    A Tip. The long candle wicks that you cut off can also be used for future candles. Attach one end of the half wick to a metal paper clip. Just slide the end between the inner and outer curve of the paper clip. Voila, you have base for the wick. Use just as you did the new ones clamped in a metal base!!!

    This was great!
    You were informative and I honestly love that you don’t edit out the small blips like how the first hot cocoa wasn’t the right color or when you started whisking your wax too early. I’ve never done anything like this so it’s just as helpful knowing what to avoid and look out for instead of having textbook perfect tutorials where everything turns out flawless on the first go.
    Plus, you’re like a REAL PERSON and not just a manufactured content farm.

    For the "syrup" on the ice cream, maybe freeze the candle first, so when the hot wax hits the frozen wax, it freezes in place, like a drip cake. Or possibly let the hot wax set up just a bit so it's thicker.

    Bethany, your candles look so great!
    Back when I used to make a lot of candles and soaps, I had all dedicated pots, bowls, cups, and mixers. I stored them all in two separate lidded, plastic totes. Not everyone does that, I learned by experience. One holiday season, I attended a Christmas open house and there were some goodies that tasted super perfume-y. A lot of us were kind of baffled and just politely avoided those goodies. It was later rumored that our crafty hostess had used some of her kitchen equipment to make her candles and had later used some of that same equipment to make the treats. I believe the connection was made when the Christmas candle gifts from her later smelled the same way those cookies tasted. 😂😂😂 Y’all don’t poison your family or guests! 😬😎

    A pro tip.. please make sure you are using the right size wick. You can’t use one wick for a candle vessels. You can drown your wax and it won’t melt or you can heat up your vessel way too much and can potential burst your vessel.And some vessels need more than one wick depending on the size of the vessel you are using. For example, the glass mugs from dollar tree requires two wicks to burn evenly.

    • @TheUnderCoverMother2020
      @TheUnderCoverMother2020 Год назад +9

      Yep.. lots of test burns! Wick will make or break your candle. I've had to double wick anything at 3 inches across. Otherwise melt pool doesn't reach the edges... I use Hemp wicks.

    For a darker brown wax, use black and brown alcohol inks. Drip the colors in and stir the melted wax until you get what you think it will be close to when hardened. The alcohol will burn off in the hot wax and shouldn't affect the aroma of your finished candle. Good luck, fellow crafters!😄

    I make faux food candles all the time! Issue is I do all that work and then I feel bad lighting it cause it looks so pretty, but then if I don’t use it, the candle goes bad so what was the point of all that work I just did? At least like faux mug toppers, faux food decor, and even cake-like-costumes, like I’ve made some faux cake purses and earrings for a customized commission which people take to tea parties, but those things you can use and not actually destroy the item while using it. Like a faux whip cream mug topper doesn’t break when you put it on top of your mug, unless your actively trying to break it like throwing it at a wall or something, but the whole point of a candle is to light it, candle melts down, especially free burn candles (which would be the cupcakes that are featured on the end cause there’s no glass or container that’ll hold the wax once you light it- the wax would just melt onto the table or whatever surface it’s on), and now your art has literally been set on fire and turned into a puddle.
    The internal dilemma is real LMAO 😅😩😂

  • @lilyashagirl

    Hey Bethany....
    These are Great but for those using the wicks from the DT tall candles the cup candles require an extra wick. Using the wick from the tall candle is fine but it's Only made to melt the small circumference of that jar. ... Which is about an Inch or so. Once you put it say in the coffee mug, it's now a much wider size ( about 3, 1/2") so you'll need to Add another wick about an inch apart from each other, Centered. If you want to make 1 in a bowl you'll need at least 3... Those you'll want to center in a Triangle form 1 top center ( not close to the outer wall) then 1 under off to the right, the 3rd off to the left just like a Triangle centered and an inch Apart. You'll find your candles will burn much more evenly and without tunneling. Remember Each wick is only made to burn a specific size circle. Lastly be careful how much icing & Embeds you Add .... Especially if you now have the correct amount of wicks (2/3) your candles can overflow out of your mug just watch the level of your main wax. Hope you find this Helpful!!!! Your candles are Amazing..... Youre already ahead of the game making candles & the whipped wax. I love Nikki too.. I learned how to make my whipped from her. Happy Candle Creating...😍💯👏

    I have been seeing this trend a lot recently and I really want to make my mother-in-law some wax melts for either Christmas or her birthday. She is absolutely obsessed with wax melts, like me, but I don't use store bought melts anymore. I order from a family owned business from the state that I live in. I'm definitely going to buy some unscented candles from DT and some silicone molds! I have essential, and fragrance oils, because I send handmade scented cuticle oils/hand sanitizers with my custom press ons, so I'll be able to make her some custom scented melts. Thank you for this!

