I recently started working in a hotel chain’s laundry room, and in my first weeks of training I noticed there were no standard procedures in place for me to follow regarding blood, feces, and other bodily fluids that come down the chute. I wasn’t instructed on what chemicals to use, cleaning procedures, hand washing stations, or ppe. Some items come bagged, but I saw a coworker rip open a biohazard bag with no gloves on! This prompted me to try to go learn more about the regulations employers must follow.

I used to work in a factory, and every hour a machine arm would literally rocket a car mirror across the floor for like a month, until someone almost got gob smacked and reported it to osha. We had a work meeting the next week about someone calling osha and the situation, and how they were technically within safety limits somehow and weren’t liable 😂 the problem’s stopped that day

I work as a machine press operator. They're supposed to provide arm covers in addition to gloves and they stopped giving them out shortly after I was hired. I've also never seen burn gel in the first aid box. I'm waiting until the summer comes to see if they'll turn on the air vents again, because they turned them off for the winter and the factory floor still gets hot enough to make me dizzy. Especially because I have to wear a long sleeve shirt on the floor because they stopped giving out the sleeves.

So glad I've found your user friendly information.
Was looking into reporting the improper foundation (sand) for running a 200 Ton boat ⛵️ lift ⬆️ (hoists 100ft+ vessels out of water unto land). This machine is improperly maintained, has fluids leak, & has shut down multiple times during the launching & hauling of vessels. We had a recent near miss that could have easily damaged a vessel & crushed a person or limb in the process of assembling an emergency boat cradle with wood blocks before the keel dug sank into the sand. Men under a 200 ton crane sinking into the sand with a vessel dangling in the slings.
I hate to stir trouble... but no one should have to get under a boat sinking on land when they go to work.
Glad to get educated on how to properly understand the legal aspects & the best way to escalate the issue; I had not considered trying to resolve the issue in-house before going to OSHA (big company, little peon worker).
Might have saved my job! Probably some limbs too.

I work in a warehouse, and our water was cut off before I came in today. No one made a notice about it, and management hasn't announced other arrangements for access to water or restroom facilities. A supervisor spoke with management about it being off, and he said they didn't seem to care. Management told another employee to use the bathroom, and to shovel out the toilet. Joke or not, I feel management should be taking this more seriously. I've been debating on just going home, since they don't seem to care about restroom facilities, sanitary needs like washing hands, or access to water for hydration. Going into the summer, in Alabama, it's hot and people need water to replenish what we sweat out.

I actually haven't experienced any issues aside from my own incompetence. I left a pallet jack out on the floor while I grabbed my water and my coworker basically was like "hey man, don't do that. They'll nail you for leaving it out where someone can fall" so here I am, seeing as how my company doesn't train us to know any of that stuff.

I work at an airport(but not actually at the terminal area) we work outside and when there is lightning and Thunder, we are still allowed to work outside. I’ve sent the osha screenshots about lightning safety to the managers and they allow us to sit inside when there is lightning but they will ask us to go back out and start working if the rain slows down and there is still thunder and lightning and they don’t really care about the osha site saying “stay inside until 30 min after you have heard the last sound of Thunder”.

Recently my call center installed sound masking in an open floor so you can't make out what anyone is saying more than 10ft away. You can't make out individual sound or location. I first noticed this after work I did hear an ambulance behind me until I saw it visually. At the end of my shift it take me a few hours to get my ears back to normal. It's hard to explain.

I work facility maintenance which covers a broad spectrum of work and tasks. Many times I find myself in tight crawl spaces and attics where the only occupants are spiders, rats and other vermin. My concern is the rat, bird and mouse droppings. I wear an N95 mask when I go into these environments. But an N95 mask only filters 95% of those bacteria which leaves you vulnerable to many fecal viruses. Even after exiting such places, the bacteria can still be on your person, in your hair or on you close. I have gotten respitory infection 2 times in the past 6 months and finally came down with COVID after a weakened ammune system in November last years. any advice or suggestions ?

While the employees in question are not technically violating the law, employees are reporting they have to walk through the smoke and it's making them ill. There is a dedicated smoking area, and the smokers are refusing to use it. One of the smokers is a manager. :( Do the impacted employees have a case if the smoking individuals are technically inside of the law?

I work for a beverage catering company that has these metal bars that are at least 8 feet tall with roofs. I was told at the end of my shift we had to basically put these huge grill covers over the bars… ( all 4 of them.) from climbing up on the bar with no real ladder. To sticking my head between the bar roofs to pull cover over the bars. If I slipped my head barely fit through the hole. I would’ve basically been hung by my head. Workplace safety is no joke for the people on the ground. But the people in the office never have to do these things…. They think we are being lazy… they couldn’t splurge couple more thousand dollars for a retractible cover for the bar like they do at stadiums… or food trucks. Greed gets to them and they cut corners to save money.

This presenter is correct. Some states have what are called "State Plans"; specific, and in addition to the regulations and protections promulgated by federal OSHA. Other states do not have state plans, and abide only by federal OSHA. State Plans must be equal to, or above the protections promulgated by federal OSHA.
This legislation is driven by money, and the insurance industry. Employers who do not at least follow federal standards for workplace safety can be fined, and held "criminally" liable in court. Yes, that means jail time.

