A friend of mine was on one of these shows, a televised singing contest. She wound up being the last person under 18 on the show, and the producers wanted an adult to win. The singers were supposed to choose a song to perform every week, and then be judged. To get her off the show, the producers specifically chose a song that didn't suit her voice or style, and then had her eliminated because the song didn't suit her.
Honestly, after watching some of the examples in the whole video, "the kids know what they'll be cooking in advance" feels like the least staged reality show example in the whole thing
And then there are the more recent cases of reality tv shows like love island or terrace house which have been seen to not have the best interests at heart for its contestants. 😔
It’s not that they know their cooking. That’s not what he said. He said they received prior knowledge of the ingredients being revealed. Giving those kids time to figure out, and even test recipes prior to the show. Shows like chopped, and master chef are about testing the chef’s skills with random ingredients.
This reminds me of the time my mom had to opportunity to call a celebrity “live” on one of those morning talk shows. Her original question was something super normal like “how to do you manage your work and home life” or something like that but when she spoke to the producer on the phone before the show they asked her to say a predetermined question that was something really inappropriate, but she went through with it because she wanted to be on tv and speak to an actor. The celebrity was sooo uncomfortable with the question, you could tell it was really embarrassing for her (you’d think she’d have a predetermined reply too right?) and my mom regrets agreeing to it to this day. In conclusion i hate television.
Same as all the fake af "questions" that Andy Cohen poses to the real housewives, either at the reunion shows or on the WWHL episodes. I've seen the faces some of the housewives make when he's reading the questions, weird almost eye rolling smirks/smiles, because they know. There is no "Jeanine from Wichita" who wants to know blah blah blah. It's Andy and/or the show's producers crafting really shady questions because they want to segueway into certain controversial plot point happenings.
I didn’t realize they put the people in the same clothes for those side interviews. I just figured they filmed those at the end, and asked the contestants “alright now pretend like you JUST burned the potatos and walk us through your thoughts.”
My sister knows a family that was on House Hunters. They, like you said, had already bought a house. The “issue” they were supposed to have with their old home was not enough space, but they had enough space. The producers had them gather all of their children’s toys into one corner of a room in their house to get all the “problem” shots.
I know someone who was a contestant on master chef Junior. They made better food than most of the other kids on the show, but were made to leave on the first episode of that set. (Despite having a full finished product when the one girl burnt the shit out of hers.) After filming she was essentially told by the judges that she did well, she just wasn’t dramatic enough for the show
@@SuperBaxterbear I believe there was compensation involved but I never thought to ask at the time since I was more caught up on the fact that she was outed in the first place
@@Plsrateeight word of mouth from her and her parents, as well as seeing how she has better food in the episode than the person that got to stay. I won’t really be offering more than that so as to maintain her privacy
Gordon is different. They actually had to reign him in at times. XD His mother had to tell him to chill out, because the producers on one of his shows were pulling their hair out with all his cursing. I think he liked to go off script a lot, too. As far as I'm aware, only American producers were brave enough to let him loose on set, where we got to see him in his full glory. 😂
I think the most hilariously ironic part of House Hunters is that sometimes they would see a house on the show that they liked substantially more than the house they already bought but there's nothing they can do about it because they already bought the house
Lately my office has been watching Hell’s Kitchen at lunch and we always look up how the winner is doing now. Almost all of them were not actually offered the head chef job they fought to win and instead are often given a line cook position.
@@johnmartinez7440 Yeah this is a stupid line that people keep repeating. As far as you know 100% of them would have failed without his intervention. you know damn well your implication is that kitchen nightmares is the reason for them closing. But just think for 2 seconds. Just use your brain for once please and realize that these business were all failing in the first place. 500k -- 1m in debt. Reality TV is stupid but this kind of specious statistic is even stupider.
@@johnmartinez7440interestingly about 1/4 of the 72 restaurants on kitchen nightmares are still open. Considering it's been some time since that shows been done that's not that bad.