    @DM-je2ss 2 года назад +1

    you did a great job in making the candles. you do not need to take a class just watch a bunch of RUclips videos. I used to make to sell and one thing I can tell you. Never leave your candle directly on the countertop to cool. you need to raise up a bit. I used place my candle on empty cat food can do it sit up higher and not touch the countertop. two reason the first one is the hot candle wax can cause problems for your countertop and the second reason so that when the candle start to cool the top does not sink in.
    It can be a expensive hobby but you can get block of wax or soy wax and it would be cheaper in the long run. one big block of wax can make a lot of candle. also please be careful and only use scent that is made to be for candle. Also you should look up on how to do a Ice candle. it very easy to make and it cool. it using a paper milk carton and Ice, wax.

    Very cute! But I would think that getting a hand whipper/mixer (like a Braun), heat gun, a glass measuring bowl, a bunch of icing tips and bags, wicks, a bunch of molds, glasses or bowls for each one, and of course the dollar tree candles, pizza pans, wax or parchment paper (as well as sprinkles or anything else I'm forgetting) that the cost of making these will add up really fast!
    I think even more so because once you use these for wax, you really shouldn't use them for any cooking or making.
    But either way, yes these are cute. Just costly.

    • @mrsmorgann0000

      It doesn't have to be costly. The cost for the items shown to make these candles, including the blender and heat gun, if not already owned, would be near or under $60 and the items are re-useable to make more candles. However to purchase from a retailer these specialty candles, it would cost just as much for one candle, i.e. $60; if fortunate; two candles. In comparison it seems more frugal and special, and a lot more fun to go this route, not necessarily costly. But anyone who is a crafter knows that crafting can run the risk of becoming an expensive hobby.

      and honestly people should have some of these items... like glass measuring cup... u don't have to buy wicks if u buy the large candles at DT... just reuse them. and you do not have to be sooo elaborate on making your candles too. it's a personal preference...also just wait to buy the molds from DT too. Just think outside the box... these are jist for inspiration

    Soooo cute!! I love the hot coco ones too! Do you have to be nervous that the glass might shatter due to it getting so hot? I have little ones and would be nervous.

    Shout out to Kelly because that is the best way I've used, and only way now, to melt the candles! Her cereal candle has been my favorite since I first saw it and was gonna mention it, but of course you showed it😉You did a great job and agree on faves, if...you include the ice cream too🤣Tyfs❤🙏🏾

    Please, beware of Dollar tree candles, I watched Kelli, and Sara Jane "chic on the cheap" , and have done these candle hacks, last year I had 3 candles brake on me and Im very careful working with wax, I followed their instructions to the T. I tossed it out and have chooses not to risk hurting myself for these cheap candles.

      You mean the glass broke? While you were burning it or do you just mean they're cheap?

    • @AC-qi9wo
      @AC-qi9wo 2 года назад

      @@hinu1987 The glass broke, while I was heating them up and they cracked, thankfully they weren't fully melted, maybe I got a bad batch of glass, I just wanted to pass it on.

    If the color is not exactly right the easiest hack that my mom taught me before she passed away for coloring candles the correct or desired color is you just use whatever color you're aiming for of a piece of crayon or the whole crayon and you melt it in with the wax just as you would the wax normally and mix it together it turns into the color that you are more aiming for when you mix them together because of the high amount of pigmented color in the crayons and I'm sure you can probably find a cheap box of crayons at the dollar store I'm guessing or at Walmart or some other store you could probably find a cheap box of crayons you can also do that with plain white or whatever light colored wax you can take it from white to whatever color you want to turn it to with a crayon this also works well for blending a couple different crayon colors and making it all your own color which adds a unique original touch to it and you can come up with some beautiful colors that were not available prior until you made them yourself I've also been able to mix crayons into white wax in two separate containers and then kind of did this marbling effect when I mix them together made them kind of blend a little bit with each other but not fully so it had this kind of marble design to it like when you do water marbling on your fake nails it had the same type of effect and blending just that little bit to make it a unique beautiful design I hope this helps for anybody who reads this comment and is the candle making enthusiast or a seasoned professional candle maker

    The whipped wax reminds me of how I make my lotion with different things like shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax. I whip it all in my kitchen aide after it cools, in the fridge,and starts looking solid. Never thought of the molds for my lotions. That might be fun.

    The wax isn't drying, it's cooling. 😉 If you need a heat gun, grab a Michael or Joanne's 50% off coupon and you can get them for eight or nine dollars.
    If you need to color your wax you can always do the crayon- people will tell you not to you but I'm 60 years old and I've been doing it for as long as I can remember and I have never had a problem, lol. I used to melt just the crayons with absolutely no candle wax, put a wick in them and call them a candle. They worked perfectly... I just buy the white Dollar tree pillars and add some chunks of whatever color crayon I need.

    These are so nice and would make great gifts! I am Canadian we don’t have Hobby Lobby only Micheals, I am close to Washington State and have seen them but never shopped at one, I thought it was the same as Micheals. Which is the better store. Thank you for all the wonderful DIYs that even I can do, my husband tells me I am craft challenged. I start project but most times I screw it up.
