A few tidbits for ya- 1- that whole scene with her coming out the pool in the red bikini and taking her top off, and the kid getting caught in the bathroom was a reenactment of a famous scene from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Video stores across the country reported that their tapes were worn down at the moment she opened her top, bc they were paused so many times. 2- There is a store in Wayne, NJ called Fountains of Wayne. It sells fountains and lawn stuff and Christmas stuff in the winter. I grew up near there. The band took their name from the store. 3- The bassist, Adam Schlesinger, died from COVID complications.
It wasn't the singer; it was Adam Schlesinger who died last year. He played bass and wrote FoW's songs, an absolute genius when it came to writing pop music.
There are several connections with The Cars . In the beginning there is a kid that looks like Ric Ocasek (lead singer) , next the I heart Ric license plate and during pool scene in movie The Cars - Moving In Stereo is played
I feel like Brad knows exactly the story of this song, like most guys do. Lex enjoys it but I don't think she really really got what was going on with Stacy's mom :P That ending when Brad's eyes got all big... I don't think Lex caught that hahaha.
The producers needed a time machine, this song was released 4 years after American Pie. Ironically, a film titled Stacy’s Mom came out about four friends who had a thing for Stacy’s mom. Unfortunately the movie wasn’t very good + they didn’t have the budget to license the song.

For about 20 seconds there after the video, Lex was talking but you could tell Brad was revisiting his middle school dream, and was like.... huh, what, huh?
The scene where the mom comes out of the pool and the boy getting caught in the bathroom was taken from the famous scene in the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
4:55 her: *laughing disbelievingly* "can you imagine?? being a little kid and one of your friends' parents are that lit in your mind? its like, WHAT?" him: *dead serious* "yes."
I love how through the whole thing and even at the end, Stacy is flattered thinking he is crushing on her but really it's her mom. No, Stacy's mom was not like that in real life, it was just a prepubescent boy's fantasy. They borrowed classic scenes from Fast Times at Ridgemont High and the "Hot for Teacher" music video by Van Halen. If you like fun songs like this you should check out Bowling for Soup's "1985" and "The Girl all the Bad Guys Want".
WRONG - The boys at the bus stop are a tribute to the 80's punk group The Cars. That's why the license plates say "I ❤Ric" it's for Ric Ocasek the late lead singer of The Cars. The boy is wearing the same moussed up hair black shades as Ric used to wear. The scene in the Stacy's bedroom with the band in picture frames is also a tribute to The Cars video. The girl has a Van Halen t shirt on but that's the only reference to VH in this video.
@@Swordsfor200Alex When she dances on the counter top like a stripper, it is very reminiscent of Too Hot For Teacher's music video. It is possible that since we are both talking about two very different scenes in the video that we are both right.
@@JMulvy - That is a young boys fantasy with her pole dancing in the kitchen. "Hot for Teacher" didn't have any pole dancing just hot teachers parading up and down the runway. Zero strippers on poles. Other than that I would reference Adam Schlesinger's interview about the video when he said it was a tribute to The Cars "Just What I Needed" and Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl".
I’m so pleased no one is offended here, but laughing at the hormone explosions of growing up, looking around age appropriate friends…fixating on “older” women. It’s okay, and Lex knows it.

Don´t know about that, but Brad was for sure remembering about his Little boy crush on a fine mom. We as boys for sure did have one, or most of us did.
This is a super catchy song. I've been trying to get the other guys in my band to do a cover of it for a few years. On a side, I saw Rachel Hunter (the mom in the video and former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model) many years ago at a local mall and this video does not do her justice. I was about 10 feet away from her and in person, she is unbelievably gorgeous (no wonder Rod Stewart married her!)

Fountains of Wayne was named literally after a retail store called Fountain's of Wayne located in Wayne NJ. I drove past it everyday on my way home from the city. Right where you got off Rt46 onto Rt80. And yes they sold fountains.
Stacy's mom was married to Rod Stewart for quite a few years (like 15+) and they have two kids together. She's was a Sports Illustrated model named Rachel Hunter.
So damn catchey and clever lyrics and, is it on a playlist of mine? NEVER. but it still makes me smile and giggle and jam around for a minute when I hear it.