It’s the same reason shows like Survivor or the Amazing Race can’t be faked (and in my opinion what makes them good). There are no judges or producers making decisions about who goes on.
my ex gf's dad was in the danish version of masterchef, and he said that the countdown doesn't even matter. They have plenty of time to cook and the countdown is just for show.
Fun fact: Shin Lim was INVITED to compete on AGT because they saw him on P&T fool us. They only wanted his “dream act” that he did on fool us, but he refused to initially. Instead, he built them routine after routine that were of similar/higher level to the act, effectively forcing them to keep him on until he gave them what they wanted. He became so popular on the show that it didn’t matter, but that’s showbiz baby
@@Zack-xv2yc I honestly don't care if dead memes are dead or not. I find them funny anyways. I also don't want to be that annoying humorless guy calling out "dead meme" or "Cringe". But whatever :)
Omg I was actually a contestant on that season of Master Chef Junior when I was 11! Crazy that this came up on my recommended page. I don’t think this video is entirely accurate tho, but it’s not the RUclipsr’s fault really as reality TV is pretty secretive in its practices. Most of us genuinely did love cooking, myself included. And I can confirm more than half of us were NOT child actors. The winner of that season was really awkward on camera and only cared about cooking good food, didn’t even want the fame. I'm pretty sure he even started his own bakery after the show. The child actors (like Nate) actually got weeded out really quickly in the first few challenges because the producers realized they weren’t really passionate about cooking. Me and the other top 12 contestants all didn’t really like them because we could tell how unauthentic they were. For the mystery box challenges, we only know 1 day in advance. I think that’s pretty fair given we are literally 8-11 years old. We are not given weeks as this guy would have u believe. So this guy is really exaggerating. But yes, all reality TV is fake in some way or another and that is what makes it fun. In a way, this RUclipsr is doing the same thing, exaggerating for effect to make an exciting video. Just food for thought.
I'm glad you popped up in these comments because I've had a question since the first episode I watched: How much help do the kids get behind the scenes? I know most of them are very talented, but come on! Some of those dishes they served up left me saying, "Yeah, right...there HAS to be some adult help going on."
@@Cautionary_Tale_Harris The day before each challenge, we were given one session with an adult to help us brainstorm ideas for the mystery box. Ultimately though, we were the ones coming up with the dishes and making them. If u watch closely, u can notice a few mistakes here and there. For example, Sarah accidently used cabbage instead of lettuce for the burger challenge. An adult wouldn't have made a mistake like that. For me, I got "voted" off the show by the judges for making some poor choices with one of my dishes. No adult ever stepped in and tried to correct my poor recipe design, even after I told my mentor what I was going to make! So in that sense, it was honestly as close as you can get to kids cooking without the show being a total disaster. As for personal skill, I can tell u that I personally was cooking almost every single day before the show. I would make dinner for my family and even made a little menu that my parents could order from each night. I was very passionate about cooking and thought I would be a chef one day (funny enough, I am a computer scientist now). But my point is, we did infact have a lot of knowledge of cooking :)
i was on the show, and my 5 year contract is just about up so i’m 100% up for saying EVERYTHING but I will say that about 50-75% of the cast is actual chef hopefuls, and it’s not just child actors looking for a blow up
I remember watching a magic TV show when a girl I went to school appeared as a "random customer". She went by a totally different name, but the unique tattoo was obvious. I hit her up on social media and she told me it was for her acting career and rigged. I was stunned as the magician's entire gig was "street magic".
Naked and afraid always made me think that if the cameraman panned too far right we’d realize the contestants were mere meters from a resort or at least a hotel. I mean the crew didn’t sleep outside.
they are usually a few hours away. Like two or three. They drive to a hotel, but I don't know if the contestants go with. bear grills also does this be he actually goes with, also alot of the information is just fake.
naked and afraid the crew have like a tent city/production trailer over somewhere. I remember once one of the contestants snuck into their tents while they were sleeping and stole food
The way I’ve started thinking about it is that it is just a genre like any other, “horror” is just a movie made to be scary but when the cameras turn off nothings happening. So “reality” is just a genre made to look like it’s real, but it’s not.
