This show is amazing. It's a freaking year old and I can't get tired of it. Everything about it I absolutely love. That guy who completely toppled over at 3:10 got up like it was nothing. I could not do that!!!
guys. this is just a regular high school. i was there and saw there show in person as well as spoke to members of this band. they are amazing, they have lots of fundraising coming from support of almost everyone in florida. love watching this show in person
I competed with them at the BOA competition in Atlanta and let me just say that they deserved to win. This video doesn't do this band justice at all. Seeing it live was literally the coolest thing ever.
That was my favorite performance. I remember my whole band stood and cheered when tarpon springs was announced in first place. The kids in that band are really lucky to have such a large group and a large budget. At my high school were struggling to get enough support to even play at football games. Our budget is a few thousand dollars.
Anonymousconcept The problem is, no matter how many carwashes, cookie sales, etc. we do, we have very few in our band program to begin with, and where I live, football is everything. Nobody even knows what marching band is.
Tarpon Springs is not good because of how much money they have. They are good because how they practice. Like their band director said, they rehearse how they wish to perform. Tarpon springs practices every single day from the time school gets out until 10 Pm at night, at they put their all into every run through of their show. That's why they are good. It's not all about they money, that is just secondary.
At first I thought it was all about the props too but if you watch closely everything is almost perfect. They definitely deserved 1st Place last year! See you at Super Regionals in Atlanta this weekend!
And I'm sure it's pretty creepy for high schoolers and 22 year olds to be in the same school. (also - cavaliers machine? anyone? An innovative show? Kinda. 10 years ago.
Curious Chunk As simple as I wrote it. I travel to a ton of different places and learn about a lot of different bands in Florida along with the review of the students of all these schools and from what I've seen and what they've said, the school with "More things" aka money often get the most support and the best techs while the mediocre bands are left to the side. Not speaking in a hating term, I'm proud of Tarpon for I have friends in that band but its just a painful reality that I've come to see coming from what others would call, a mediocre school band. I was at FMEA this weekend for All-State and it was amazing to see, hear and learn where all these talented musicians come from and their high school stories.
Not to mention people in the band. My band is full of skilled people and we get custom written by the same guy who writes for the bluecoats and other outstanding groups but we didn't even make it to semi finals because we have about 120 people and a budget of around 5,000$. We had to build our own props and fundraise like there was no tomorrow.
Anonymousconcept Obviously you need hard work but that only gets you so far in these days of marching band. You need certain props and equipment to excel even farther than the hardest work you've put in to be put on the top. That is modern Marching Band Competition these days.
All the money in this program comes from fundraising and band fees. We are not supported by the county, the students and band parents do all the hard work for this.
Can someone tell me what the fucl is in the water on Tarpon springs, broken arrow, Avon etc? How the fuck are they so good? like damn! I wish Texas would get rid of that 8 hour rule so we could practice and be better
mondern shadic Das still a lot. Here in my school we only practice an hour and thirty minutes 5 days a week(counting sectionals which are about the same length as rehearsals) and nothing on weekends, excluding competitions and such. No wonder why you guys are so good
+Mermaid Motel (I'm from Broken Arrow) We usually start rehearsal in late July. Eight hours a day, six days a week until school starts. After school starts, it's usually three and a half (it varies on what day it is) every day except wednesday and sunday. Saturdays are sometimes eight hours, sometimes we have a competition.
+Mermaid Motel Coming from a tarpon alumni, we would practice about 4 hours after school, 2 during school on the feild, always in translation there would be some of us practicing, and 10am-9pm on saturdays
These aren't even marching bands anymore. More like theatrical productions and bands who don't have the funds for huge props but have the talent are screwed.
This show is amazing. It's a freaking year old and I can't get tired of it. Everything about it I absolutely love. That guy who completely toppled over at 3:10 got up like it was nothing. I could not do that!!!
Holy crap I've never noticed that

they’re sponsored by disney

This band is awesome I do not think any other band can beat this performance they deserve perfect score for this piece.
Wow! What artistic insight and exploratory desires to what will become the future of marching bands and its promulgation for its very existance.
Darn you UIL with your 8 hour rule!
1:30 ... that hit... just goosebumps and chills... Just absolutely amazing...
This is going to be my favorite opener forever

Servals The secret is in the fund raising.

