I think all depends on the specifications that you are looking for. The live online classes from Becker fits well to students that are out of school, that’s my case I feel the classes give more confidence in the process. On the other hand the price it’s also an important factor to consider.
This is a toss up for me, but I am leaning towards the Becker Test Prep. Yes, cost is an issue and I don't want to spend more than I have to, but I think that the way they structure their videos as almost a 1v1 session by referencing directly to the text pages is good for me. It would be nice if Becker had the extensive pre-knowledge test like Surgent. No one wants to listen to the same content over and over - especially if you are doing it every day already. Thank you for the video. It was very helpful.
I passed the EA exam with Surgent a couple years ago and loved their software. However, this video helped me realize how well of a prep service Becker can be. Hopefully I can catch a discount on Becker in the coming weeks. Thank you!
hey i am trying to pass cpa exam and have an opportunity for Surgent CPA review ultimate for $1299. Is this deal great or do they always give a big discount package. thanks
Thanks for watching! Glad we could help Jordan. It looks like for the next couple weeks (July 2022) Becker has $1,100 off their Pro course with code CPAPROPLUS and $700 off their Premium course with code PREM700. testprepinsight.com/go/becker-cpa-review/ Good luck!
Very tough choice. I think I would lean towards Becker due to their simulated exams and live courses but Surgent's adaptive software is extremely interesting.
I would lean towards Becker as it's the most well rounded of the two Prep courses. Yes, it costs more but in the long run I'd rather go with the course that has a more proven success rate and thorough material.
I will choose Becker cuz of the pre-noted e- books and the simulation exams with new material to help u understand how much u have learned. But can’t afford due to the price.
Thanks for the Becker vs. Surgent CPA prep course comparison. Very detailed and helpful. Becker sounds best for me - I like the live classes. Is that a Famous San Diego Chicken bobblehead on the shelf behind you? Thanks again.
I've tried Becker but the materialis very meaty. I'm a busy mom that works FT and a review course like Surgent CPA seems like it would be a good fit for me.
I prefer Becker because I feel that I would rather be over prepared than save time. Their simulations seem to be a good way to mimic the exam or be harder than the exam. It's a hard decision as a current college student, but I think I should take the time to be over prepared and not have to take parts of the exam again
I know this is not the focus of the video, but you are Avery handsome man. 😅 I graduated with my undergrad degree in Accounting in May 2022, and I will complete my Masters in Finance in May 2023, which is when I will become CPA eligible. My full time job starts in June 2023, so I will be studying for CPA as soon as I start working. I am a bit nervous so I am just looking around and researching ahead of time regarding CPA examination.
@@TestPrepInsight I made the switch yesterday after watching this review and trying out the free trial. I realized I didn't get anything out of Surgent's video lectures. Becker's are so much better.
I have Surgent and honestly I'm not feeling it. The books are very detailed but very confusing. Surgent is all about the repetitiveness of test taking so if that's for you it's a great option. I started a 14 day trial with Becker and I'm already loving it more, so I'm trying to save my money to purchase Becker and I might as well use both once I purchase it. Right off the back I can say that Becker's videos are better than Surgent's because Surgent's videos are just plain boring and although Surgent is not made to watch videos it's lacking in that department when you need it the most for just learning overall. Becker's actually follows their books and guides you with videos through each page, each question and each simulation along with video walk throughs. Surgent doesn't have that which is fine but its just lacking in the learning department for me like for example, what's a better way to do an accounting problem? or where do I follow along in the book? etc. Surgent only gives a written explanation when you get a problem wrong. This is not to say Surgent is bad I'm just saying from my experience, I feel I need to supplement it with something else. I'm really trying to love Surgent because I feel they truly have a nice platform but it's just missing some things here and there such as the human element that I feel Becker provides. I think I'll use Becker for the learning aspect and human element and Surgent for the testing aspect and their AI element. Heck I guess I can't go wrong having both the AI adapt and the Adapt2U. It will be pretty bad having these two platforms and still fail the CPA exam I'll update this post in a year and let you know how it goes lol.
Thanks for sharing! A lot of the problems it sounds like that you have with Surgent are the same ones we hear time and time again. Glad to hear you're liking Becker so far. Please check back in after your first exam and let us know how it goes. Always curious to hear people's thoughts. Thanks!
Question for anyone really, I’m trying to jump start my CPA prep and exam, have been out of school for almost 8 years now and have been in Healthcare Accounting my whole life, what’s the best strategy to get things going? I haven’t signed up for a test or a prep course just yet but like to get the CPA done by the end of the year
Hey Arun, our belief is that CPA prep is all about consistency. You just have to make it a part of your daily (or near daily) routine. Trying to cram in short spurts or find "hacks" just doesn't work for passing the CPA. Our advice would be to sign up for a CPA prep course, follow their suggested study schedule (personalized to your skills and availability), and stick with it. Whatever CPA prep company you go with, just make sure you stick to their schedule. Consistency is really key. It's a process building up to the exam.
@@TestPrepInsight how much time do you think is ideal for prep, 1 month per class or you think I need more time since I work close 50 hours a week. Also the Becker discount code doesn’t work, if you can provide another link.
@Arun haha, sorry Arun we just announced our July winner. In any event, if you're working 50+ hours per week, I'd plan on taking a little longer than a month per section. Obviously some sections are easier than others and take less time to study for (ex. BEC is easier than FAR), but on average, I'd plan on closer to 2 months of studying given your work load (maybe 6-8 weeks). That assumes you can only commit a few hours per week to studying - could be less if you can sneak in more study hours on nights and weekends. Also, weird the link isn't working. That Becker course should currently be $1,000 off. Try getting there through the link on our website: testprepinsight.com/reviews/becker-cpa-review/
I just reviewed Surgent Capital lease and let me tell you the lady just read off the pdf. lol How about teach, explain or don't just read from slides. I don't recomend.