I’m pretty sure “The Masked Singer” is all scripted, too. They portray it like all the celebrities are actually being chosen based on their singing ability, but in reality, I believe it’s determined who’s being sent home before they even perform. The first couple seasons I didn’t notice this, but in the recent seasons they’ll give an extra clue for the person being sent home that night. Also I think the judges are being fed guesses. Sometimes they’ll all be so sure about who they think someone is and suddenly the next round they’ll drop that guess and “just so happen” to guess the right celebrity- without even giving a reason why they changed their guess. I used to watch it with my mom and my sister, and once I picked up on the patterns, every single time I was able to predict who would be sent home. My mom and sister asked me how I was able to be so accurate and I told them about the patterns between the contestants who get eliminated. Plus, if you think about it, these celebrities are pretty busy so it makes sense if even though they can sing really well, they get eliminated because they have a project they need to get back to. It kinda ruins the whole thing when the people on the show pretend it’s real, but you know it’s not. (EDIT: This is just my own speculation from what I've seen personally on the US version of the show- I'm not saying it's true or false, I'm just giving my take👍)
it's cool you can notice the patterns like that. my gf watches "Bachelor Fan Take" and we watched the bachelorette together this season, and it was constant like "yep that's what bachelor fan take said was gonna happen." people can really crack the code on these formats
Even if fake/staged, Masked Singer is still an interesting show, at least the one in my country (Thailand) where the costumes and the whole production are a bit more inspired (In my opinion, of course).
I used to watch The Masked Singers too and I enjoyed the first season like you did. What made me realized it's fake and rigged is when they reveal and send back singers who obviously perform better. A lot of the times, the more famous celebrities do not sing good at all, but somehow the audience voted them to stay. 🤷
Can totally confirm a lot of these. The clothes, the holding area, the nurse giving shots, also them making up narratives, they legitimately created an entire story of my life something about me being a children’s volunteer and I dressed as a clown to entertain the kids at the place that I volunteered at. Literally none of that was true. I was a early 20 something professional hip hop dancer that had already been on a world tour and a bunch of other smaller ones, dozens of music videos etc. I didn’t even want to go on the show. I was approached because I was already established and professional level. I was a contestant on SYTYCD in one of the early seasons. Made it to Vegas then essentially quit because I was tired of the fake stuff and the rigging. Had an argument with Nigel and got sent home.
I was in the audience of a small Hannah Montana singing show once. This was probably around 2006/7. The crew picked out members of the audience and made them pretend to be the contestants close family/friends. I was one of these people! We got moved to the front of the audience and had to tell made up stories. It was weird
That's how media is done as well, it's all fake. Psyop city, money gain city and more. Nothing in this world is authentic when it comes to this stuff. Nothing. Not even JFK
I can vouch for judge Judy I was on the show a few years back, it is actually real cases on the show (example being my case on ep 71 season 21) it’s just that no one has to pay anything everything is covered by the show, so it’s essentially just Judy making fun of poor people who are actually trying to settle a legal dispute
I remember watching either chopped or masterchef junior in Spanish class and it was the Spanish version and there were best friends. One of them was set to move on to the next round due to her dish and the other wasn’t so lucky, they both started crying and so the judges just allowed the other girl to move on anyways. I thought it was stupid even if they were kids (I was also a kid) memory stuck with me to this day.
I knew it was fake. No kids make comedic puns on a consistent basis. Usually kids are awkwardly quiet until they get to know you; after that they randomly drop a lot of irrelevant information and opinions on your lap. I had family that loved that show and they whole time I was like "OH COME ON!"
i never even considered that master chef (or any other cooking show) is real because for example when they mess something up whike cooking you see an “interview scene” where they say “i hope the chef still likes it blablabla” but i mean when did they record this? while they’re cooking, so they just took them to the side and recorded it? or anytime before the taste test?
