade 1.4 turbo I had a second to third gear issue as well as a first to second. I upgraded to a polyurethane trans mount and engine mount and now my issue is completely fixed. What I suspected was a lot of play causing the transmission and engine to move hard under full throttle causing the gears to grind and seem to have found my solution
I'll have to look into that, but to be honest with you, I'm already a bit tired having to deal with a brand new car with issues.
That 📦 in the rear seats is breaking my nerves.
sorry bud, I was doing some delivery runs.
My 8th gen si did the same, change the oil, new cmc and slave cylinder problem fixed. 😀
would love to do that, but I want Honda to pay for it.
Ugh, it seems they haven't figured out how to build a 6 speed transmission yet. They've issued service bulletin after service bulletin for years for their 6 speed transmission issues. I owned a Type S RSX for several years and had nothing but issues with shoddy synchros - especially 2nd gear. I tried different fluids, bleeding the slave cylinder, adjusting the master cylinder push rod, did motor mounts, shifter cable bushings, etc. etc. No avail. This is ridiculous in a brand new $35k car with a 10 grand markup!
luckily I only paid 37.5, but still...
It just baffles me that Honda has not pulled it out and inspected it, I get that the synthetic oil helped the shifting being as the factory fill in early 90's was 5w30 engine oil and now it's Honda MTF witch pours and looks the same. Putting in and trying a synthetic was a good idea to improve low temp shifting. Honda has the best manual front wheel drive box in my opinion but for years they have been having grinding issues and I can't believe it's migrated to the R with how great this car is. Good to hear that you have a good repor with the dealer but you may have to pressure them a bit more. As far as the lock out is concerned that's one I am still trying to figure out. Wish I could drive a car that did that, should not be that hard to figure out... did they pull out the oil pump strainer and check for any metal particles when they swapped out your oil ?
Why dont you just get it replaced under warranty
If Honda would do it, I totally would.
Its quite a small percentage of type r's with the problem so there is a very good chance of it being ok after a box swap (thats what they do nowadays. they dont fix the dodgy box anymore) unlike the rs focus in which the majority of cars have been affected.
thrapsed We do pull them apart and fix the Five and Six speeds still, I personally have replaced a dozen 2nd 3rd and 4th syncro sets in 06-11 Civics and it's fixed them all for the Grinding issues they had, I suspect it's the same issue with the R. It baffles me that the dealer has not pulled it apart especially with his proving and showing them it's not working properly.
Hi Canuck M here in the UK Honda just do a gearbox replacement under warranty and send the complete faulty box to Honda research & development for assessment etc. A similar gearbox problem was in the old FN2 civic Type R. The few that were affected, (there weren't that many as there aren't with the FK8 as there haven't been any problems reported in the UK to the best of my knowledge), were treated to a complete new gearbox. Honda were a bit slow off the mark getting the problem sorted but they got there after some firm words from the first few "victims". I would let them have the car for a few days to see how it behaves. In return you get a courtesy car if needed. Once they have experienced and recreated the problem the car will be fixed in no time. Its all about telling them what you want doing.
thrapsed that's good that they will swap it out complete , especially since this seems like a isolated problem . In Canada we have to swap out Auto boxes complete , not even allowed to swap bad sensors unless it has under 20,000 km on them, the manuals they want us to pull them apart. Hopefully they find an issue and come out with a repair. For us it has to go from Honda Canada then to USA Honda then Japan and back again before we get any kind of fix for anything :)
At this point shouldn’t you be nearing lemon law qualification?
yea but I'm not going to go that route too many hoops to jump through
Honda build quality and reliability is garbage today, especially with cars they make in the US. This is ironic because the older Hondas were boring but could take a beating. I had a 2017 Ridgeline for 6 months and had to dump it fast...worst built vehicle I've ever experienced.
Nick Eckemoff Toyota is most reliable brand no one come close to them
I would get a Toyota 86 instead of a type R just cause the transmission problems
I don't know what happened! I have a 5th gen prelude and that thing took a beating day in, day out, and 10 years later it's still going...