tarpon pays at least one grand to just to join they have to pay alot of money to be in the band
One grand? At Least.
sgi.org
Was one of their source music Symphony in B flat?
Yes
Ugh this show is brilliant
I wish our band director would do a show like that

+That Guy Who Plays Cod bell And then there's texas bands who can only practice 8 hours a week who are competing on the same level
At first I thought it was all about the props too but if you watch closely everything is almost perfect. They definitely deserved 1st Place last year! See you at Super Regionals in Atlanta this weekend!
If they had money, wouldn't the be going to grand Nast every year?
what is the name of the last movement with all of the wood wind run?!!!! im in love with it and i want to know
They go to an arts school, their main studies are music and for the colorguard it's dance and colorguard.
Always liked Tarpon, but when you added a drum line......you became epic !!!!
Why isn't this school part of DCI yet?
They have woodwinds....
The fact they're a high school lol
And I'm sure it's pretty creepy for high schoolers and 22 year olds to be in the same school. (also - cavaliers machine? anyone? An innovative show? Kinda. 10 years ago.
jason nguyen They aren't quite at DCI level lol
Where is the I'm only human sample from? does anyone know
Two people sang it and they are in our band. They just recorded it
okay, thanx!
Welcome to American Marching bands where you get all the victories, dedication and support from all around as long as you have a crap ton of money.
Please elaborate.

orichic51 Don't bother taking hard work into account then, asshat.

All of the Bands of America directors are so formal my band director would be going nuts jumping at the side line
+Mpetillo5 ikr mine would be shouting lol
+Mpetillo5 Same with mine, my band director is SUCH a kid!
+Mpetillo5 if you watch 2013's performance, in the opener, you can hear the band director yell before a big hit haha
-tarpon alumni
+Mpetillo5 same! Mines a short 40 year old man that resembles a garden Gnome. He would go nuts!
Mpetillo5 I would give anything to watch my band director the two years we made grand nats finals
Chains and chin straps?? Interesting.... Also very impressive band!!
+Sean Bowers Chains for the visual effect, chin straps because the shakos tend to fly off during movement. :)
the chin straps are invisible lol and the chains can be seen for a more professional look
Thank goodness Tarpon Springs has the only Outdoor Performance Ensemble in the country.
Christopher Morris Smells like you don't enjoy silver too much.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
They were at one of our competitions last year and they got an over all score of 98.7. It was fucking crazy.
Which Competition was that
Here in Florida, I think it was Lions Pride competition. Can't wait to see this year's show!!!
Cool I saw them in Atlanta in 2014 for a super regional
All the money in this program comes from fundraising and band fees. We are not supported by the county, the students and band parents do all the hard work for this.
Personally, I don't like the music that much, but the show was incredible.
anybody else see the girl fall in the background in 3:09, that was a nice recovery
If bands dumped as much money as they did, there would be a lot of less mediocre HS marching bands.
Can someone tell me what the fucl is in the water on Tarpon springs, broken arrow, Avon etc? How the fuck are they so good? like damn! I wish Texas would get rid of that 8 hour rule so we could practice and be better
Actually here in tarpon we only practice about 4 hours on school days and then 12 hours (9am-9pm) on Saturdays.
mondern shadic Das still a lot. Here in my school we only practice an hour and thirty minutes 5 days a week(counting sectionals which are about the same length as rehearsals) and nothing on weekends, excluding competitions and such. No wonder why you guys are so good

who's the drum major ?
JFB Our drum major is Nicholas Haley! He's the best!
do you know the name of the last movement they play with all the woodwind runs?!! that is like my favorite and i NEED to know
Reigh Kazumira It's an original piece made by Frank Sullivan I don't know the name of it though
I don't want to be that guy, but... fall at 3:10
Excellent recovery, tho...
These aren't even marching bands anymore. More like theatrical productions and bands who don't have the funds for huge props but have the talent are screwed.
Rose Bugey Check out the Dobyns Bennett show for 2016. They have 0 props period and still made beautiful impacts
Holy crap this High School must be stinking rich.
They are when we competed against them they had their own semi truck full of props and stuff lol
They're sponsored by Disney land. That's how they afford every thing.
And there band fees are really expensive
No I think that's also in their sponsorship. I heard a rumor that is around 1M sponsorship. Though I think its more of 50k.
joe parisi a lot of bands have their own semi... Almost all bands I've seen have their own