People on drag race have revealed how this usually goes. They record their opinions and feelings about how it went After the fact, even if they've already lost. Sometimes the timing isn't always instantaneous for when they record their opinions. Sometimes for shows like this (I remember they did it for the apprentice and vh1 made fun of it) that they recorded everyone leaving (for having lost) even if they didn't lose just so they'd have footage just in case.
These are the type of contracts people sign when they say they are “making a deal with the devil.” You trade your rights, your image, and your privacy for money, fame, and power.
Kandy Muse from this season of RuPaul's Drag Race deliberately wore different earrings during her interviews, so viewers could tell when production was manipulating the footage.
Chevy Chase did something similar in an interview with the Washington Post where he "accidentally" spilled water on his shirt and played it off as a bit.
It seems like most of the more scripted shows are American. Masterchef Australia seems like the most wholesome thing since there is never any drama. British house buying shows don't always end with people buying a new house.
When you compare Gordon Ramsey's American shows to his British shows, there is an obvious difference (i.e. The lack of drama and music/sound effects). Same goes for Say Yes to the Dress Ireland compared to America
@Sonic “aUsTrAiLiA CenSoRs EvEn InNoCEnt vIDeO gAmES” like wot exactly. Anything we’ve censored is usually for a game which couldn’t be considered “innocent.”
Yeah, I’m pretty certain Masterchef Australia is real just because of how prevalent Po and Adam are now compared to the actual winners; these people were actually cooks and still are.
Would have been interesting to see you talk about Nathan For You which is a great examination of the reality show genre. In particular his episode “The Hunk” which is about him setting up a fake Bachelor style show. Although no one is fed lines, you can tell everyone is acting how they should in the show rather than how they do in real life.
Surprised “the masked singer” didn’t show up here. Ken jeong has done interviews where he says “I play the character who has to make the most outrageous guesses” the judges know who the masked singer is. Also, it’s just a dumb show
It was hilarious when Ken was on the UK version, he kept guessing A- list celebs like David Beckham or Kate Winslet, when the masked singers were basically Z-list ex soap opera nobodies 😆
I've "watched" the show when my roommate had it on and I was cooking, and it irritated me how obviously staged/fake the guesses were. It was also obvious to me the judges or show/network/producers are most likely paid by (D-list) celebrities to name-drop them as (terrible) guesses. Like paid product placement, I guess. But I'm sure the general public doesn't give a damn, otherwise reality TV wouldn't be popular. It's mindless fun or drama to pass the time. As for the people (over the age of 17) who still believe this shit is "real", not contrived... I don't know what to say.
It is a really dumb show with no stakes. Who cares who us under the mask. I tried one episode and I didn't care who was singing. The judges guessing try to make it more exciting than it is.
My cousin was on masterchef junior and she actually did a lot of cooking and baking before she came on the show. She was eliminated the first episode though. After that she thought about pursuing acting and/or cooking but ended up moving on to other hobbies.
Just here to remind people, the on-set “therapists” aren’t legally allowed to call themselves such due to restrictions put upon them by the APA. The second they accept that job they are no longer a therapist and never can be again. The APA enacted these restrictions due to “therapists” being used to commit war crimes, turns out those same techniques are used in reality TV and are therefore covered by the same restrictions.
Regular Masterchef is also a complete scam. They always pick the chef at the end with the best personality and face that will sell the most cookbooks. Just look up Faruq Jenkins from season 1, the show said he was bartender but his IMDB page says he has been an actor since 1998. And he lasted multiple rounds.
I noticed that the tag at the end of an episode said that producers were allowed to weigh in on judges' rulings on Masterchef. That's how l knew the one with the big sob story would win, because it made for a better narrative. And sure enough, she did.
@@TheDanishGuyReviews Also the thing about sob stories. Whenever a contestant on a talent show like AGT or American Idol is introduced, if they have a sob story then you already know they are most likely going to be accepted into the competition.
I can’t remember which actress it was, but there was this actress that was on chopped on food network and won. Then just a few years later, she just shows up on worst cooks in America.