FlyinGato old days Hondas are the best build quality is way better not even close from today
Dude get Honda to change your gearbox asap you're going to have no 2nd gear synchros left to grind. This is bullshit. How can you enjoy the car like that, it wrecks the whole experience for you. I would be contacting Honda and tell them to replace the whole gearbox. If they swap it and it still grinds tell them to refund you. They can't sell cars with gearbox issues brand new from factory. 😡 Not acceptable at all. I'm angry for you because I had the same issue on my old DC5R years ago and I couldn't fix it no matter what oil I tried. Big let down from Honda.
it's been a huge let down for me. I finally get my hands on an awesome high performance car that handles like a dream with a gem of an engine, only to be let down by the transmission. I was looking forward to dozens of track days with this car, and some slight mods to make a few improvements here and there. Now, because of this issue, I don't even want to drive it anymore, definitely don't want to mod it like this...
I feel your pain bro. Big let down I would try to go to Honda head Office and try to talk to someone high up. Demand they fix it.
Feel bad for you. I lemoned a Brand new Honda 2.5 years ago because it was just a pos. 40 days at the dealership in the first 3 months of ownership. Honda qc has gone way downhill the last several years. The tough thing about your tranny issue is they don’t know what it is. Until they take one apart that has the issue they’re just going to go around in circles. Driving that car would not be fun for me and it will just get worse and eventually you won’t enjoy it either.
that's crazy, what happened with that Honda? What model was it? I keep hearing they are taking apart transmissions, but have yet to hear a public acknowledgement or affirmation that they are working on it.I'm starting to not want to drive it anymore...
FlyinGato 2014 civic cvt. Needed a new transmission at 1k. Car was bucking after coming to a complete stop. The gas gauge wouldn’t read full when filled up with a full tank. The gas gauge then would go down super fast and the gas light would come on with more than a third of a tank left. New gas tank, new filler neck, 2 new fuel sending units. It was a disaster.
My dealership rented me 5 different cars from the end of October 2014 to early January 2015 , when I filed suit in court with a lemon law attorney. Drove the car for 5 more months and Honda bought it back, gave me all my monthly payments and down payment back, less 162 dollars for fair use (before I first complained to the dealership about issues) which was at about 1100 miles.
The gas tank/gauge issue was there from day one. Then the tranny issues happened around 1800 miles.
Someone bought it titled lemon at auction and then they were trying to sell it on Craigslist. I feel bad for the person who didn’t do their homework and bought it from the person who bought it from auction. Because they didn’t need to disclose all the issues. Only when it was first sold at auction did there need to be a report about why it was lemoned and what the original owner (me) complained about and what was done to rectify it. Someone got screwed with that vehicle because there was other shit wrong that I never even got to addressing as I already knew it was a lemon and i was letting the dealership do their due dilligence before I filed suit under CA lemon law.
It was a huge headache and stressfulI dealing with the dealership and honda tech line. They had no effin clue what was going on with the car.
Darn. I was hoping the oil would work 😔.
I am starting to think, Honda is trying to
put bandaids on an underlying flaw. The
trans cooler may be one of those bandaids.
It’s hard for me to understand why Honda would
have such difficult time coming up with a 6 speed that
can hand 300 hp? It’s really not that much of an
engineering challenge considering all the other features
of this car. Maybe they cut some corners. Maybe the manufacturing
process is inconsistent. Maybe the schedule was running short
and they released a design before it was ready? I don’t know.
It isn’t what I expect from Honda.
I think it might have been a schedule thing, they may have rushed this to production to compete with the RS and Golf R
FlyinGato If so, I am disappointed
I treasure Honda for there lack of shipping
‘Under baked’ products. Customers should not be a
beta test lab. Make me angry 😠
Can you confirm with other type r owners if the grinds are happening with later production cars. Maybe even a 2018 owner has it or not
too early to tell, the 2018s just started to roll out.
I have a 2018 and it did happen twice so far, I’m only at 1600 miles so it’s not that often
This is ridiculous. If you have to use non oem parts or fluids to enjoy your car, there is something terribly wrong. Especially for a brand spanking new car.
