Gambir is the kind of guy I think most people misunderstands
He is soft inside but tough from outside and people are afraid of such individuals.

Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli represent such a stark irony of Delhi. While former, though short tempered, is an epitome of gentleman demeanor and class, tha latter, though world class batsman, behaves like roadside bully.
And don't forget, T20 WC as well as WC 2011 would have been a distant dream had Gautam not initiated attack from frontline and played innings of lifetime. Besides, he had an incredible career overall and was terrific Southpaw India ever produced. A victim of politics indeed.

Players are not supposed to change the society.Players are meant to celebrate the society.Latter is more important.

Farjii Baba ! Don't you think that AR Rahman or Gavaskar has done more for the betterment of society than most of army generals or IAS officers.They give a value to our existence.Giving smiles and sharing joy is the best way for betterment.
going by that logic, kapil sharma and other comedians, should be awarded the India's highest civilian award cause they add "value to our existence" by making us laugh!
Also, it is quite foolish to say that IAS officers or Army generals don't do anything for us because they don't entertain us. everyone has got their responsibility towards society( that includes you and me as well), I strongly feel even if the guy is an actor or a sportsperson , if he is capable enough then he should contribute towards society(any philanthropic work). in this case Gambhir feels it is his responsibility to help those families, I don't see anything wrong in it.

Ayush, this might be true of the officers. Possibly, not the case with the jawans, where people take up the Army option because it offers employment, and not because they love the job!

Ajit, absolutely, but they are doing for us in the same way as Traffic Cops do, Emergency Services personnel (fire, ambulance, paramedics, disaster response) do, Pilots do, Engine drivers do. See, not every army recruit goes to the front, some are cooks, some personal bearers to officers, and some plain guards. Just to put on record, I did clear the NDA SSB (in 1990) but could not join due to an accident I suffered. In the final interview, I was told by the panel of interviewers that they were looking for people with average intellect as the really "intelligent" ones would not follow orders blindly. Whether that question was to test me (I had scored 91% in both 10th and 12th in CICSE Board) or a fact, I still do not know!