My Highschool teacher was Kelsey Poe who is considered “one of the bachelors biggest villains”. I swear she was the sweetest kindest girl, so genuine. But the way the edited, re arranged her words out of context or forced her to say and do things just so they could paint her as the villain was terrible. Her backlash afterwords by people was so severe she had to quit her job as our teacher and move to Paris out of the country to start fresh. Fucking disgraceful how they did that to her, I remember she told me and a few other students she got accepted on the show and was so excited only to have them force her into a narrative just so they could demean her for views.
It's all about drama and conflict. I loved Amazing Race but even I wondered about how much drama was going on. Later interviews from contestants revealed how much editing took place. The supposed teams who hated each other revealed that they got along well off camera. It was a competition. Rivals during the race. Civil off camera.
Just like they did that black beauty pageant girl they made her look crazy listen edit out the girls saying some mean stuff about her , I gave her credit for today I would’ve been left my forget this
I heard they do the same for doctor Phil of all shows Imagine signing up for therapy, and you get rejected because your trauma isn't interesting enough lol

Someone from my hometown was on Masterchef a few years ago. They set him as the clear winner at the beginner but then he slowly took a turn for the worst toward the top 5. He still was second runner up, but what was shitty was that he is HIGHLY allergic to shellfish and they made him cook it not only once but 2 or 3 times, and he didn’t want to drop out so he would cook it with gloves and then in between takes, he would have to go off to the side and have the medics give him epi-pen injections to open his throat back up so he could continue cooking the shellfish… Jesus. I was on a reality show when I was a kid as well and I was shocked at how everything was filmed and planned and the dialogue that’s supposed to sound natural. And how they said they weren’t going to re-film anything or do any second takes but they would if it wasn’t to their standard.
As a wise man once said “documentaries are like movies with ugly people” -Abed Nadir We should have known it was all fake when everyone on these shows was a ten
As someone who doesn’t actually watch the show I think I prefer it being fake. No actual greats are being crushed, the contestants are actually getting something out of it and it makes me feel not as bad about putting 8 year olds against 13 year olds. That’s just not fair on average upper body strength and brain development. Edit: I meant to say hearts not greats but greats also applies When I say I’m fine with it being fake I’m referring solely to this version of MasterChef Junior. Other shows I take on a case by case basis.
My parents love the Bachelor/Bachelorette but are fairly socially conservative. They use the fact that it's fake/scripted to justify it not being morally wrong or hedonistic.
the Australia one make a category of age first, so the best of each category were the one that competed. idk its fake or not but i really like watching it bcs its just so wholesome, no drama or kids being obnoxious
Survivor seems real. Loads of contestants talk about their time on the show. I know it's edited to emphasise certain people and stories, but you can't accurately put 3 days into 40 minutes.
Mostly yes, but there was an article in a local paper just today (what a coincedence lol) that due to the challenges being hard to understand the producers take up to an hour to explain it to the contestents where they can ask specific questions about them. They are also tested by the "dreamteam" before hand to make sure the concepts work. Also there is a medical check for each contestant before and after each challenge. Other than that seems real enough, atleast the people seem real with their motives and aspirations, unlike masterchef US where almost everyone is portrayed to have malicious intentions
I was at Master Chef Junior live to watch the finalists on stage. For the most part, the kids are who they say they are. I can personally attest to their cooking abilities. That said, they are bound to a routine and preplanned events and queues.
I cant believe anyone coulda thought storage wars was real. It was the most obvious fake show ever. Whats in that storage unit? Shitty chair, shitty table, wet cardboard boxes....omg omg omg a picasso painting and a roman artefact no wayyyyy!!!! And the way they just trew numbers on the value of things was the funniest thing ever
I was a 'child actor' on house hunters international and its crazy the lengths they go. the houses we looked at weren't even on the market and we'd already moved a year ago but they flew us back to Australia just to pretend we hadn't moved. the real estate agent was just some random woman and they decided to make us go fishing at a popular surf beach while people were surfing. crazy stuff.