I have to agree with you there...
Came here for pov driving only!
But feel sorry for the problem
Glad you like it!
put in 5w-30 or 0w-40. Do not recommend to use a 0w-20 in a turbo car
Paul Saari which of the 2 types of oil would you recommend for daily driving around the city? 5w-30, or 0-40? What is the difference between the 2? I have heard that using 0w-20 isn’t the best for the car.
Try double-clutch ...
Press the clutch pedal, shift to neutral -release - press - shift to 2nd gear.
I'm very courious will it grind or not...
I've done it with a double clutch, it doesn't grind.
👍
Just as I thought. With a little practice, you'll do it faster and faster every time... As a temporary solution, not bad, I think...
Mine grinds 2 lbs when cold but dbl clutching it or waiting an extra second to go into 2nd it won't.
@@FlyinGato since double clutching works, you can try rev matching on upshifts and downshifts.
Hey Flyingato, a friend of me, had the same problem in his fk2. the ar now going to change the syncrho's in the gearbox. maybe its the same problem in the FK8?
It could be, I just don't like to hear the trans crunch the gear like that...
Hey Elias. Is the amsoil syncromesh fluid all the same oil weight or what weight are you using . Thanks in advanced
Hi Eric, they are all the same weight, 5w-30
Eric Estrada If you want the truly best synthetics check out www.schaefferoil.com. SINCE 1839 AND MADE IN USA!
experienced the 1-2 grind twice in 3000 miles but I have noticed when the cars been sitting my 3rd gear is very notchy/gritty for the first few shifts no matter how long I warm the car up for. Hoping the synchromesh fixes that
Try changing the clutch fluid. If the clutch fluid have air or old it will give you a shitty 1 and 2 shifts
I would concider to use Xado additive for manual transmission.
5th to 4th gear lock out
Might be overly simplistic but has anyone tried turning off the auto Rev match and see if the lock put still persist?
I always drive with it off, but I've tried with the system on and off, seems to not affect the issue.
Same here in my car. The car grinds when shifting in the corners
I'm thinking turning has something to do with the grinds.
Don't know, but I know sometimes it does the same when shifting in R mode and in a corner.. Not as often as with yours tho
Ultimately, this is the reason I won't be buying the CTR. I can't deal with the 1st to 2nd gear grind. I had a 2002 Acura RSX Type-S that did the same thing. 15 years to fix the problem.
I can't blame you! What are you getting instead?
Carbon synchros fix the issue. Also look at the differences between the 2003-2004 vs 2005-2006 USDM/CAD RSX Type-S transmissions in terms of synchro materials. If you want something reliable, get something like the 2009 Civic Si manual transmission and change the final drive (5.3 if I can recall correctly). While you're taking it apart, replace all the damn synchros with carbon ones. Do this once and you have a very damn reliable tranny. It's what I was forced to do because I don't have the time to keep fixing the stupid inherent Honda design flaws.
Oh and do yourself a favor and get the K-Tuned tranny shifter bushings (replace with all metal) for a solid feel to get rid of the slop (it will NOT reduce comfort, only the slop). Also I highly highly recommend Hasport motor mounts all around especially for the firewall side thrust mount. A shifting motor while changing gears affects many things that could lead to mis-shifts, grinds, etc. My RSX was a daily driver in downtown Toronto traffic and I broke the (factory) plastic firewall thrust mount 2 times in 1 year before I replaced all the mounts.
Probably just a hatchback sport with 6-speed.
Seriously man. I love the new Type R...but I'm quietly enraged to hear of the same old BS we'd been dealing with since owning RSX Type S models from 2002.
Are the others experiencing this issue based in the US? I have never heard about FK2 transmission problems, are they the same?
I've been getting messages worldwide with these issues.
I got the fk2, and it's the same unfortunately
Interesting. First time I'm hearing about it. Are the gear synchros carbon?
Maybe on the 2018 CTR they will fix the trans, hopefully
One can hope!
Maybe get a front strut mount bar?
maybe, but at this point I want the car 100% fixed by Honda, I tried fluid, I really don't want to start trying other things.
