@@Monhamd1000 emulation isn't really the issue, the issue here is how it interacts with the cart (the 2600+ and 7800+ are cart dumpers). So unless the 2600+ and 7800+ emulates all the hardware on the cart it's not going to happen.
You can play it with no sound using the current update on Atari Age or the ofifical update that will be available soon. I suppose the true reason it's 'not possible' is due to money.
I have yet to play R&V, but seeing the game play, I am mesmerized by the quality of graphics and sound. This is the highest level of quality graphics and animation found on the 7800. I applaud the developer. He is extremely talented.
I definitely can understand the whole hype and buzz about this game. But for me watching the Pro Gamer playing this one, is going to have to do it for me.
I hope there will be a reissue of the physical release. I can play the game off my 7800GD as I bought the Steam version but I'd rather play it off the original cart and support the author once more. I have only finished the game once in the coop mode with a friend. Never played the single player mode for more than a couple levels.
@@saurondp rumor says that it's unlikely. There's a few reasons why and both Atari and the dev are aware of the issues but it seems that they don't have any interest in proceeding with making it compatible.
@@Retrosys I agree it's the best game on the console. As for another game... Well unfortunately it's not financially viable. I talked to the dev about it and he put his life on hold to do Rikki and Vikki. He didn't make hardly anything off it and it seemed like no body cared until they couldn't get it for a decent price anymore. Sad really. But at least we got this one
@@TheAtariNetwork : I don't believe his work went unappreciated. They only made around 600 carts and they all sold out. I bought it for $59.95 but i'da gladly paid twice that much for it. It's truly a remarkable game.

@@TheAtariNetwork : I'll check this out. I could've swore it was around 600. They even said they found a glitch that softlocked the game and they had to retest all the carts before they distributed the game which killed a 7800 they were using as a test bed.

This game is unfortunately not 2600 plus compatible and it doesn't seem like it ever will be. But who knows maybe it'll happen one day...
The Atari 2600 Plus could've been better if it used a 7800 on a chip instead of emulation.

Seeing this game gives me hope that something like Sam's Journey could be brought to the 7800.
Still have not played this. I truly hope Atari can get this re-released on cart or at least on the VCS

Rikki & Vikki is an amazing game, and tons of fun despite how hard it gets. I really hope they can get this game working on the 2600+.

@@TeeroyHammermill 600 carts is a lot for a homebrew 7800 game, I think most homebrews usually sell around 200 or so.

Would be great it the creators of this game sold a workable "stand alone rom"
You can extract the rom from the Steam version. There's a conversion tool for that.