I would prefer Surgent over Becker simply for their Adaptive Tech, which seems to cut time and focus on your weaknesses.
Thanks for watching Manny!
I'm leaning towards Beckers due to the live courses. Live courses help me absorb the information faster.
I like that you break down all the details to help people make informed choices. Your general tips are also helpful.
I think all depends on the specifications that you are looking for. The live online classes from Becker fits well to students that are out of school, that’s my case I feel the classes give more confidence in the process. On the other hand the price it’s also an important factor to consider.
Great points Alexandra! Thanks for watching!
Great comparison! Close call between Surgent and Becker.
This is a really good comparison of Surgent vs Becker for CPA review courses. Thanks for always providing such great information with your videos.
I think I want to go with Surgent because of its accelerated pace and algorithms!
Thank you, this clears my mind on what to buy!
Thanks for another great CPA review. Looks like both Surgent and Becker have good attributes.
This is very helpful when trying to decide between the Surgent and Becker CPA review course. Thank you
Great comparison! Would probably go for Surgent!
I think I will go with Surgent; I work full time and would like to get this done as soon as possible.
Good luck!!
great video. this is really helpful on making a decision. pretty sure i'm going to use Becker after seeing this
Prefer Becker, because as you said, it's the best in the class, so far.

Good comparison, thanks for making this!
I would choose Becker. Their live classes sound great. Thanks for the comparison.

Surgent sounds like a great option if you have a tighter deadline.

Pat, Surgent almost always has some kind of deal going, thought that's slightly bigger than what we normally see.
Great review, thank you
Thank you for testing and reviewing these course. I think I will go with becker. Great video.
Thank you for the kind words Jenny! We appreciate your support!
good review. well done. surgent vs. becker helpful breakdown
Thanks for the info!
This video made me realize Becker should be my choice.
Thank you for the comparison!
Glad we could help!
Very tough choice. I think I would lean towards Becker due to their simulated exams and live courses but Surgent's adaptive software is extremely interesting.
It is a tough call for sure. Thanks for watching Shane!

Good call Sandy 😀
Very helpful video. Thanks for the time to do a great review!
Really torn between the two but plan to get one of the two at the top of the year
Thanks for watching! Let us know if you need any help deciding!
I will choose Becker cuz of the pre-noted e- books and the simulation exams with new material to help u understand how much u have learned. But can’t afford due to the price.
I would choose Becker over the other one because I like the option of having a live class
As always amazing review!
Thanks for the video! Super helpful reviews!
Thanks for watching! Glad you found the video helpful!
I prefer Taxation section. It’s the section I thrive in and more straightforward. Also can basically be a preparer before you know it.
Good call! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the Becker vs. Surgent CPA prep course comparison. Very detailed and helpful. Becker sounds best for me - I like the live classes. Is that a Famous San Diego Chicken bobblehead on the shelf behind you? Thanks again.
I am preparing the FAR.
I would prefer Becker!!

Thank you for the excellent comparison! I think I would go Becker. They are pricey but sounds like a better overall course :-)
Thanks Anna!
For me personally, I think Becker would work best with my studying style!
Good choice! Thanks for watching :)
Becker would be the better choice for me
Nice...Thanks for sharing Angie!

Well thank you 🤭
I have Surgent now but after failing a section multiple times and becoming very frustrated by the results I would like to switch to Becker.
Probably a good call. Sounds like you've hit a wall with Surgent. Might need a new approach.

I don't take spending $3k on a prep course lightly. Thank you for helping me decide.
No problem, Danielle! These courses are crazy expensive, so glad we could help :-)
I think I will go with Surgent because of their price is a bit reasonable than Becker.
For sure, good call. Thanks for watching!
Becker sounds like a winner to me.
Thanks for watching Arun!
I don't know which CPA course I prefer, which is why I came to this video. Lol.
I prefer Surgent, the idea of focused studying using AI sounds interesting.