My shifter on 2021 type r is sock I use amsoil for ma civic si 2009 you use 2 or 3 battle for transmission
Haven’t had the grinding issue so far however only have 1500 miles on the type r now the break squeak is annoying I have in the past had to change fluid for grinding used royal purple syncromesh did help
Let me also add I have only got on it few times from first to second since it’s so cold in utah tires just spin lol
Yea it loves to spin the tires in this cold weather!
I must say I’m starting to have the same problems I had my type r for only a month now with 1,000 miles but I’m getting that 2nd gear grind now. I recorded 3 times and I’m just driving it normally not hard.
Get it to a dealer asap!
FlyinGato wasn’t there a hotline number you had from your other videos?
Non car related question... what’s that song at the top?
DJ Quads I will wait
Sounds like synchros or fork bushing issue.
it does, but I'm still not sure
Needs a lighter flywheel. Trust.!! Fellow 9th 8th 5th gen owner
For sure! Would help with the tiny bit of rev hang as well
It might be hard to say from just by watching your video, but your transmission seems to be extremely notchy when your shifting gears. For fun you need to go test drive a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0T 6MT and feel how smooth that transmission is. Both the engine and transmission in the new Accord are derivatives of what's in the Type R.
+S2kDude36 I'll be driving one of them very soon, with a review of course.
One of the biggest reasons I’m going to the ny auto show is to see the type r. The cars at the Rochester auto show are provided by the dealerships and aren’t the manufacturers press fleet, so they don’t showcase the type r :/
I might be going this year, not sure yet
FlyinGato if you do i wanna meet you. I’ll be there on the Tuesday of the show and possibly the Monday afternoon.
I'll let you know for sure!
Honda transmission problems, this goes back to pre historic times and will never change. My 18 tlx transmission is a piece of shit and they’re not able to fix it. It’s my fifth Acura. Every one has had a transmission problem that they cannot fix. Get used to it
That's a real shame, the engines are so good
CAN YOU TRY ROYAL PURPLE synchromesh?!?
I'm trying GM synchro mesh now
I think you may have damaged your gears or clutch when you raced it on the track during the break in period.
Lou Laurea that’s what I said . I would never do that to a car that new but oh well
I had it on the track past the break in period. In fact, the car had over 1k miles, it was good to go. The grind happened BEFORE that track day anyway, I documented it in videos, so uhhhhh......
He had gear grind issue before track day, not after.
FlyinGato 1k is baby new but if u say u had grinds before then it’s factory defect I guess
yea it's very unfortunate, and I'm very frustrated now...
thinking of getting either a sti or type r as a daily do you think theyre worth it? or should i get a si or wrx
This is a tough question. I wouldn't get the Sti, the engine design is too old for my tastes. The Type R, at least for now, has this trans issue that Honda has not yet resolved, so I really can't recommend it to anyone until that is fixed. Ignoring that issue, if you are going to be at track days constantly, I would recommend the Type R over the rest (with that one caveat about the trans). If you are not going to wait until Honda releases a fix (if they do), I would choose between the Si and the WRX. If you live in a colder climate where it rains a lot or snows, I would choose the WRX. If you are in warmer climates, I would go Si. Be advised that you basically HAVE to tune the Si and WRX due to the terrible rev hang they both have. Hope this helps!
Between the Si or WRX I'd go with the WRX (I have one). Yes the Rev hang suck, doing a launch on the wrx you have to slip the clutch abit from 1st to 2nd. Now between the WRX or STI I'd go with STI, yes it is an old engine design (some say known for ringland failure but IMO I think it's because of WOT at low RPM on the wrong gear i.e. WOT at 5th gear @ 1500rpm, lugging the engine.) But proven. Also gear shifts are better in the STI than the WRX. WRX is notchy if your not used to it feels like your being locked out. Hope this helps.
On a note how about the 2018 honda accord 2.0t I wonder if that would have similar issues since it is using a detuned type R motor (K20c) and same transmission if I'm jot mistaken.
menswearhous - get the STI. It may be old but at least it’s proven to work properly and has pretty much all issues sorted out.