I was remodeling a Walmart… Long story short, they hired this new guy. He worked with us for a week maybe, then he got fired because of his criminal background! Me and most of the work crew was building the self check out Scanners right by the entrance of the store. But over night they always have someone watching the door sitting down by the entrance. To prevent any situations that could happen. you would think they would put a strong man To make sure nothing like this happens or at least somebody who can handle them self in A situation like this to prevent them from entering. But they had this little 120 pound cute ish girl in her 20s. Wild right . But one random night. Like about a week or so after he got fired
Supposedly he committed like a murder or attempted murder!!! Something like that. Basically he did something very violent then came to where he got fired at . when he knew we was working there. He came through Yellen running through the doors through the store almost bumped into me I had a side step out the way and a cop came in and shot a taser at him and missed the first one and a taser almost hit me. at this point everybody stop doing what they were doing and all the higher up bosses were telling us to get to work get to work while that was occurring in the facility. I started recording from a safe distance as he was already compromised. But the whole time they was telling us to get back to work. While this crazy man who just got fired from our team was screaming and cussing at us and yelling from getting tased. Then the new lady who just became an SPC was telling me it was unsafe for me to be recording at that moment. At that point he was already compromised but I feel like it would’ve been safer to record the whole situation instead of get to work. So it’s dangerous for me to record. In the store because something bad is happening but it isn’t dangerous for us to get back to work ? Wild right wish I could have told my boss about it that night I’ve never old him about it

So what is you work in a big box club, a tractor trailer, reefer, arrives with the delivery, and the last store they delivered to bring the trailers door? Then, they deliver to the next store, and upon the receiver discovering the door will not stay up, the general manager is consulted. Over the radio she says we can jam a roll of shrink wrap in between the latch on the door, or have an associate hold the door up as the forklift goes in and out. OR, of we are uncomfortable with that, were can paper jack the pallets out OF the roll of shrink wrap holds the door open.
Isn't that a huge safety hazard?
This just happened a little while ago 3/28/23.
    I went to lunch.
What if that shrink wrap roll doesn't hold the door open? This is a full sized refrigerated trailer hauled by a full sized diesel truck, not a little delivery truck.
That seems to me, a dangerous practice to expect your employees to try and do.

I work as a Safety manager for industrial construction companies.
I have seen a lot of employees done dirty by their employers that use safety to target and terminate employees that management wants to get rid of. Then when someone gets hurt or worse the companies play dirty and throw their integrity out the window to protect their safety record and avoid paying more insurance. I worked for one company that had an employee die in an accident at work and got his death ruled a self inflicted life ending event.
A lot of these Safety reps on these construction projects need more training and more over site.
I have been looking into if they are operating “Under the color of the law”, because they are tasked by the company to enforce Federal safety rules and regulations per OSHA and other governing bodies such as the EPA and NRC.
A lot of these so called safety professionals power trip and abuse their authority.

I filed an OSHA complaint 11/12/2021 for Covid violations/no safety standards. Was terminated on 11/15/2021. Filed OSHA whistleblower complaint 11/16/2021. We are now at the settlement phase and I am NOT happy with the settlement amount and the conditions attached. This occurred in Wisconsin. My two OSHA investigators seem to have turned sour towards me. They once seemed helpful and said they were going to negotiate on my behalf because after a very lengthy investigation they found merit in my case and said it was a strong case. Told me to gather up all of my receipts and expenses I’ve incurred along with lost wages. Then a few months later they seemed to shift and weren’t inclined to negotiate for my expenses and losses incurred due to being fired. Something seems off to me. Any attorney out there want to help me? I haven’t signed the settlement proposal yet.

How can employers have a duty to provide ergonomic chairs, etc. but not protect from COVID??!

@@anonanonymous1970 They do have an obligation to try to stop the spread of covid. Cal-OSHA fined hundreds of companies for Covid violations. See here - www.dir.ca.gov/DOSH/covid19citations.asp

@@braniganrobertsonlaw Thanks. These are really minor fines. Have there been lawsuits against employers, based on Cal-OSHA, for requiring employees to be in-person or not requiring masks at work?

Why wouldn't a sexually harassing supervisor create an unsafe work environment under Cal-OSHA??

    • @braniganrobertsonlaw
      @braniganrobertsonlaw  Год назад

I agree. It is unsafe. My point in the video was that OSHA and Cal-OSHA don't directly regulate harassment. There are other laws that do that. See my harassment videos if you want to know more about that.

@@braniganrobertsonlaw Is there an express carve out in Cal-OSHA? Has anyone tried to root a sexual harassment claim in Cal-OSHA (the complaint would of course also include the statutes you cover in other videos). Thanks.

A contracting company was hired by my employer. Said contractors breached a natural gas line inside our building. No evacuation was executed. Communication from employer's representatives used subjective language such as "minor" without actual measurements to describe the event. Our work team felt the affects of the natural gas leak. Other team mates noted health differences and went home. The employer has addressed that they are not up to date. After 1 week, we still don't have an updated evacuation or response plan to emergencies.
