I greatly appreciate you finding the words that I couldn’t. Because I don’t use photography to generate income, that makes me my own client and I often need reminding of happier moments that somehow have been forgotten. Thanks for the re-boot.
SO TRUE. The “effect” is the easy part. Effects can easily be studied and broken down to reproduce but THE STORY is the special part of an image and is difficult to master. Thanks for watching bud
You are so wise. An absolute breath of fresh air. Thank you so much for putting this content out in the world, I feel so inspired and so much more secure in my own ability. It's not the gear, it's your ability to spot and make connections. I couldn't agree more. Now I have to go watch every one of your videos :)
Hey bro I was invited to be at a training camp for a group of fighters. I thought it would be a great opportunity to do some photos. Your video has completely change my point of view of the type of shooting I am going to do. Thank you so much for your advice and inspiration.
Definitely helped me. Just launched a studio and I felt too comfortable/stagnant. Recreating a lot of concepts. I will be using your advice from today until forever. Thank you.
Wow, what an inspirational video, thanks so much for making this, it has helped me to refocus on my goals, especially as I am just setting up my own wedding photography business!
Great video, as always! I liked hearing your goal for when you are old and on your death bed, and how your portfolio will be interpreted. That's why I admire and do wedding photography. I love the fact that it does represent something SO important in our lives and principally in the lives of our brides and grooms. The humanity captured EVEN if the relationship doesn't last forever. Assuming most do, we create heirlooms that have the potential to last WAY beyond our lives and the lives of the couple themselves. I can see and chuckle at the idea of children fighting over who gets to keep "mom and dad's wedding album". My goal is a variation of yours. I try to create photos that, when looked at in 20, 30, 40 years later will bring tears of joy to the couples eyes. I imagine them recreating a first dance after dusting off their album and showing it to guests at a dinner party or something like that. Great video!
Well said my friend. I've been a martial artist since I was 6 years old and was fortunate enough to learn from some amazing masters of the art; you have a very eastern philosophy - and it shows in your photography, attitude and character. I love photography myself - it changes the way I see the world - I don't know if I can add to that... All the best from Canada. Chris.
Interesting...As hobbyist photographer and retired. Most of my shooting is on vacation, holiday's and my grand kids. I need to think of ways to apply what your saying. Any suggestions? Once again you video's are always very educational. Stay Safe.
Check how many Master Photographers are able doing that at the retirement stage of their lives? As we grow older, our brains aren't working at the same speed as we were young. There are too much of our past experiences filling our minds that creativity can have a hard time to compete for the same space. If we display childish innocence, then others may be starting to enroll us into the loony bins. Then there is muscle memory from shooting for over a few decades that turn capturing an image as a discovery process a different task. Hence, we may have to turn to an unfamiliar process, such as shooting with video, 360 or drone that temporarily put us into a learning and discovery mode that may help us to achieve it. 😊
Excellent Will. I think this is the most important thing that we forget about photography. We concentrate too much on the technical part and forget about the emotional part. We need to remember that every picture tells a story. I'm looking forward to your upcoming live stream this Friday. Great subjects bro, whiskey and photography! Thanks Will for another great inspirational video brother!
Wow... This right here is one of the best videos ive seen on youtube explaining how to make photographs that matter, we sometimes get lost in the technical aspects of photography we forget what matters most.. its about the massage, the emotion a photo can create...
@@TheMonochromeMemoirs I do try, my friend! Also want to tell you that I really appreciate your work, your channel and your overall aesthetic. Very well done, quality content. "Memento Mori"
That's what I love doing whenever I'm with my seniors doing their portraits, I ask them to bring personal items like a sketchbook, instrument, and if I know they're into my physical activities like dance, I have them utilize those versus just posing them. Some of my favorite shoots were when I allowed the student to do whatever they wanted (because they felt comfortable enough) and I just snapped away (every now and then throwing an instruction like "look at me" or "sit up straight").
Will thanks so much for another inspiring video..Yours words really resonate with me, you must have an old soul as you have wisdom of a much older man.. Thanks for the kind words of my portrait of "Sam"..he was a Super guy to work with. ❣️ Ken in Arizona..
With your groundstanding nature Its very nice and inspiring to watch your Channel.Thank you from germany and wish you much success in everything you do.
Will, thanks so much for this video. It was timely and right on the mark. I am personally working on the “zen” of my photography right now and you discussing the purpose really helped. Lightbulb! Thanks. On another note, I watch a select few RUclips channels of photographers but when you post, I am compelled to watch it right away. Your insights and “no bull” approach is so refreshing and honest. Thank you for that. You are appreciated.
In this video I discuss my ideas on the main objective every photographer should have when approaching a new piece of work. Hope this helps - Will

I think there is a lot of getting the “effect” while never really telling the story.

Think about showing others the magic of childhood. The way they live in the moment and look at everything like it’s new.