When I was younger (so like 7 years ago) my parents were actually asked to show their house on house hunters as a “potential house”. My parents didn’t accept because in the agreement it said they would be allowed to make any commentary on our house and apparently if anything was broken by crew or such then the show wouldn’t pay for it..
With the Masterchef kid, I'm pretty sure the reason they brought him in was because they wanted to show that they would eliminate a kid just as brutally as they would an adult. He was one of the first eliminations of the first episode. That isn't to disagree with your general premise. Just that in that one case, it kinda made sense. They aren't going to destroy a real kid as much as they did him (IIRC, they were pretty brutal on him -- far moreso than the "normal" kids). I just think they wanted to put to bed the idea that they were going to take it easy on kids (which they do anyway, eliminating them in pairs) Basically, as long as they don't screw with the actual competition (and, talking to some people in these types of competitions, that shit is taken VERY seriously), they can do whatever they want.
when nothing else works...bring in child or "family friendly". or preach about how much u care about the other to sell your product. or content creators pretending to care about the community...a lot of times things are opposite as they seem. every story has 2 ends
Yeah maybe once the reduce the competition by half you’ll know they have talent just like how in Masterchef those that are at least in the top 5 would continue to do food related ventures the rest has like no news about them. The one in America’s next talent though everyone has talent the problem is they are rigging the competition. Which is pretty shitty
@@pinao9928 The Ramsay shows are a little weird in that it always feels like he "picks a couple of horses" at the beginning of the show, and you pretty much know that one of those will be the winner (since he doesn't really follow any real "rules" to his picks... think about how many times on Hells Kitchen he's chosen someone to go home from the winning team), but there are "rules" and there are actual rules. He'd get in serious trouble if he were to "hire an actor to win the show". But outside of that, he's undoubtedly fine to stick by whatever loose "rules" he has for picking who goes home. For Top Chef, however, they have clearly-defined rules in place. Which is why we often see people go home that for sure we thought would win the whole thing (or at least go really far)
@@jimbobjones9330 yea thats my thoughts pretty much after watching hells kitchen and i still think its very entertaining. idk about top chef tho. thanks for answering.
I work on reality TV, from my experience there's usually effort put in to be accurate to what really happened, but if we didn't take liberty with the actual reality, the shows would be boring as fuck. Or awkward, tbh we've spent more time making people look way better than they were IRL because what they did or said wasn't considered acceptable for the show or audience.
1:28 fun fact: this kid from my high when on American idol and made it to the top 3 so the show (yes American idol) came to me school and let’s just say it was fake 😅 like the show kept telling the crowd to be louder and more excited and we had to do many retakes lol!
Judge Judy is an interesting example because while it's true that she is simply an arbiter and the show pays for the settlements, the cases are genuine legal disputes and, most importantly, her decisions are legally binding just as they would be in a genuine arbitration scenario. It's also worth noting that she spent a number of years as an actual family court judge in New York City so she's not simply an actor.
@@revimfadli4666 I feel like it's not that the show is fake, but most of the theatrics are constructed solely for TV. There ain't no way some law court thing could actually be entertaining. They definitely hand-picked select footages with the most action and drama, and Judge Judy's persona is most definitely acted on purpose for TV. But again, like the comment said, the cases are actual legal disputes, and the decisions are legally binding all the same.