+FlyinGato I owned a 2017 wrx and traded into a 2018 sti. Older engine design or not, it’s a great car and I def don’t regret the move. The Wrx was great, offered prob 90% of what you get in the Sti, at a fraction of the price. But...bullet proof six speed, gorgeous big brake kit, and where the turbo starts dying in the rev range of the wrx, it’s coming on strong in the Sti and pulls harder to redline.
what did you pay for your 2018 sti? i was at a dealer today and the best they could do was $1000 off msrp of a base sti
Bad News😢 what your going thru smh 🤦♂️ ... I probably won’t be getting the type r in 5 months from now when my Infiniti lease is over I’ll probably won’t get the type r 😰
yea I can't blame you, unless Honda comes out with the fix that is. If Honda fixes the issue this car is totally worth it, but with this issue unresolved, I just don't think it is.
Hope u fix that problem Bro
Thanks Eddie, at this point I'm not sure I want to continue messing with it. I was hoping the Amsoil would have fixed the issue, but it doesn't...
Does the 2018 type r have the same problems?
There have been reported issues in the 2018 Type Rs as well
If honda dont want to fix it get your money back, and tell them to shove there over priced pos civic up there you know what , they are trying to take you money and run!smh
I'm hoping they fix it VERY soon
I asked my dealer to put amsoil in the transmission and they said that it would void the warranty. I just went and did it myself took less than a 1/2 hour.
Wow your dealer is not that great sounds like
@@FlyinGato Every dealership I've called in the Chicago land area refused to do it. That's why I just did it myself. They also won't fix my transmission seepage that comes from the center of the case as well . They said because I have an aftermarket clutch that that's why it's leaking lol.
civic si 8th gen all over again next the paint job... Lol
the paint hasn't been good on Hondas since... ever? lol
You should check the shifter bushing...
I will, sucks that I have to take matters into my own hands to see if I can fix it
car is a fucking joke. shame on Honda. did they even test the car? also the engines have been overheating. head gasket issues along with coolant issues. one type r owner said 2 cylinders were completely flooded with coolant after only 40 miles
Does the Type R have rev hang?
it does a little bit.
Hey hi can you tell me will 245 35-20 fit on the original Honda rimswithout causing any problems getting them or scraping the wheel Wells
Yes! That will work
@@FlyinGato thank u 245 40zr 20 s r too big right.
my transmission only grinded twice but i drive it easy so.yeah I told honda canada dealership and they didnt say anything back to me so i told them to make a not on my account.
I would not do 245 40 20 that would be too large
thank u
5 to 4th gear lock out happens when the cameras are rolling 🤣
haha, I think the car knows it's on RUclips, and it's not happy about it...
The guy abuses the car
Been through 7 RSX trans. After the 7th...I got it Built haha
+MrTDM09 damn that's insane!!! After building it any issues?
FlyinGato nope, needs to be service now, I’m 688/527 on my K24Hybrid
Stock OE gears just can’t take it in these Ks. B’s & H’s I’ve seen in person hold up better. I’m actually gonna do a video on my experience on my Built DC5 tomorrow
Happy New Year
FlyinGato and my trans is GearX***
It maybe the diff
I doubt it, I'm thinking it's a mount, or something with the shifter.
Also you said you’d open the packages you got in the last video! :(
I know, I had a change of heart on that, I'll do it on my live streams on Sunday, makes it more fun! What do you think?
FlyinGato ok sounds good! I usually can’t join the livestream cuz that’s when I work, but I always watch it when I get home :)
No worries bud, at least you get to watch it!
Too many long ads. Goodbye
poor car winter beater =(
Elias Honda transmission you Gotta be perfect the shifting and the clutch engage ig you don’t do right you going to get a grind
That's a joke. Save those kind of advice for the noobs.
What's up Miguel, I'm aware of that, my shifts are pretty much perfect everytime. I mean, my Prelude has been with me for 10 years and 150K miles, many track days, autox, etc... Trans is still going strong.
Honda transmissions have been going out now in days.
