Great vid! I went to the 2013 baja 1k, the guy at the beginning of this video said it best the peninsula really is its own place, the food is amazing, the people are totally friendly and everyone is there to have a great time! huge bar scene at night and tons of stuff to see durning the day just befor the prologue. I would totally recommend any gear head to go at least once.
Voice over guys voice sounds like someone you would hear voicing over a cranked out "Top Ten Awesome Travel Destinations" show on the travel channel. Meaning it's pretty good for RUclips. Keep up the good work.
+Maccaroney cliché is apropos ! I have watched the crew of a million dollar sport fisher "here in cabo San Lucas" sneak a hooker off the boat after the old dude "with the money" had a heart attack and died ! same old story ! lol guess there are worse ways right ?
I readz - about this 40 yrs ago and never stopped fixing stuff they easy way for 40 years. I just had fun and never got that into that kind of running. cheers to you though!
Love these races, my dad and his friends have raced a couple of these Norra ones just for fun for the last 10 years or do in a class 7 truck. Theres nothing like the Baja, ive been from Ensenada to La Paz about 4 times total, the sights are incredible on and off the race course
These drivers/mechanics/support teams have placed their lives/careers on the the line for this. It MUST be fun,or they wouldn't do this. Racing is very addictive,I'll admit.
Subscribed. Refreshing video, Jalopnik. I want to see real people doing real things, struggling just to get by. The LaFerrari backlash is in full effect.
This is an awesome video. I LOVE the person "subtitles/credits". "Dave Sykes: Guy with bad rear end". LMAO. "Chelsea Davidson: Very cool daughter". HA!
i live here in baja and yeah theres always races of every kid going on just yesterday there were motorcycles and cars drag racing in a water canal in the middle of the city
By the look of it, just buy an old cat ye rwd silverado and put a long travel kit upfront. In the rear, build the axle track bars and have a roll cage. Youre ready to go then. Might need to swap trans say to a turbo 400 and youre good for this race.
I wish i could be rich like the guy that just had gotten into racing willing to buy anything.. except i have the knowledge and skills just kinda lacking the money baha. i wanna do the baja 1000 one day which would be sweeet! or rally!
+Mike SOMDOW The 5/1600 class is a standard VW Bug, stock engine, stock shell, cant recall if the shocks can be up to 2inches of travel longer than a stock one, you can modify a bit the tranny, rollcage, race fuel cell, no windshield
+LUNITIC WILL seeing what they did to the viper, and how well it survived, i wish they could have kept and lifted it would have been the perfect car for this then ;)
The insane Baja race that only: documentary film fans, sports fans, car guys, offroad guys, travis pastrana fans, outdoorsmen, Mexicans and Californians have heard of
Watch the movie Dust To Glory if you haven't already. It'll get you hooked like that guy. It's on Netflix, should the pirates' life not be your style. Could probably find it for free and legitimately elsewhere, but I'm not sure.
So happy that you guys are on RUclips.
Same
McHallfin We're happy to be here. This was week one! We have 27 more episodes of these shows to come.
Same,here.
Insert thumbs up icon.

'Guy with a blown rear end' is a title to aspire to.

+Landshark! I mean, that's the dream. Isn't it?
+Maccaroney cliché is apropos ! I have watched the crew of a million dollar sport fisher "here in cabo San Lucas" sneak a hooker off the boat after the old dude "with the money" had a heart attack and died ! same old story ! lol guess there are worse ways right ?

"David hough - offroad racer" is more lit than a candle. I could feel his desire for dinner in those yearning eyes.

I really enjoyed this video. It is one of those where you could watch them forever. Please if you have more interviews of participants, share.
I shed a tear at the end. Great mini-doc!
Nice piece from 2015. That was the first time we came to Baja.
This reminds me of my favorite comic. Michel Vaillant and Julie Wood Baja 500. Those 70's baja cars, converted Muscle cars EPIC
These drivers/mechanics/support teams have placed their lives/careers on the the line for this. It MUST be fun,or they wouldn't do this.
Racing is very addictive,I'll admit.
if only football fans were this friendly with each other.

Please don't use the expression "glamorous resort town" at the same time you show uncle Bob in profile. See 7:00.

I literally only came to the comments section to see if anyone else noticed that ha

They all are. Look at almost every dude who is talking. Especially at 4:43 and 5:34
Jalopnik is my only escape from work. Thank you for making a visual aid to my sanity.
Jjfbkhnbbjhhbvkvnjx
it's like the dakar rally, somehow, but a lot more smaller. Love it.
GREAT Feature About "THE HAPPIEST RACE ON EARTH" The General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000 !!!!!

One day I will do this
NO.
OK, good to have goals. You get the buggy. I will be your Driver / Chef / Mechanic.
By the look of it, just buy an old cat ye rwd silverado and put a long travel kit upfront. In the rear, build the axle track bars and have a roll cage. Youre ready to go then. Might need to swap trans say to a turbo 400 and youre good for this race.

Great way to celebrate finishing a race , take a shot of tequila and continue driving (sarcastic applause)
Definitely bucket list #1 - #5000
Very cool video,loved it,thanks.
I wish i could be rich like the guy that just had gotten into racing willing to buy anything.. except i have the knowledge and skills just kinda lacking the money baha. i wanna do the baja 1000 one day which would be sweeet! or rally!
Baja 1000 you can get into for pretty cheap. The baja bugs can be built cheap.
+ThatSubieDude let me know if you ever need a photographer:)
+Oducks58 whats cheap?
+Mike SOMDOW The 5/1600 class is a standard VW Bug, stock engine, stock shell, cant recall if the shocks can be up to 2inches of travel longer than a stock one, you can modify a bit the tranny, rollcage, race fuel cell, no windshield
+luis romero I looked it up a wee bit, doesnt seem that expensive.
Powerful Dave Hough cameo!
I have heard of this, so take that!
Cool vid. One thing though - why'd you bleep out the last part?
I mean, the website isn't exactly Rated G...?
avmerhar84 Good question! We were playing around with it and it's actually funnier bleeped because it draws attention to it.
The end was the best part lol

Off road racing. Real racing. Not that the others aren't great. But they DO NOT compare.
Cool vid!
Would love to do this.
someday i might end up living this ultramodern urban lifestyle and go to some desert city in Mexico and live like a real cowboy
real test of man and machine
The insane Baja race that only: documentary film fans, sports fans, car guys, offroad guys, travis pastrana fans, outdoorsmen, Mexicans and Californians have heard of

The Baja 1000 is fucking insane
Watch the movie Dust To Glory if you haven't already. It'll get you hooked like that guy. It's on Netflix, should the pirates' life not be your style. Could probably find it for free and legitimately elsewhere, but I'm not sure.
That race finish in San José del cabo.

How to end up with a small fortune in racing?
Start with a Large fortune!
Reminds me iof the mint 600 with the general tire truck.