A lot of shows take this stuff very seriously, even though they do the same shenanigans for the "drama" portions. I took a BBQ class from one of the guys who participated on one of those shows (on Food Network maybe? It's been a few years), and he said that while carrying the BBQ boxes from the table to the judging areas, one of the assistants dropped one of the food boxes (it was closed... the food was fine). Since part of the judging was based on presentation, they then spent 3 or so HOURS discussing how to handle the situation to keep it fair. I don't remember what they decided, but in cases where the actual contest portion is involved, things that they explicitly judge on are taken very seriously. In "Medium Raw", Anthony Bourdain (RIP) was talking about Top Chef (he hadn't been on the show for several years at that point, so didn't have a reason to lie), and said the contest portion was taken VERY seriously... with them sitting at the judging table for 8-10 hours sometimes nitpicking every detail while trying to determine the winner and especially the loser. It's why the show is taken far more seriously than Hell's Kitchen
When i was in middle school i love to watch Got Talent, had someone i liked and is doing really well, on the semi finals, one of my classmate came up and tells me that someone else will win and he's willing to bet for it. I was like no way, the dude i like is extremely popular and way skilled than the one he picked, i accepted the bet. My classmate won the bet of course and proceed to tell me, sorry and that his family member works on the show and it was rigged. That was a really rude awakening lol.
Rupauls drag race started having their contestants wear the same thing for every confessional as well I think after the fourth season because people were able to show how the contestants clothes would change from sentence to sentence and one of the contestants spoke out a bit about how much they cut edited and moved her confessionals around. Knowing that I just don’t trust that any of the confessionals they show are really matching up to what’s going on in the show. There’s even been a few times where they accidentally used the same confessional clip as a reaction to something happening in two different episodes. And the Finales are fun too cause they film them live in front of an audience, and the finale is meant to announce who the winner of the season is, but since they don’t air the finale live they have to keep it a secret who wins from the entire live audience until it actually airs so what they do is film ALL of the top two-three contestants (depending on the season) winning and being crowned by Rupaul and they film the audience’s reactions to all of them and everyone is just acting, the contestants and the audience are all pretending each one won one at a time. Like it will cut to the contestants family and friends in the crowd cheering and hugging and crying and you know they’re just acting because they don’t know who actually won yet they were just told to act how they would if that person did win. And then when the finale airs on TV they only play the shots of crowning the contestant that actually won. Usually the top two or three queens will meet up when the finale airs on tv and have like a live reaction to it and the winner will get an actual crown and stuff at whatever club or venue theyre at for the finale viewing party. Basically the contestants find out who wins the season the exact same time as the audience at home. The whole crowning and emotional moment in the finales is fake and acted it’s one thing I kinda hate about that show
Filming everyone winning is my biggest pet peeve. 🙄 I didn’t find out they were doing that until like season 11 and it just made me think about how fake it kinda is. I guess in reality there is a chance you could win so the reaction is real? I dunno. I just wouldn’t want t to be in the audience for that. Like, I wanna go home. Not cheer three times for three different winners. 🤣🤣
@@fableSimmer to be fair, cutting a episode needs some time, its better to not have the live audience know who the Winner is, til it airs, since it could be posted online, before the Episode even is on Tv. It could riun the ENtire finale of a show, should just one tweet or vidio get out.
@@darkblossum4379 True. They’d have to do it live or just not so the big finale like seasons 1-3. I honestly never watch the finale anyway. 🤣 Too long for me.
I've heard that people will change their hair styles in those interviews since they make them wear the same clothes so they can't cut the scenes to look like they were saying something they weren't. Pretty smart move in my opinion.
Really??? So the "victims" already know who the catfish is before contacting MTV? I always thought they at least helped them find the catfish off camera and then had the people recreate their reactions for the show.
I heard it's usually the catfishers who contact the show not the catfished, and the producers know how the situation is gonna pan out beforehand (for safety reasons ig, they're walking into stranger's houses lol) but not the hosts or the the person being catfished so the reactions are genuine. It's funny how you mention Househunters. That exact format of the show is nearly identical to a British one called Escape to the Country, where a pair of people go to examine houses in rural counties. The only difference is that, while they usually pick a house at the end of the hour, they don't always purchase that house and the voiceover at the end may mention they are still looking. So clearly, it's possible to make a compelling show without having a house purchased at the end.
Yeah I can't watch American versions of UK reality shows because they're so obviously fake like.. what's the point. It's like watching a boring, badly acted work of fiction instead of just some casual, maybe-slightly-boring-but-realistic reality TV show.

@@BigFatCock0 Yeah which is why they changed the format for Kitchen NIghtmares to 24 hour thing. So that way he doesn't need to work as much. My sister in law was on a show like house hunters... they filmed at me and my wife’s house in our guest bathroom to make it seem like they were having to share a cramped bathroom and needed more space... and they moved all furniture out of the house they already lived in to act like that was the one they decided to buy
For house hunters, they could literally rework it so that they phrase it as the couples already having picked a house, but them going over them and explaining what their thoughts were, and revealing what their pick is at the end. People would still have the "which will they choose" incentive without having to lie.

I'm glad you popped up in these comments because I've had a question since the first episode I watched:
How much help do the kids get behind the scenes?

@@desireesmith862 I think some aspects are real, but it's HEAVILY scripted.

Hm, agreed honestly. I mostly just watch that show for the costumes. They're all both fascinating but a little weird

That's so awful
That's heinous. These media types are honestly heartless monsters at least half of the time.
It's all about drama and conflict. I loved Amazing Race but even I wondered about how much drama was going on. Later interviews from contestants revealed how much editing took place. The supposed teams who hated each other revealed that they got along well off camera. It was a competition. Rivals during the race. Civil off camera.

As someone who doesn’t actually watch the show I think I prefer it being fake. That’s just not fair on average upper body strength and brain development.

When I say I’m fine with it being fake I’m referring solely to this version of MasterChef Junior. Other shows I take on a case by case basis.
My parents love the Bachelor/Bachelorette but are fairly socially conservative. They use the fact that it's fake/scripted to justify it not being morally wrong or hedonistic.
The singing and talent show contestants are being fed a false hope. That's really the only thing I have a problem wife.

Everyone post some semi real reality shows😭 my actual reality is breaking before my eyes
I love survivor
Mostly yes, but there was an article in a local paper just today (what a coincedence lol) that due to the challenges being hard to understand the producers take up to an hour to explain it to the contestents where they can ask specific questions about them. They are also tested by the "dreamteam" before hand to make sure the concepts work. Also there is a medical check for each contestant before and after each challenge. Other than that seems real enough, atleast the people seem real with their motives and aspirations, unlike masterchef US where almost everyone is portrayed to have malicious intentions
Survivor, Amazing Race and Big Brother are the only ones I trust... maybe MTV’s The Challenge too

I was a 'child actor' on house hunters international and its crazy the lengths they go. the houses we looked at weren't even on the market and we'd already moved a year ago but they flew us back to Australia just to pretend we hadn't moved. the real estate agent was just some random woman and they decided to make us go fishing at a popular surf beach while people were surfing. crazy stuff.
i always thought they were wearing the same clothes in their interviews because they did them all in one day
"She should be called Arbiter Judy and have a bitchin' energy sword" incredible
And then sit in a corner while you do all the work.
Wait what? HH wouldn't pay if the crew broke stuff? Were they going to pay your parents for letting them use the house in the show?
I was on a food network show. Yeah I was definitely shocked when I realized how much producers push false narratives.
I just think they wanted to put to bed the idea that they were going to take it easy on kids (which they do anyway, eliminating them in pairs)
Basically, as long as they don't screw with the actual competition (and, talking to some people in these types of competitions, that shit is taken VERY seriously), they can do whatever they want.
when nothing else works...bring in child or "family friendly". or preach about how much u care about the other to sell your product. or content creators pretending to care about the community...a lot of times things are opposite as they seem. every story has 2 ends
Oh ok, i always had the idea that gordon ramsay wouldnt be ok with screwing up the competitions

The whole crowning and emotional moment in the finales is fake and acted it’s one thing I kinda hate about that show
wow, that's fascinating.

On MTV’s Catfish, you and the “catfish” have to audition for the show. When I found that out, it ruined it for me completely
Never heard anything about auditions, I'd imagine there are background checks etc. It's entertaining anyway so 🤷♀️
I live in Waco and Fixer Upper the people already have the house bought and they “show” two other houses for the show.
